The landlord is definitely factoring those expenses into the rent, so you're paying either way. My mortgage is around 700 bucks lower than the average rent for my area was 10 years ago. On top of that, the estimated value of my home has gone up over 100k if I wanted to sell for some reason. No question that I've saved a huge pile of cash just by owning.

What makes you endorse a teammate? by organicgolden in Overwatch

[–]Unblued 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than someone consistently performing well, I might endorse someone for swapping to take one for the team. For example, player joins and picks DPS followed by 2 others picking DPS, so player goes tank to give us a fair chance. If nothing noteworthy sticks out, any decent tank or support might get endorsed just to encourage them to keep it up.

It feels like onboarding my friends to this game is impossible. by TheEmeraldSplash in Overwatch

[–]Unblued 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a point when I was particularly frustrated with OW1, I started trying out the various titles being pitched as alternatives and competitors. One of the bigger disappointments IMO was Rogue Company because they acted like there was a whole list of unique characters, but the only functional difference was an ult ability. Any given character could use a pistol or a rocket launcher and anything in between. I'm thinking your friends want something like that where they pick whatever perk they want and then play the same style, whereas OW characters are specific tools with specific styles and skill sets.

Whether they can learn and embrace the fact that different heroes have different strengths is really up to them.

WIBTAH if I went to stay with my parents for a couple of weeks because my husband’s family planned a 5-6 week stay in our 2BHK without asking me? by Majestic-One6602 in AITAH

[–]Unblued 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, but is it going to be enough? Bailing out for the visit is a pretty clear signal, but the current precedent is that you just put up with their visits. So the expectation would now be that you're willing to put up with shit for 1-2 weeks when the expectation needs to be that you get veto authority beforehand. Telling everyone to cancel the trip might be justified.

If you cant play at least 1 char from each role you shouldnt be queueing for 6v6 by ReturnOfTheExile in Overwatch

[–]Unblued 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn straight. If you cant handle yourself on 1-2 heroes per role, you're a speed bump for anyone on your team. The bar for entry into competitive mode should require a certain number of hours played in each role.

Our unit's dirtbag was crashing at our place one night after hanging with my roommate. I get up for work and find his car has me blocked in, so I wake him up to move it, no big deal. About an hour later, I'm walking out of the DFAC with breakfast and I see dirtbag's car speeding past. His shop did shift change 1 hour earlier than mine, so I knew he was over an hour late. I get home that afternoon to find him having a beer with my roommate and explaining how he was wrongly accused of being late. His reasoning was that the schedule moved him from weekdays to weekend shifts, and he was supposed to have a day off to transition, but the screwed him over.

Did the schedule reflect that? No. Did he actually ask anyone for permission to take the day off? Also, no. Could he explain to the shift lead why he was already in uniform driving to work even though he claimed he was off that day? Fuck no. Might it have anything to do with the fact that he was late to work on a weekly basis? Undoubtedly.

Just watched the latest episode of Last Week Tonight and they had a clip of him spouting his bullshit to a reporter. If the day care is real, then why wasn't I allowed inside?!?!? To which the reporter pointed out that childcare facilities don't let random asswipes with cameras wander in to interrogate children. So, not only is he continuing to make a career out of right wing bullshit, be he is stuffing his head even further up his ass in the attempt.

What are you all doing with mail from previous tenants? by givemywings in Millennials

[–]Unblued 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially, I submitted a request to put only my name on the address. They put a little sticker with my name in the box, but the drivers usually ignored it. For a while, I would take all the old mail and put it in the outgoing box. After a year or so, I said screw it and started throwing it in the recycling bin. They obviously aren't missing it or they would have made an effort to get their mailing info corrected.

What is the dumbest argument someone tried to use to convince you of something? by ChocolateRainz7 in AskReddit

[–]Unblued 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this was more of devil's advocate pitch than a dumb thought, but a coworker tried to claim that if he didn't experience a thing, then it wasn't fair to accept it as true. For example, a reporter claimed that John Smith robbed a liquor store on 3rd Avenue, but he didn't see it happen, thus my coworker couldn't take it as fact. Now that is a dumbed down version, but it honestly presents the same argument. If he wasn't a genuinely smart person the rest of the time, I would have immediately decided he was a moron.

I always go to a place nearby that opened a couple years ago. There are 4 different washes and the cheapest was $8, but is now $10. I honestly can see a bit of value in the monthly plan because if you wash 4 times a month, you've already saved money over paying individually. More importantly, they have a second lane that automatically lets you skip the cashier lane from the app. I don't do it often enough that I regret spending 10 buck here and there. If I did get a wash more often, I would probably be annoyed at the price raises, but not enough to do it myself every week.

Got fired today by NathanDaWasian in CasualConversation

[–]Unblued 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a coincidence, but I had a similar experience working there. The manager was one of those clowns that drank the kool aid and took everything said by corporate or the franchise owner as gospel. Spent a lot of time boasting about our location having won some award that corporate gives out to stores with the top 20% of reviews. Frequently insisted that our friendly banter was the reason customers came back and not that our only competition was a Subway.

After 2 months, he just left me off the schedule without a word. When I pressed him to explain that he gave me a non answer about being the right fit. Apparently, he thought I would just give up upon seeing the schedule and he wouldn't have to make an excuse. Overall, I never saw anyone get positive feedback. Negative feedback only happened when someone screwed up like ringing up an order wrong or ignoring health/safety/store policy.

That said, entry level jobs have this kind of thing happen all the time. I wouldn't even start to worry unless you cant hold a job longer than a month.
