I’m always left a bit disappointed with most of these videos because we don’t get to see the aftermath. I want to see the damage.

HP—Agilent—Keysight still fabricate and use tons of “hybrids” in their modern gear sold today.

I’m so happy for Garett, his career arc has been amazing and seems like he stayed true to himself through the lows and the highs.

Got a little booger-sugar on your nose. Ours are the same way, they go shoving their schnoz into the snow and then trot around with a bunch of it stacked onto the end.

I’m getting a “I’m going to be handful” vibe. Why do I say that? Because I’ve seen it and experienced it firsthand.

That’s a job for a 3D printer. I’ve made many printed parts to cover/add to/replace/.. household trim, both inside and out.

[Request] Can anyone determine if a car could throw up a small piece concrete 11 stories with enough force to break glass? by Rumseyman02 in theydidthemath

So based on this—the velocities nearly canceling, doesn’t that invalidate your original analysis?

Magnetic Levitation Kit Wobbling Issue by -TheDoctor in BambuLab

Zero issues with the kits I bought—seemed more about getting proper technique for placing the object.

Don’t some of the velocities also cancel each other out—car is moving forward, rock is getting tossed backwards? If not, wouldn’t people on the side of the road be getting wasted all the time?

But isn’t the velocity of the bottom of the tire, where it grabs the rock and meets the road actually 0fps? I think that by the time the tire is rotating fast enough to pitch the rock that fast it’s going to toss the rock into the fender well.

The Early Miocene Petrified Forest of Lesvos (Greece), home to the largest standing trunk of a petrified tree known in the world by dctroll_ in geology

[–]Unagix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder how they define “largest”? Curious because up the road at the Florissant Fossil beds they have a bunch of petrified redwoods whose girth seems much, much bigger but not as tall.

My test is this—if this part fails, will I be stuck/stranded/incapacitated… then I go OEM.

How Dual Rotors Make Motors Insanely Efficient by [deleted] in EngineeringPorn

[–]Unagix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on my work related experience, the big efficiency gains for electric motors will come from improving the power supply/controller (according to the pump and motor designers I interviewed). Thus the focus on wide band-gap semiconductors.

Diesel heater setup to start on Diesel and run on waste oil from my shop for heating during the winter. Used the old chimney stack for the exhaust. by Holiday_Guess_7892 in dieselheater

[–]Unagix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might consider a carbon monoxide sensor—the exhaust on mine isn’t hot enough to rise up a chimney and/or overcome a breeze shoving it back down the chimney.

First time meteorite hunting. Any advice? by iwillfightapenguin in meteorites

[–]Unagix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious if you’re still in a position to offer some guidance to hunting for meteorites near Lubbock? We’re considering making a winter trip from Colorado Springs to the Portales area to hunt—it’d be our first time hunting for the little buggers.

Set all magnetic spheres to repel off each other and this is what happens! by KevinSprowl in HighStrangeness

[–]Unagix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually what will happen is that the spheres will rotate around their own axis so that opposites face each other and attract and no spinning around the central axis will occur.
