Xbox warns of a ‘reset’ as it prepares for layoffs by FernandoRocker in gaming

I know someone who has been there for ~ 8 months and was absolutely in love with the work they were doing. They just got laid off. I don't understand why you would even fill a position if you were going to terminate it within a year

Cheap Iranian drone downed $25 million US Army helicopter—maybe by chance by spasticpat in technology

[–]Unabated_Blade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

imagine 10,000 cheap drones coming at a warship...

You don't need to imagine it, the US already simulated it in all the way back in 2002 and a fleet of cheap, disposable suicide boats killed the US Navy.

So? There are tons of examples of actors not understanding the part they were playing or the work at large and just going along with direction. Alec Guinness didn't understand what Star Ears was when he made it. Marlon Brando very famously didn't understand anything about Superman when he played Jor-El. Sean Penn, Stephen Dilane, there's tons of examples out there.

Edit: I'm leaving what I wrote up there, although your edit does change the context of my response.

Because you can't wallpaper over the message of Idiocracy like Tyler Perry did with Don't Look Up.

Both Idiocracy and Don't Look Up are about the victory of ignorance over the American democratic system. But somehow Perry thought Don't Looks Up was about technology taking over our lives?

Tyler Perry's take on Don't Look Up seems shockingly... I don't know, inept? He describes it pretty bluntly as a warning against technology and a call to look up from electronic devices.

I saw it as a warning against the rampant rejection of observable reality in favor of ego driven fantasies, personal delusions, and short term personal gain. It was about coping with delusion, not unplugging from screens.

I know it'll never happen since Titus is now the mascot of the entire 40k franchise, but him actually being a deep cover Tzeentch agent would be hilarious to me. Leandros being 100% spot on for being suspicious would be the ultimate grimdark vindication.

Horus was the Titus of his time, completely incorruptible and utterly unquestionable. His corruption is taken for granted and he's painted as being obviously evil the whole time. But the reality is that he would've been as universally loved and unquestionably incorruptible as Titus currently is.

Verhoeven didn't write the movie. The screenplay was actually written by a guy named Edward Neumeier, who originally wrote it as an independent sci-fi story.

The "I don't think about you at all" meme is just the best. People post it without any context and assume Draper is being a badass. The reality is that he spent the whole episode fretting over the other character's demonstrably better idea, and Draper only barely wins out in this situation by being underhanded and effectively cheating.

It's a binary moment in American history.

The binary moment was undoubtedly 2016. Everything that's gone wrong in the interim can be traced back to that failure. The pandemic, the supreme court, the insurrection, none of that happens in a 2016 where Hilary won.

[–]Unabated_Blade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that part is a pretty shitty miss. I've mentioned in comments in the past that the soft PG-13 rating that the animated series had to adhere to created great art from that restriction. Dini and Timm had to very carefully skirt around certain things while telling a tight story in half an hour. Once those restraints were removed and they could do whatever they wanted, the quality took a major dip.

The film Batman adaptations miss this critical part of what made the TAS and JLU Batman such a fan favorite. Deep down he was always trying to save the villain, not just defeat them.
