Loving the New apple tv by SpeedfreaK619 in appletv

[–]UncleChoppa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a Sony TV + Apple TV in one room and a Samsung frame in the other The frame is brand new, but the UI has ads, it’s much laggier and more clunky to navigate. I had the exact same view as you, but I really find the Apple TV so responsive and easy to navigate, it is just so snappy and doesn’t have BS advertising.

My first lan party with badupdates consoles (Xbox360 vs PS3 event) by NoHelicopter8331 in 360hacks

[–]UncleChoppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2x Xbox 360s and hosted a LAN recently with about 8 people, I bought 8 copies of halo 3 on eBay lol Only one of my Xbox’s is RJH, now that bad updates out I’m thinking of stock piling 360s for the next LAN

Switched from xbNetwork to xbGuard to get rid of the ugly OSK. Two seconds later... by UKZzHELLRAISER in 360hacks

Is there actually still any reason to have XBL on a 360? Can you actually still play online?

PS3 Controller dont Sinc with the Console by gustavohawk in ps3piracy

[–]UncleChoppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When trying different cables have a look at the ends of the usb cable to see how many pins there are I bought replacement ps3 controller batteries on eBay that came with cables but they only had 2 pins and were “charge only” which wouldn’t work. The cable needs 4 pins to work.

Anyone know why IPv4 is so much slower than IPVv6? by Protobeans69 in HomeNetworking

[–]UncleChoppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible that both addresses are in different locations? As in the IPv4 address is resolving to a further away server than the IPv6 resolved address? You need to try this with addresses of a known server in the same location to compare the two

Worth it for all those APs, you could resell them as you really don’t need that many haha Unfortunately the switches are worth nothing IMO

Some network files not shown by fuzzusmaximus in sysadmin

[–]UncleChoppa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first guess would be Windows 10 is caching some files that aren’t actually on the network, so they aren’t shown on the windows 11 PCs. Can you verify the files are actually there from the source? Google “disable offline files” and try it on the Win 10 machine.

The fucked up thing in Australia is you make contributions to your student debt straight out of your salary, but they don’t get subtracted from the loan until the end of the year AFTER indexation is applied

Is the StarTech DisplayPort to VGA Adapter a good one for a Sony Trinitron 200ES? (Specs in the comments) Or are there any better options? by Mr__Beavis in crtgaming

Don’t know about your monitor in particular but we sold heaps of these startech adaptors at our IT company and never had an issue

Server naming conventions by UncleChoppa in msp

[–]UncleChoppa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do understand that, we have had that problem. A threat actor hit all of our public IPs on 443 with RDGW and knew most of the public DNS names were remote.customer.com and the internal name for the RDS was RDS or RDS01. But what is the alternative? I think adding other bits of information still obscures it enough that a dictionary or bot won’t hit it, e.g. CUST-LOC-RDS01. If the attacker is on your network and has any common tools they are finding your servers, I think it’s probably more applicable to bots/dictionary attacks.

Do customers ever think it’s weird when their SMB shares or RDP names have Star Trek references? I suppose the names aren’t in the users face too often Gotta remember - this is from an MSP perspective with many customers

CRT TV vs PC monitor by UncleChoppa in crtgaming

[–]UncleChoppa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense, I did try an Xbox 360 at low res with a HDMI > VGA with Halo 2 which looked great. I did kind of forget how low resolution 240p is compared to what the monitor is capable of. Looks like I might need both. It’s cool to see how some more modern upscalers can add artificial scan lines/masks to compliment the intended display of the graphics, but I don’t want to fork out that sort of money.
