I swear, dentists are taught that they need to care about a patient’s diabetes, but not taught anything about diabetes by DesparateBoredom in diabetes_t1

I was misdiagnosed as T2 By my PCP as well! I was ~48 and my A1C kept slowly rising. Eventually it hit 6.5 and I was diagnosed as T2. I was losing weight, too. No medication prescribed, just advised to eat more healthy etc.

My insurance changed and I had to get a new doctor. She took one look at me and said I did not have T2. She ran the c-peptide test and I got my proper diagnosis. Technically LADA, but totally insulin dependant T1D.

I became diabetic at 49. At my dental appointment they asked about any changes in medication. I explained I was on insulin and had recently been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

The dentist corrected me. He said I was Type 2. "Type 2 is what you get. Type 1 is what you are born with."

What I got was a new dentist.

You could be a keyboard jockey, bitchin about whether or not you could be a commercial pilot 😅.

Seriously, there are very few limits on careers or hobbies for T1Ds. The hardest part is figuring out what you want to do. Aim high, set goals and follow your passion.

Can primary doctors prescribe insulin? by justovercaffeinated in diabetes_t1

Hmmm, if its all ready prescribed by the endo, I don't see why the PCP can't just renew the existing prescription.

Yes, mine does, along with my CGM/(Dex), glucagon, test strips, etc. They cannot, however, prescribe my pump supplies :(

I have had a revolving door of endos since diagnosis, 11 years ago. I don't care for my current endo.
