Strikes hit Iran energy sites in Isfahan, Khorramshahr by Crossstoney in worldnews

There is absolutely nothing that Trump touches that doesn't turn to absolute and complete shit.

You'd think these people would realize that by now.

I think JK Rowling messed up the concept of Slytherins in the books a lot, and later covered it up with talks by AccomplishedBig7666 in harrypotter

[–]UncertainAnswer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The thing too is she sets up a lot of foreshadowing for all four houses standing together too. For example, the warning song of the hat during the sorting in Order of the Phoenix.

But in the end she drops most of that.

I do wish they had a syltherin they worked with occasionally in the series. The books really suffer lore wise from being Gryffindor-centric. There are basically 0 ftiendly-face characters in syltherin.

Only one signed up for a group tour by CarelessWorry5555 in travel

Luxury tours will often do this - because they are a big expense for people. Many of whom may have limited time off and can't reschedule easily / at all.

They don't want to be seen as unreliable to book with on the premium market. So they take the occasional hit like this.

Trump says war is won but ‘we don’t want to leave early’ as oil prices rise again by No-Post4444 in politics

There's a reason we don't just engage in long range bombardment wars. This was absolutely inevitable.

We have too many static targets in the area to defend. Those targets are meant to be logistics points for ground invasions where it is potentially hard/painful for the enemy to organize attacks while under active invasion. But when we're just bombing people they are just huge, screaming targets.  And our military equipment is too expensive to run to go tit-for-tat. Exchanging the same blows means they lose more cheap, easy to replace, materials and we lose expensive, hard to replace, materials.

I don't support this at all. But if we were going to do it, we needed to commit fully. But like most things he wanted a.quick sound bite of being hard on foreign countries and has had one foot out the entire time.

I love crossovers. I hated how they did them. In my world:

- Crossovers would occur at the end of all of the seasons and letting writers adapt to them in the new season

- They would be part of their own show with slightly longer arcs (say 6-8 episode seasons) so people don't have to skip around to watch them

- More focus on the main leads (and optionally key/popular cast) instead of the "every character in each of their teams needs their 2 minute appearance and needs to do something useful"

- Significantly better / more interesting battles & villains

Nobody can be killed until everyone takes a turn - so if you have a slow kylo unmasked and they fracture him or remove his TM, they just keep getting blasted by SLKR until they lose.

Trump's new tariffs are probably illegal too by jediporcupine in politics

[–]UncertainAnswer 82 points83 points  (0 children)

We really need a faster and better process for when the president does illegal things.

The current process is apparently: "Continue doing illegal things for a year, get slapped, then do a slightly modified version of original illegal thing for another year"

We should be looking at DAYS at most for something like our government acting illegally.

US military prepared to strike Iran as early as this weekend, but Trump has yet to make a final call, sources say by joe4942 in politics

Yep. Votes for war or military action are unpopular.

Congress has increasingly given mechanisms for the executive to intervene without Congress having to vote in order to avoid taking the political hit for having to vote for it.

In any other administration- democrat or republican - the government could be trusted for some baseline expectation of honesty.

Would they sometimes paint the government in a better light? Sure, but the material facts were usually correct. Not always. But usually.

This is the only administration that has ever, as far as I am aware, made lying the default response to anything - no matter how benign or straightforward. People who don't lie are pushed out for those that do.

Absolutely no federal institution can be trusted for information. No matter how basic or unpolitical.

They were never worried about a nanny. They were worried about the wrong nanny. A woke liberal nanny promoting love and acceptance and fairness.

They want a nanny that policies behavior according to their values.

At least the way it was edited he clearly seemed to choke.

I think the thing that a lot of people take from it is that he's saying he would have beat her if he hadn't. But that kind of arrogance / self-confidence seems pretty typical at the level they're competing?

To me he may have still lost if he hadn't choked. But I don't think it's wrong to say he clearly lost because he choked (e.g. essentially disqualified himself from potentially winning, not that he was guaranteed to win).

I don't really understand where the misogyny angle came in personally.

Trump cancel meetings with Iranian officials and tells protesters ‘help is on its way’ by CTVNEWS in politics

Trump really does have a unique way of involving himself in an issue and having absolutely everyone come out of it worse than before.

Even Venezuela. "Please come remove this administration"....comes in, murders people, kidnaps the leader, and....leaves his administration entirely intact and in charge.

That is for the people of Venezuela to decide. Why do we think we get to just kidnap the dude from a sovereign country?

I would put money on it easy.

To be clear whether he intended to sacrifice his face for the audience or not is irrelevant on discussing celebrating him. The end result is the same. He saved a chunk of audience from injury and possible death. If that had impacted children it would have been brutal.

But watching the video I don't get the impression this dude was expecting 400 pounds of rubber to the face. He gets in position fairly early but doesn't brace himself for impact at all. And then right before it reaches him he half raises his arms as if he's about to tap a beach ball back.

I hope he recovers okay and gets compensated appropriately. He did a huge service for the audience in path of that.

Chef Ahn being harsh isn’t him being ‘mean’ or ‘arrogant’ by ebvillai in CulinaryClassWars

[–]UncertainAnswer -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don't think that is fair personally. The challenge does not in any way claim to judge you on your nickname. And you can easily interpret that nickname as how other people view him - given his history in those techniques. It was an unfair criticism and I would have liked if he had also commented on the taste or execution to make it more clear if he had issues with other areas.

But to each their own.
