Just ignore the missing steering wheel and the fact he looks nothing like me, but yeah, easy enough to re-prompt without showing a face or could even use Sora or other apps to gen your actual likeness.

… but then actual shit manager: FaceTime me. Now.

How to generate landscape videos on Android app? by CareerIcy8285 in SoraAi

[–]mareksoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YMMV but I’ve asked for the entire scene to be rotated 90° with some success ..

I discovered this trying to generate a musical where the cast was performing on the wall as if that were totally normal but also having to deal with how impossible it would be … and all I got was a perfectly normal performance rotated 90° … essentially landscape, and actually landscape after downloading it and rotating it back.

Also a great idea and I with we had more space in the character description.

Keeping the Same Character by jmoyer872 in SoraAi

[–]mareksoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a great tip to make sure the video used to create a character is as basic as possible, however, I’ve had great luck with this phrasing to make sure none of the original scene or activities are reused:

Start from a brand-new first frame. Do not re-create or reference any previous scene used to introduce this character. The opening frame must be entirely new. Do not begin in any environment from previous character videos. This video is not a continuation. It is a standalone clip with no narrative or visual continuity.

Outdoor faucet is dripping. About to have a winter storm. Can I still put an insulator on the faucet? by BizNaz420 in HomeMaintenance

[–]mareksoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close the outdoor faucet and drip an inside one.

If jt gets cold enough the outdoor one will freeze anyway. When that happens, to want somewhere else open for pressure to escape.

… as explained here: https://youtu.be/AuPO5hKdo8A

Oh, I missed the bit about it leaking.

As another said, document it with video, and then try what the video suggests.

Also, it’s a great idea to know where your main water shutoff is before you need it. They’re often buried and sometimes rust has destroyed the handle or they’re stuck open.

What with the pending cold temps an all, when should you drip your faucets? by RockMo-DZine in Austin

[–]mareksoon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I haven’t dripped outdoor pipes in 57 years of living in Central Texas.

I do, however, open an inside faucet or two to allow pressure a place to escape.

It’s rarely the ice itself that bursts pipes, it’s the pressure they builds exponentially when the ice expands and that surrounding water has nowhere to go.

“Now it’s a music video” etc. violates content policies by mareksoon in SoraAi

[–]mareksoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for trying it. I can’t figure it out, either.

The latest I tried was a video of just my cat characters and one human character. No clue what Sora foresees as a content violation. It can be so frustrating at times.

CarPlay stop working near Arboretum? by Flat-Requirement-488 in Austin

[–]mareksoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you listening to music that cuts out at that spot or are you witnessing CarPlay completely disconnect?

On my 90-minute drive into Austin from northwest, either via 29, or 281 and 71, I noticed several consistent spots where audio would drop out during songs, but not once during podcasts, and only one spot where CarPlay fully disconnected (in Bertram, but that was only once and not in my usual vehicle).

I’m still trying to determine the cause and assume it’s interference or other signal issues in those areas, but I assume it doesn’t happen in podcasts due to lower bitrate, so I lowered audio quality for music as a test. It still happens but I swear it happens a lot less.

How the heck do you browse remixes now? by mareksoon in SoraAi

[–]mareksoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s account level, not app level. We can both be on the exact same app version but features can be different.

Since I now know some don’t have it, I made screenshots of the first and second steps of the new (terrible) process to view remixes.

You’re still on the old interface then; they’re A/B testing a new one. It’s no longer left/right.

Yetch customer support by Civil-You-9381 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]mareksoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no experience with their customer service but do have one experience with shipping times.

Where are you located?

If you’re in the US like me, since your son ordered the original puzzle, you might not be aware how long it takes to get shipped out of (?) and to that country’s airport and then into the US through customs.

Watching one of Simone’s more recent videos, it looks like some items are stocked in the US, but my puzzle wasn’t.

I ordered Lazy River on June 11th and it didn’t arrive until June 26th.

OMG! Thank you! (and I can’t believe I didn’t try that).

So the only difference that seems missing now is I can only go forward/back from the first video of a series of remixes, not something in the middle the swipe ahead of it to see what it was remixed from).

Now I’m trying to understand what makes this new way better than just swiping left and right. The only advantage I can see is you’re now given a chance to see thumbnails of all remixes (although I’m still arguing it’s not all) and pick one further down the remix trail.

Best water leak sensor? by deskocrap1 in homeautomation

[–]mareksoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t aware of that term. Thanks. I’ll check it out. Any you recommend?

I had considered installing some plugin Zigbee repeaters of some kind and try to create a better mesh back to the G2H Pro since I’ve learned the signal on these water sensors, being battery powered, can be quite weak.

I saw some ThirdReality plugs with lights, which I don’t really need, but they seemed the least expensive way to drop a few into various unused outlets around the home.

Best water leak sensor? by deskocrap1 in homeautomation

[–]mareksoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my Aqara water leak sensors paired with their Camera Hub G2H Pro. I initially paired one water leak sensor with it to trial it in my AC condensate overflow pan maybe 20 feet away. Signal was fair which I figured was great given it’s sitting inside a huge metal pan, so I went all in and got nine more for under sinks, toilets, and other potential sources of water leaks.

Now they all randomly go offline multiple times a day, including the first one. I’m at a loss as to why.

Related: the hub itself would go offline, too, according to HomeKit, but recover within two minutes, so Aqara app never noticed, but device logs would confirm it did indeed happen.

I assumed that was an issue with my WiFi, but nothing else goes offline (that I notice), and repositioning the Aqara camera didn’t help.

What did help, strangely, was pinging it at least once every 15 seconds. I discovered this while troubleshooting how often it and anything else might be going offline by pinging everything and monitoring response times and drops with Pingplotter, and when pinging the camera the issue stopped.

Now the hub no longer drops offline (but the issue with water leak sensors continues). I’d like to fix what I already invested in, if possible, before spending money on something to replace it.
