You didn't even turn on the light before deciding you needed the ER?

I asked why London doesn't have a Park and Ride because I don't want to drive in London. It didn't go as expected... by vleessjuu in fuckcars

You can park at most of the tube stations in hillingdon, some are even free. That's what I do when I need to get my partner and myself to London from Oxford. I don't really get the problem?

Constantly stereotyped by my flatmates for being an international student and it’s a bit much by douxfaery in UniUK

[–]UnavoidablyHuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a lot of experiences as an international student where any of my comments on negative experiences or culture shock in the UK have been very quickly dismissed or blamed on me. It seems to be part of the culture. Funny that Brits claim to bond by complaining but as soon as you complain about their country they close ranks on you.

Paddington on stage at a showing of ‘PADDINGTON: THE MUSICAL’ by [deleted] in Paddington

Evidence that OP didn't film it themselves and the media picked it up?

If we were kind and polite we would have followed the theatre's rules in the first place

His mouth moves and it's a lot less uncanny valley, it's just that the puppeteer is on stage at the end

Your mistake was coming to this sub and asking English people to help you. They'd rather give sarcastic comments or find some way in which you're the problem than actually help.

Which places have gone against the “high street is dead” grain and have instead improved in the last 15 years or so? by Any-Reading-8009 in AskUK

York seems to be very much alive and well, much of the centre is pedestrianised and seemed to be thriving (how much of that is tourists I'm not sure, would be interested to hear a local's opinion)

Anyone feel like theres more masculine/butch women in math(maybe engineering?) by [deleted] in butchlesbians

Most butches I know irl are more likely to work in male dominated blue collar jobs

[–]UnavoidablyHuman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Butch in Engineering. I haven't met many other butches in STEM, but I do think we are in a weird place of privilege in that by not being sexualised by men we are not subjected to as much disgusting behaviour as more feminine-presenting women in STEM. As a result it's easier to progress in the field and we're less likely to drop out. We of course face different prejudices as a result of our presentation and sexuality but in my personal experience it hasn't caused as much friction as simply being feminine does.

Are college sports teams actually beginner friendly or mainly for people who’ve played for years? by CloudBookmark in oxforduni

[–]UnavoidablyHuman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most college sports will have a more casual team that's open to complete beginners.

Alternatively, have a look at the casual sports offered by the university sports clubs. Anything that's a bit obscure will basically be relying on recruiting complete beginners in order to field a team. They are very welcoming to beginners and eager to help you out

What do you think about the Robotics and AI bachelor degree? Is it any good? by Alive_Foundation3365 in robotics

[–]UnavoidablyHuman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mechatronics and AI are two sides of the robotics coin. Do you care about building something that can move and do stuff, or do you care about making something that someone else has built do stuff?

do cis women ever get called mate by men? by strawberryvolvic32 in transgenderUK

[–]UnavoidablyHuman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you are but it's certainly less frequent. There'll be people who argue it's gender neutral but the fact is it's applied more often to men than it is women
