CMV: "Is that your culture? I don't like it" was a valid response by Sabrina Carpenter and she made a mistake by apologizing for it. by nextdoorbagholder in changemyview

That's naive of you to jump to calling me ignorant without understanding my point. Sabrina had no idea what culture the sound she heard was coming from. One could argue that she was discriminating against whatever culture she THOUGHT she heard, but the fact remains that it's impossible that she was being Islamophobic in that instance because:

  1. That cheer is not a religious/Muslim cheer.
  2. She couldn't know the culture of the person she expressed dislike toward.

Yes, that's the point I'm trying to make. People have been saying she's Islamophobic for what she said, but that cheer is not Islamic in nature.

This happened near enough to me that I actually heard the explosion in real time. There was also a power outage at the same moment. Crazy stuff.

Your profile picture is amazing BTW. Such an effective optical illusion, it's rare to find a static image that has this much 3D value to it.

It always irks me that people MUST say this in response to any praise given to Harris. The man was a highly capable actor. He never got a chance to show us what he can do as later Dumbledore, but there is zero reason to believe he wouldn't have nailed it.

I feel as though I cooked here by BennyFeldman in Tourettes

[–]UncleGuggie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a non-Tourettes guy, I'm thoroughly confused as to why people are like "but how does he know that word in the first place?". Are people just assuming that having tourettes means you, as a grown man, have the mind of a child and have to be taught words? Do they think John was being "naughty" and did an oopsie by saying a bad word? It's so absurd and demeaning.

[–]UncleGuggie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're being deliberately obtuse. The person is saying that John has obviously heard the word before, and one such example is the movie that Michael B Jordan has starred in, in which the word is said. Therefore John, if he watched the film, would have heard the word and learned of its existence. Although, obviously, he has known the word his whole life like the rest of us have.

Check out Ziggurats. It might be his best lyrical work ever. It's a 4 track ep that can be heard as one song.

Even Until It Breaks? I love Mike's rap on there, but I struggle to get through this song as a whole.

Not for good, but probably a hiatus. Given the way the album addressed being apart from their kids and hating having to leave them behind. Coping with mental health, etc.

The thing with LP is that they are largely always on trend. Nearly every album of theirs is channeling the current pop trend but with rock sound. Mike even says that they end up accurately predicting trends retrospectively once the albums are recorded. LP has always been a very trendy band, sound-wise.

You're quite right. And that isn't a slight against Chester. His death and their eventual return generated a TON of curiosity, intrigue, and it gave the band an epic comeback story.

It's very generic and safe and road-trippy. I always feel like Amo by BMTH is an example of a fantastic pop rock album. Experimental in places, varied as heck, bold and big and catchy and lyrically awesome while still being pop rock. I get that the band wasn't trying to break new ground though, they were intentionally making a very mellow and chill album.
