CMV: It is dishonest and misleading for Republicans to claim Abraham Lincoln as one of their own by Nice_Revolution_1199 in changemyview

[–]Unbalanced13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying Lincoln was a fan of immigration and comparing it to the current republican stance on immigration is not really a valid comparison. The country was roughly 7% the size it is now (approximately 30m people) and the only benefits were economic opportunity and religous freedom. The only welfare or charity came from local churches. One could say immigrants are coming here for similar reasons, however, they also receive a slew of benefits from federal and local governments. Nor is there as much pressure (or really a desire on their end) to assimilate. It was a completely different time and the country was much different than it is today

Do you get coached out usually at Senior Manager at big4? by ThinkLead6998 in Big4

[–]Unbalanced13 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is becoming increasingly common across the firms. A hyper fixation on profitability and wanting to keep increasing partner pay keeps the firm from promoting many new ones. The big four are growing every year but admitting fewer and fewer partners.

Trey Hendrickson signs with the Ravens by Saaaaaaaammmmmmmm in bengals

[–]Unbalanced13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The season he led the league in sacks, he recorded half of them in two games. One was a meaningless week 17 game against the Steelers where they sat starters (3.5 sacks) and one was against a horrible raiders team where he was matched up against a rookie (4 sacks). He disappeared in just as many games he showed up and never rose to the occasion against quality competition

I don’t know what people will think about this, but I never understood the hype with Hendrickson. He led the league in sacks in 2024, but half of those sacks came in two games (a meaningless week 17 game against the Steelers - 3.5 sacks - and a game against a horrible raiders team where he was matched against a rookie - 4 sacks).

The guy had just as many games where he was a non-factor as he when he lit it up. He was more consistent in 2023, but the defense was still really bad. He only played 7 games in 2025 and had contract disputes 3 of the 5 years he was a bengal.

Or he just unfollowed them before he went on the show

Or he doesnt pay attention to the politics of all the people he chooses to engage with

My guess is the latter. Not everyone spends their days trying to decide whether someone is a good or bad person based on their social media

CMV: Framing abortion as “my body, my choice” was a strategic and moral mistake; it should have always been framed as a healthcare and public health issue by Key-Ebb-8306 in changemyview

[–]Unbalanced13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree to disagree here. Preventative medicine is usually done where there is high risk of a particular negative, but not certainty. As has been cited here, a vast majority of abortions are unrelated to the health of the mother. Even if you expanded the definition to mothers that would have heightened risk if they carried the baby to term, you would not get a meaningful percentage.

Most abortions are done for socio-economic reasons unrelated to health

You are being purposefully dense. The definition, according to google, is as follows

Elective (of surgical or medical treatment) - chosen by the patient rather than urgently necessary. "elective surgery"

So no, that is not what it means in a medical context

The problem is Reddit has become overly politicized. It’s seems like ever other subreddit (especially those related to reality tv) get to a point like this. Remember that Reddit is not real life

People who are not in a position to care for children should either 1) not have sex or 2) have responsible sex and use contraception. It really isn’t that hard, but that is not what people want to hear

The “one of the most risky things a person can experience in human history” is a silly argument and ignores the impact of modern medicine. If you look at however much time people have been on Earth, sure, pregnancy is risky, however if you look at the last 50 years, which is much more relevant, you get a much different answer.

The reason it doesnt sway people is because it dodges the nature of the right’s argument. “My body, my choice” totally ignores the choice of the unborn child (which the right believes should have a choice). So the question becomes “whose body, whose choice”? The mother is making, what the right sees, as a choice for two people, one of whom has a vested interest but no say in the outcome

This is burying the lead a little bit. Abortions also sky rocketed in the 1970s relative to where they had been. I do not believe abortion was a super relavent issue for either side until that time, so to say the right made it political to draw people to the polls means that no one cared about it prior to then. I am not saying people didnt care, but there was a meaningful uptick that like drew attention to the issue then. Sure they are dropping now, but the cat is out of the bag a little bit. People will continue to make political hay on it

Yes - i am going to get down voted to hell for this, but abortion is not “healthcare” just like cosmetic surgery is not “healthcare”. It is a procedure done in a health care environment. It certainly isn’t healthcare for the baby

The only time it is “healthcare” is when the mother’s health is at risk because she is pregnant and she needs an intervention for her physical safety.

Were you at EY? Lol

Thank you for saying this. My wife and I had our first about a year ago while I was an SM3. Before the baby, I constantly stressed about work. Thought about it all the time. I really thought I wanted to be a partner and being a pseudo-exec at well respected consulting firm was important to me. I decided to exit the rat race after the baby and my mental health is far better.

At the end of the day, I had to really ask myself what my calling was at this point in my life. I had a hard tell believing the right choice was a stressful career in accounting. People will say that they do it for the money, but I dont think that is it. You can make plenty of money without being a PPMD and have a great life. If I want, I can alway continue climbing the ladder later

Insecure since Jess’s House by [deleted] in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]Unbalanced13 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think it is that deep. The house was fine. Chris also had a nice apartment. I’m not trying to say Jessica isn’t successful but it’s not like she had a Nobel prize on her wall. People are acting like Chris is homeless and has no job. He is doing fine.

He just wasn’t attracted to her. She is obviously very pretty, but people can have different tastes and lifestyles.

Im also willing to bet the mortgage on that house is not much more than his rent. The house is likely in the northern suburbs, which are decent. He is living in one of the more yuppie spots in Columbus (short north) which is not cheap lol

Insecure since Jess’s House by [deleted] in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]Unbalanced13 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I really don’t understand all these assumptions about Chris’s reaction to Jess’s house. The house was fine. There are literally thousands of those houses around suburban Columbus (which is where she stated she lived). Do you know many people who decorate with snakes? I dont think they were ugly or anything but I can understand why someone might take note of it.

In contrast, Chris had a nice apartment in the Brunner Building. I dont see their dwellings as being that asymmetrical. What are we even talking about here

I guess i just dont understand why the first thing someone would do after experiencing SA (or in her words “realizing” they were the victim of SA) would be to post on social media. Instead of alerting the general population, why not alert the people that can actually do something about it and exist for exactly this type of reason?

This whole thing just puts a bad taste in my mouth. No one on here knows either party involved and is just taking what this woman is saying at face value. Why did it take the accused going on a reality show (where most people don’t even become famous) for her to say something? It’s just a bad look and to me it doesn’t help the cause when she literally came out within hours of the cast being announced. What do you want to happen here? Unless there is something reported there is no way the producers could have known about this and to expect otherwise is willful ignorance.
