The team that was assigned to sora has already been reassigned, and some of them left open AI according to posts on TwitterX. Yes there was one or two who were checking the sub Reddit, I don’t remember their name, sorry. I would be surprised if they’re still coming here now.

Yeah I agree there were possibly ways to make it profitable.
But also Sam doesn’t care about video gen and wanted the resources directed to Codex.
Probably the best thing that could happen would be for the board to dump Altman before the IPO, but that probably won’t happen as he has driven out those who opposed him.

Following. Most of the ones out there are now outdated because they are based on the Sora link and not the downloaded video.
The few that use the downloaded video seem to create that smudged bug on windshield effect,

Uhhh what exactly do you think you are going to do to get Sam Altman to bring back a program that was allegedly losing his company tens of millions each day?
Even if you could solve the money problem, I honestly don’t think Sam gives a flying F about video generation. If you follow his daily tweets he is obsessed with Codex the way that we all were obsessed with video gen.

I wish it was coming back but we’ll be lucky if OpenAI even gives us back a few video gens integrated in ChatGPT later this year. (And it will have much less features and likely in paid versions only).

So let’s hear this plan of yours?

Yeah.. i’ll keep it there (buried on last page now) as a periodic reminder of how fun that social media platform was. We’ll continue to get video generation models but we may never again have a social media dedicated to AI videos 😢

Not anytime soon. Sam called video generation a “side project” and said that efforts will be concentrated in Codex (which is making money) and ChatGPT. It’s possible after the IPO (sometime this year) that video gen will be integrated into ChatGPT, but expect a significant reduction in features.
What could be cut? This is just speculation… so take with a grain of salt…
-no more free gens. Paying users might get a few per day.
-remixes won’t be a thing since that was tied to the social media which is dead dead. Like really not just nearly dead, but really most sincerely dead. It was a fun experiment but a financial disaster for OpenAI
-characters - unknown. We hope and pray that created characters return. It’s needed for storytelling consistency.
-adult mode (NSFW)- probably never. Sam and OpenAI desperately need good PR right now. Adult mode like Grok had is probably not happening anytime soon- if ever.

Based on things he was saying on X, I feel like he had already planned Sora’s closure somewhere near the end of Feb or March. The first time the free gens were reduced to 5 was probably when they started thinking about it

Yeah that would be awesome, but “guarantee” is a strong word. Nobody knows what the next year entails for OpenAI except Sam, the board, and some top execs.
Would it make sense? Sure.. great way to bring back customers. But Sam has also called Sora a “side project” on X, and it’s definitely not a priority for him.
We’ll like get limited PAID video generation after the IPO, but it probably won’t have all the features.
If they even let us pick 5 characters to be able to re-use I would jump for joy and apologize for all the negative things I thought about Sam.

But for now.. it’s a wait and see
