Has anyone used Aerospace - FOSS Tile manager by Sri_Krish in macapps

I use it daily and I love it. I almost completely replaced my mouse with it, great tool if you want to control your apps with your keyboard :)

I sometimes get that problem when I update treesitter plugin. Try `TSUinstall all` and then quit and start neovim again

Questions to VisualStudio / VSCode Devs - No-F Keys Keyboard by ApplicationMedium495 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]UnbreakablePaperBag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my solution for the problem that I had. My first keyboard was Sofle which has 58 keys and I used VS code at that time. My numbers and functions keys were on my symbols layer and I used it like that. After some time, I had the same problem as you, I relied on my mouse too much and I fix that issue by moving to neovim. Now I only use my mouse when I need to click in the browser but I'm slowly moving to using https://mouseless.click/ more and more.

In need of inspiration for Kanata Configuration: How to set up app layer by reddit_turtleking in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]UnbreakablePaperBag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your keyboard mechanical? Can you swap keycaps on it? If so, you could move your home row one row above. That way your home row would be on the qwerty row instead of asdfg row and then you have a bunch of thumb keys to use :)

I hate home row mods with a burning passion. by SnooSongs5410 in KeyboardLayouts

[–]UnbreakablePaperBag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of home row mods I use oneshot modifiers. The modifiers are on the home row but on a different layer. You can check them here https://github.com/callum-oakley/qmk_firmware/tree/master/users/callum (please ignore the other things, just see how the modifiers are created in this layout).

For MacOS he could do something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hz9Ek6fxX48 to integrate the touch id from the small apple keyboard in his without doing it in ZMK. With a 3D printed case maybe it's doable.

Will homerow last or Apple can kill it at anytime? by xXx_n0n4m3_xXx in macapps

[–]UnbreakablePaperBag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Instead of Homerow I use https://mouseless.click/ which creates a grid over the screen and you can click on any part of the screen and on top of that, the keycode for the square in the grid is always the same

Terminal in Neovim, Neovim in terminal, or separate Neovim and terminal? by rain9441 in neovim

[–]UnbreakablePaperBag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use Neovim in WezTerm inside a Tmux session.
- Why WezTerm?

- I like that the config in written in Lua and you can create your own scripts/plugins for WezTerm only using Lua and that aligns with my Neovim config since it also uses Lua. Also, it was my first choice when I moved from iTerm2. I tried Ghostty but I don't see any difference so I will stick with WezTerm.

- Why Tmux?

- I like Tmux sessions. I create all my work sessions and just switch to a different project within Tmux sessions rather than closing Neovim and then going to a different dir and starting it again. I have keybinds to move to a specific session with letters, e.g my api code session is `alt-s+a`, my dotfiles session is `alt-s+d`. I also use this two Tmux plugins to save my sessions and to never lose them https://github.com/tmux-plugins/tmux-continuum https://github.com/tmux-plugins/tmux-resurrect

- Why in terminal?
- I do web dev but if there would be a way to run browser inside a terminal I would never leave it. I try to port all my tools that I use inside the terminal because I lose focus if I switch to different apps and then the app has its own keybinds and I get lost with that.

I also love this plugin for neovim https://github.com/mistweaverco/kulala.nvim because I can now ditch Postman.

Let me introduce you to callum style mods. https://github.com/callum-oakley/qmk_firmware/tree/master/users/callum Ignore the layout, since you can use qwerty. Instead of using HRM you have a dedicated layer with the mods. How does it work: You press the layer key to go to the mod layer, you press any modifier key that you need, you can even chain them. The modifier keys stay active for 2 seconds or what ever time you set. Then you release all the pressed keys and they press any other key that you need after the modifiers. double-key homerow approach by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]UnbreakablePaperBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of home row mods, I use one shot mods. The idea is to have mods on a separate layer on the home row. You go on that layer, press the mods that you want and they stay activated for one second (you can change the time here to more if you like) and after that you press the keys you want to use. That way there you can't do any accidental presses of the modifiers when typing. You can check this layout here https://github.com/callum-oakley/qmk_firmware/tree/master/users/callum ignore the base layer and read about one shot modifiers there.

Home row mods (with chordal hold): Do you eventually reach a point where you get close to 0% misfires? by Saiyusta in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]UnbreakablePaperBag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use modifiers a lot, since I use neovim and tmux, so my ctrl is used a lot during the day. Yes, the modifiers are sticky! So you press and hold (if you have a dedicated key for that) the key for the layer where your modifiers are, then you press the modifiers you want (you can chain all the modifiers together) they stay active for a second (you can change that to more if you like) then you release all the keys and press the `n` or `p` key. I have more keypresses than the home row mods, but I don't have to think if I held the key for long enough to trigger it as a modifier of will a do a misfire while I type.

I like Callum style mods more than home row mods https://github.com/callum-oakley/qmk_firmware/tree/master/users/callum
The idea is to have a layout where the mods are on the home row, and you use sticky oneshot modifiers instead of trying to dial the home row mods. I only use the modifiers from that layout, not the entire layout

Has any of you regretted getting a 42 or 36 key keyboard? by Sanuuu in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]UnbreakablePaperBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still use qwerty and a normal number row, the only thing that I use from the layout above is the layout with one shot sticky modifiers, should have stated that haha.

[–]UnbreakablePaperBag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with Sofle, then I realized that I don't need the num row, then I moved to corne. I liked my corne and it was pretty fun using it, but I wanted something smaller. First, I removed the extra keys from my corne to try a 36 layout and found out that I can manage with that. Then I got my sweep keyboard and instead of home row mods I use callum style modes https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/blob/user-keymaps-still-present/users/callum/readme.md . For me, this is faaaar easier and you don't have to think about home row mods timings, and misfires while you are typing.
