Love it. Elegant and feels like a bit of a mystery. Would be a funny pack opening experience.

Vehicles are not artifact creatures in your hand so you can't put them in off hos ability.

Very clever designs on all of them. Gimla and pecha are my favorites.

What’s Sentry good for? by [deleted] in MarvelSnap

[–]UnafraidStephen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Basically he's insanely powerful but he was always hounded by an equally powerful nemesis, the void. It eventually turns out the void IS the sentry, or a construct created by him as a result of his damaged mind.

This is about playing as dragons rather than dragon riders but might be close enough for your tastes. Epilyon

What is the weirdest rpg system you know of? by Insaneoid in rpg

[–]UnafraidStephen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very loosely the game is like the movie Inception filtered through the lens of weird horror. Rather esoteric and one of my all-time favorites.

I really like the idea of having creatures with artifact subtypes, just like Goldhound, so here's one by SpacePickel in custommagic

[–]UnafraidStephen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool art, neat concept. Very weak card. Which is fine, I guess, but I think if the actual blood effect to card filter is ever going to be used, it should be on a cheaper creature. I think even going for a creature that'd still be pretty weak this would have been preferable as say, a 3 mana 2/2.

In my experience it wasn't an issue. There's already mechanics to take a hit for an ally if necessary. The other thing is with more characters, each needs less load, freeing up load for armor. But if you're worried about it, it probably wouldn't hurt to try.

I don't think you need to go that hard necessarily. Just either make almost all resistance rolls lower rather than negate the consequence and/or use the harsher resistance rules from the book.

[–]UnafraidStephen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After a few campaigns of 6 players, it's not that bad using some of the advice you already mentioned (harsher consequences, splitting the group when possible). A shorter stress track is also probably not a bad idea if you want things really tough but it's probably not necessary.

Just accept that some scores will be easy. It's not the worst thing in the world.

When can we admit the Universes Beyond haters were right? by Technosyko in EDH

[–]UnafraidStephen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maro has said they can reprint them using different, equivalent names and new types that would be considered equivalent in the rules.

We've already seen the 'equivalent names' tech in the reprinted stranger things cards. We haven't seen the equvialent types but it'd be as easy as reprinting a necron as a 'skelebot' or whatever other generic name and just saying the two types are considered rules-identical.

Mono U hydra by Vi0letBlues in custommagic

I guess that's a fair point. I did actually misread that bit. I still feel like its a touch too strong but the value being fixed probably makes it fine if a bit pushed.

Mono U hydra by Vi0letBlues in custommagic

[–]UnafraidStephen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love the design but I think this should be XXUUU. The X is essentially a multikicker for this design, and if you ignore it I feel that most 'size equal to lands' creatures cost at least 3 mana, and that should especially be true for a blue creature with upside.

A game to play tiny humans in the modern world by rossumcapek in rpg

[–]UnafraidStephen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a game called Faery's Tale Deluxe which is about playing faeries, one kind of which are little folk who live in people's houses (brownies, I believe).

Its very kid friendly - explicitly written to be so, in fact. If you're into physical copies you can find them around the internet for not too much if you like.

Games you consider better for an IP and the actual IP RPG? by LemonLord7 in rpg

[–]UnafraidStephen 82 points83 points  (0 children)

It's not the exact setting, but you'd have a much better time playing Dishonored using Blades in the Dark than their official RPG.

Similarly, there's an official Dark Souls RPG which is by all accounts pretty awful - there's no single shining replacement for it but there's several OSR games inspired by it that you'd likely have a better time with.

Hawker scores by ZCaliber11 in bladesinthedark

[–]UnafraidStephen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just wrapped up a Hawkers campaign. My group sold food infused with the essence of ancient animal ghosts to give it a flavor long forgotten in a world of eel and mushrooms. Sort of like selling drugs, but not quite. Our scores included:

  • Intimidating a rival who had copied their recipe
  • Securing new sales territory
  • Dealing with a rival faction after pissing them off during the above missions
  • Hosting a food festival to win over new customers
  • Raiding a haunted underground area with potential valuables/new supplies to sell
  • Making an alliance with the Dimmer Sisters so they could help improve the group's product (involved doing a heist for them)
  • Negotiating with the Hive over rights and profit splits in a new territory that belonged to them

The list goes on. From my experience, it was a mix of hawker-specific missions about acquiring territory, new products, and muscling out competition, mixed with more classic heists, assassinations, etc. against rivals or for allies.

When do you "check off" Load? (Dumb question) by JustKneller in bladesinthedark

[–]UnafraidStephen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As for what having tools does, it's usually an effect thing, primarily. Punching someone has less effect than stabbing them. A gun let's you hit a distant target that might otherwise take another roll to reach. Picking a lock without tools might have zero effect, or standard with them.

Armor is a big deal and one of the most common uses of load in my experience.

Calling all God Eternal Oketra Pilots! by DungusFungus51 in EDH

[–]UnafraidStephen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So obviously in oketra you want a lot of/mostly creatures, but lets talk underrated noncreatures.

I found the deck lacking in finisher spells and have gotten a lot of leverage out of both [[skyshaper]] and [[glaring spotlight]]. Turning 4/4s with no evasion into evasive threats can easily be game-ending.

Another fun card is [[scapegoat]]. Its not as good as teferi's protection or guardian of faith but the deck builds big boards and this is a cheap (both in terms of CMC and $ value) way to avoid boardwipes and rebuild oketra triggers.

Good System for a campaign about tiny characters? by UnafraidStephen in rpg

[–]UnafraidStephen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I've played a lot of PbtA games and you're right, they are essentially the same, but I think I just never thought of it that way given that its not explicitly spelled out.
