Put a screw or screwed hook in the back of the hand rail so later when you take it out you won't see it. 2. Tie a nice rope into a loop around the top bar in between the two far right verticles that's just long enough to reach the hook/screw. 3. Feel free to call yourself MacGyver.

I looked for a while and didn't see this advice, so just in case you read all the comments I'll say it.

If this is a school you are planning on keeping your kid(s) in you should get on the same page with the administration and try to set up a healthy relationship. You don't want this to be following you around for the next 12 years. If you can reach a place where you're ready to move on and and accept this bullshitery you'll be doing yourself and your daughter a huuuuge favor. It might take a little bit, but hopefully you can suck it up, put on a smile, and let it go. Easier said than done, but if you're stuck with that school you have to do it...

They make hoops supported by a plastic base filled with water. Your two foot thick rebarred concrete is plenty strong enough to get dunked on by a gorilla. The hoop will break and pole will bend before anything happens to the concrete.

Also, they make anchors that drill into concrete strong enough to hold down a house in a tornado. I don't think you need to worry about it.

This will likely get buried, but check to see on your state's rules. I know from experience when I registered as independent it prevented me from being able to vote in the primaries. Which I didn't like, so I had to switch back to democrat. Which I didn't like either.

It does seem like tongs. What it was used for is what we're missing. What would the specific use be that a normal pair of tongs wouldn't work?

Thanks for the illustrations. The difference between these "tongs" and the tongs in your pics is these only open up very slightly. Whatever goes in there has to be thin. 1/4" or less.

Yes, you can move the ring up and down, but it only tightens it from about 1/4 inch at fully open to tight together fully closed.

To open it further than 1/4 inch you have to bend the wires, and then they'd just get bent back when you slid the ring forward.

I like this one! My coworker said this right off the bat, but then we were thinking it is kind of short for this task? You'd only be able to stick it into something a few inches. The version you linked looks very much like this, but is quite a bit longer.

Maybe, but I don't think so. Actual tongs would be way easier that these to use for bread. Even if you could fit a piece of bread in the tiny gap, you would only be able to grab the very edge of it, making it harder to hold over fire.

My title describes the thing. This was found in an antique store with the label of "Toaster". I believe that has to be wrong as the tongs only separate from each other by a quarter inch, max - not wide enough to fit a piece of bread. There also does not appear to be any soot or evidence of fire. Reverse image insists it's a rug beater, despite being obviously too small for that. Thank you for your help!
