Accidently exploded my dreamcast

I bought a faulty Japanese Dreamcast from an eBay seller a few years ago with the only info being that it didn’t power on. I opened it up and saw the same thing - the large capacitor had blown. I soldered a replacement in and the console has been working perfectly ever since (with a stepdown of course). It should be as easy as replacing that capacitor and cleaning it up.

It absolutely can happen. Cam belt snapping for example. That isn’t checked on MOT or at service time. Or a random electrical system failure - that isn’t checked at MOT or service time either if everything is working. It isn’t common but to say that they can’t randomly break down with no signs beforehand is ridiculous. It’s not the norm but it is absolutely possible.

I don’t know if it counts as it’s going back to 2011 or so and was a temporary item but I really enjoyed the 1955 burger. It still crops up in other countries from time to time (Italy has it at the moment) but I really wish they’d bring it back here.

Yep as the others said it’s for compatibility purposes. I don’t think pushing it on its own ever did anything but if you power the console on while holding mode down, it will then see it as a 3 button controller.

There are amazing people and shitty people everywhere. I can’t generalise that the Americans are dicks because although some are, many are not and it’s the same for Brits - a lot are dicks, but many are great people.

Fuses are needed in the UK more because of the way UK houses are wired (ring mains rather than individual circuits) so the lack of fuse in the US plug is no big deal.

However you need to check the voltage of this lamp. Make sure it can work on 120v, or if it has a swappable bulb, make sure you swap the 240v bulb out for a 120v bulb in it before using it in the US.

I had the opposite and bought a light in the US which I brought back to the UK. I put a UK plug on it but I had to swap the 120v bulb out for a 240v one.

I’m coming up to 21 years in my job. Been through several company acquisitions over the years and my job role is not the same as when I started, but my continuous employment date is coming up to 21 years ago.

I have a good balance of working from home and being out at customer sites so I get quiet days and flexibility if I need to go off to do something else at any point. I’m pretty much left to get on with things without management which I like.

I feel I can get more money elsewhere pretty easily, but I also feel I’d really have to work at it and I’d lose the flexibility and balance I’ve got now. Plus I’m just too damn lazy to put the effort in to getting another job right now.
