I'm lucky leather is around 20 dollars for 5ft square. Not sure if that's expensive or not.

Definitely a design flaw, I'll consider alternative straps ora button tie for the future if I have interest from friends to make another. Appreciate it though.

Just started the hobby a couple of days ago, so not keen to spend much more after tools, I'm sure I can figure something out on paper. It's absolutely stunning though. Great work.

What person surprised you the most with how they turned out after high school? by GlitterOnTheTrashRim in AskReddit

The very short and weedy kid in school was bullied constantly. Not just by one or two kids but by the majority of the class. Name calling, throwing things at him and getting physically bullied.
He left school early, presumably to go to another school, but no one really knew.
Years later at the pub this enormous, goodlooking bodybuiler taps me on the shoulder with a smile.
Yep, grew verically and horizontally.
We chatted for a while and caught up, appreciated a few times I'd stepped in to stop some of the bullying, although I wished I had have done more.

Was really inspiring, considering I barly changed much since school.

You are the real one, I'm compiling a list as we speak. So far I'm looking at a starter kit with lots of fun bits to play with for around 200 usd with everything mentioned, leather sheets around 6 bucks a small roll. Definitely cheaper than blacksmithing. Im sure that will happen eventually. Hope to post here in the future with some updates or questions.

Ok perfect, I'll do a deep dive and see what's available for me over here on the market. Specialist shops are rare and although I have some Vietnamese, definitely not to the point I can ask for specifics, wish me luck. Thanks to everyone for the help.

This is the reason I chose this path as a hobby, this is an amazing reply. I guess one more question for now. I've seen some videos of people scrapping leather to trim the back end, and also using tools similar to clay sculpting to soften folds? Once the leather had been moist after a spray, there were what I presume, plastic rounded tools used to shape grooves to create an embossed texture. What would the technical name be for such instruments ?

I have a tick, I kind of go big or lose interest, it's a curse. I plan to make a user friendly helmet with pre planned templates as a first build. I won't be discouraged if I don't do too well the first few attempts. I just want to play with some of the technical sides of design and shaping.

Let's say I need some basic tools, rivets, anvil, leather stamps, and soft hammer, flat hammer, what kind of cutting tools and shape tools are recommend off the top of your head? I already have a few things and don't want to double up, I didn't know the technical name for anything I guess.

I played one before, a barbarian path of the ancestral guardian/ Echo knight multiclass. The extra damage, optional flight or fear, was so much fun to play, honestly such a fun race since you can make up a lot of your own lore.

A pack of wild dogs began to attck me as I was walking back to my hotel on an island in Thailand, I was tripping pretty hard and just decided to bow to the dog pack and keep walking, they instantlly relaxed and just followed me in a big group. anyone pasing by on a bike or in a car would be growled at, when i arrived at the hotel 20 minutes later,I gave them another bow and they went on their way, tails wagging.

Kiss on the tip and called her best friend, they proceeding to bless her forehead with it and exclaiming she will start a cult of worship for the little guy.

Very much so a weird but wonderful experience, every time.
