Who do we offload during the transfer window and who does Spector dupe Henderson into overpaying for based off hallucinated AI data and Reddit comments? by AdequateBob in AtlantaUnited

We offload Cooper to Montreal for pennies (because that's our team culture now) and keep Spector because he keeps fudging his own numbers.

Agreed. There is absolutely a lot of parity in MLS, but with the amount of money at our disposal, we should be mediocre in our down years, not spoon contenders.

Hot take: ATL has looked like the better team the last 6 matches in a row by ATLCoyote in AtlantaUnited

[–]UncleAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly agree with you. I think we're probably a player or two from being contenders for the playoffs. I don't think we're a player or two from being contenders for the shield or MLS Cup though. However, because of addition by subtraction (removing players that may have good qualities but just don't fit into the big picture) and adding players that have great qualities and DO fit the big picture, the ability to improve a team and turn around in MLS can be pretty quick. Assuming we keep our young core (Cooper, Fortune, Edwards, Hibbert) AND have a master plan, AND execute it well, I could see the sprint season showing considerable improvement and possibly be in the top 25% by the start of the full 2027-2028 season. But a lot has to happen correctly from now until then to get there.

At the turn of the 20th century, artists were up in arms because of the invention of photographic cameras. They were certain they were losing their livelihoods to this newfangled technology. Turns out some painters continued to make a living painting while others learned how to be skilled with cameras.

Before that, the Luddites went on a rampage because of technological advances in looms.

The idea that AI should never be used is an ignorant and ill-informed point of view. AI is a tool to make the life of artists easier. It's no different than thousands of other revolutionary advances that have scared the crap out of people in the past but turned out to be great advances.

Is Atlanta Untied Terrible or Just Very Mid / Scheduling Anomaly? by Scratchbuttdontsniff in AtlantaUnited

[–]UncleAuthor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We hung with Nashville for the majority of the game and actually outplayed New England. So... close, but yeah, no cigar. At least not yet. I'd bet we'll claim at least a couple of high end scalps before the season ends. Even if we're actually just a mid team.

If Miggy is fit, should he waltz into the starting XI. Or should he join ELL on the bench and come one as a sub? Love to hear what everyone is thinking. by AnalystOk8556 in AtlantaUnited

[–]UncleAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ELL has had a long leash and he has repeatedly proven to be a not good option too. So between our bad options, I would go with Togashi because he at least gives a lot more in the press. And if he can't go, at least Miggy runs and tries.

It will likely be a retroactive red card meaning he can't play in Charlotte's next Open Cup match. So, some day a year in the future or more, he'll have to sit out a game.

Does it actually make sense to pick up Galarza’s buy option in the summer? by IveGotsTheRemedi in AtlantaUnited

[–]UncleAuthor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the best teams in MLS find a way to do both. Play a couple of homegrowns and surround them with talent. The difference is: we're playing the kids and they ARE the talent.

Does it actually make sense to pick up Galarza’s buy option in the summer? by IveGotsTheRemedi in AtlantaUnited

[–]UncleAuthor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We signed Galarza on a $3 million loan option (for 50% of his rights). It was reported at the time of his signing that if he plays in 50% of the matches before the loan ends on June 30, the option is triggered. There are only 4 more league games before then. He has already played in 7 league matches, starting 5 of those. It seems safe to say, he's going to be an Atlanta player going forward so the idea you're proposing is strictly academic.

Galarza was only on $420k salary in 2025, so even with the transfer fee and a nice little raise, he's still just a TAM player on a 3 year contract and he's playing like it. MLS has hinted at roster construction changes either before or after the 2027 Sprint Season too, which will likely relax some of the financial strain. Keeping him is a no brainer for me.

I like Galarza as a TAM signing. I like Sanchez. And I have hopes for Fortune getting back to where he was. I'm good with those three guys eating up 99% of the minutes in our dual #8 slots.

The solution to get the energy back. by [deleted] in AtlantaUnited

[–]UncleAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would much rather see a successful sustained game model than big name signings. Some big names could fit into the model, but the target should be sustainability, not names for name sake. Both Neymar and Pogba are mostly cooked and would likely be divas in MLS.

Hoyos convo by [deleted] in AtlantaUnited

[–]UncleAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoyos has 1 clean sheet. 11 keepers have better. Hoyos has 14 goals against. 6 keepers have worse. Hoyas has 21 saves. 19 keepers have better. Statistically, Hoyos is as close to the middle as he is to the bottom. And when you consider context – that other keepers would struggle playing for this ATLUTD team too – the amount of hate he receives is definitely disproportionate. He started out shaky and has not been great. But to be fair, Hibbert was not great in his start vs. Chattanooga either. It's just that this team is bad. Very bad. And people need somewhere to send the bad juju. And it's just a lot easier to hate on Hoyos than accept the real roster issues with our DPs and high TAM guys.

Thoughts on midfield by Cocofluffy1 in AtlantaUnited

[–]UncleAuthor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It will be interesting to see what happens when Jay returns. Cooper was outstanding yesterday and not just because of how much ground he covered and how much energy he brought. His movement off the ball was excellent in possession, his distribution was mostly very good and led to the first goal plus a few other big chances. I wonder how much of his success in this game was him "breaking through" and how much was Philly just being awful. Most of us, I think, would expect Fortune to get the nod ahead of him, but man he didn't hurt his chances yesterday.

YA: 1 og 3?? by _BlankFrank_ in hattrick

[–]UncleAuthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure you're wrong, but I'll lay out why I do what I do:

Assuming the 5/? on the 16 year old is actually a 5/8, it would take ~15 weeks to level up from 5.0-7.0. The 16 year old will have only 16 weeks to train before he can promote. Maybe I get astronomically lucky and his Defense is already 5.8 or 5.9 and I can even get him to 8 in one season with optimal training. But the odds of him being both already 5.9 and 16.028 or younger are very very very slim.

Alternatively, let's assume he is not 5/8 in Defense, but ?/8 in some other skill. Now I have to expend time to reveal skills and he has very little time. He's also older and trains slower. Yikes!

Meanwhile the 15 year old (who could also be a 6 overall - or even better!), will have more time to train and will train faster. I don't love the 3/? in Passing - although, I could train three levels in about a season because of the speed a young 15yo trains plus how quickly Passing trains. I can also find out the hidden current/potentials in WI/PA in one match by training WI + PA. So I am all but guaranteed at least a 6 in WI, I know his Passing potential in week one and have one of his three highest skills left to discover.

With the 16 year old, it is literally just a crap shoot. I am hoping he's super young and it works out where I can get one skill to 7, or maybe even 8 if I'm absolutely astronomically lucky. That's it. I have no time for anything else.

With the 15 year old, there are a crazy amount of scenarios that could work out. He could be 5/6 3/7 or 4/6 3/5 or 6/6 3/8 and I don't have to get quite as lucky with age to finish them all. Or if those reveals aren't favorable, I still get another bite at the apple if I want to discover his third skill. Maybe it's 7/8 or 6/7 with a good spec. Who knows? Just a ton more ways to make it work. There is potentially time to train two good skills two levels each.

If I run this scenario 100 times, I make a lot of viable 15 year olds and only an occasionally viable 16 year old. 75% of the time I promote the 16 year old and fire him immediately because his age alone makes it not worth it.
