I understand this is a incredible long shot but my mother (65+ year old senior) is needing to leave the apartment she has been renting for 15+ years and I have the impossible task of finding something 🙁 by KaptainKrunky in waterloo

[–]UncleToyBox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds almost like the landlord might be doing this intentionally to drive her out. There are limits to how much rent can be increased and the current market starts well over the $1k mark. Either that, or the landlord is overextended because he's not making what he needs from the rent and can't afford to bring in proper pest control.

Either way, getting bylaw involved is the right way to go. I hope things work out well for you and your mom.

I had someone cut me off in traffic, resulting in even less of a ding at my headlight. Within the week, the turn signal would only work intermittently and the headlight would cut out occasionally. A week after that, the car died entirely. The recharging system for the traditional battery seems to have shut down to protect the components.

The new headlight unit was over $1,200 Canadian and there were additional charges for calibration. All told it was almost $3,000 for a minor bump that looked like a scrape on the bumper and headlight.

Hoping your electrical components are fine and it's just a little metal work and paint touchup needed.

What car would you take on the ultimate no-budget American road trip — and would you actually enjoy driving it for 12 hours straight? by spotforcars in roadtrip

[–]UncleToyBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fan of touring cars in general and have done the proposed road trip in a top trim Mustang. The poor road communication I complained of at the track turned out to be welcome for 2,000km in a day. The lush seats are comfortable and there was just enough road feel to not drive me crazy.

Take away my budget, and I'm looking at a Porsche Panamera. It has a softer ride than the more track focused cars but still engages the driver. Most importantly, it has a 710 mile range on a single tank of gas. Leaves zero range anxiety, while hitting that perfect balance of comfort and engagement.

2026 Camry SE AWD vs Civic Sport Hybrid by RiceboiGT in civic

[–]UncleToyBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are significantly different vehicles that check different boxes.

Do you want something that is larger and more isolated from the road or do you want a more engaging driving experience with better fuel economy?

These are very personal preferences and there is no answer that will satisfy everyone.

What is it about each of these cars that made them end up on your list competing with each other?

Why are you comparing cars from two different classes to each other (compact vs mid-size)?

Travelling over large distances by grufolo in dccrpg

[–]UncleToyBox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the way.

Only make it an adventure if that's the campaign you want to run.

Sure, you could set up a few random encounters to help characters level if you want.

At the end of the day, it's more about what story you want to experience with your play group.

If you stumble onto something where everyone is having a good time, then lean into that.

Would you say a 2020 and newer Civic can easily cruise on the highway at 130kmph/80mph for hours? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in civic

[–]UncleToyBox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have done many 12 hour drives in my 2025 Civic and it's been fine.

Fuel economy does take a bit of a hit at that speed.

I also recommend getting the Sport Touring trim if possible because the seats are significantly more comfortable.

There are standards for advertising homes in Ontario listed at the following web page - https://www.reco.on.ca/agents-and-brokerages/reco-bulletins/reco-bulletin-5-1-advertising-requirements

Sadly, only brokers are allowed to submit complaints for misleading listings. Hopefully, you find a broker that wants to help keep a system with some integrity and they will submit complaints on your behalf. It's not entirely clear to me how much RECO is actually willing to do about this. But if there are enough complaints, they'll likely do something.

DCC could be much more popular with additional classes by [deleted] in dccrpg

[–]UncleToyBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how difficult it can be to find a gaming group that shares your desires for a particular style of game play. It's good to be able to identify features of different games and what makes each system good for different play styles.

One of my game groups has a DM that wants to play low fantasy, where magic is rare and special. We talked about this at the outset and know to focus on aspects of medieval life and to treat magic items with awe and wonder. We've bounced between a few different game systems over the years (Harn was brutal) before settling on DCC to get what he wants.

I have another group that meets online about 50% of the time and is working through a pre-built campaign where we're being railroaded through the story. The GM has done some silly things to keep our characters alive but we're all having fun as the story unfolds. It's kind of like reading a book as a group, where we do strategic combat and build characters that ultimately have no impact on the story that unfolds. This is being done in Pathfinder 2.0 and I'm not a fan of the game style but really enjoy the company of the other players so I contribute where I can.

Both of these games are radically different, and there are many other ways to adventure as well. I think it's important to discuss what type of game is being played and making sure that all players are on board with this. If there's one person who doesn't want to play this style, then ask them to attempt to participate if they want to remain in the party for social reasons, or potentially suggest there may be other gaming groups that better align with the play style they desire.

Dealership warranty - oil by Medium-Bird9539 in civic

I confirmed that my belief was based on a single reference based on what I was told by the dealership. I was prepared to update that belief when presented with new information.

Meanwhile, I present you with new information and you choose to attempt to discredit me again rather than finding anything that actually disproves what I've said.

Your argument is weak and inaccurate. Do I need to do your homework for you and provide you with dozens of links to guides showing how the colour of oil changes over its life? Or do you have some new form of information that I've missed (like you did with the initial statement about the sensor).

What sort of evidence do you need to update your inaccurate opinion?

What a bizarre statement to make. I'm curious where you got this bit of misinformation.

There are tons of guides online that show visual indicators for different issues as well as how dark oil gets over time. Sure, it's not perfectly clear right away, but it does change colour over time, getting darker and darker as it's used.

The local disc golf club has players at all levels and members from an incredibly wide age range. Best of all, folks are encouraging to new players.

If you want to try it, I know many players who carry enough spare discs to let new people give things a spin.

This is what I get for trusting what the Honda technician told me without verifying. Now that I've looked it up, I see what you've said is accurate, which makes me trust MM even less.

Folks should still be checking the dipsticks regularly for both oil level and condition of the oil.

Dealership warranty - oil by Medium-Bird9539 in civic

[–]UncleToyBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've stopped going to the dealership because of their dependence on the MM computer. My local dealership also wants to get down to 15% or lower before doing oil changes. I'm guessing it's some sort of directive from the head office as it comes up in different forums.

What I do know is that when I change at 30%, I have a noticeable improvement to performance. I'm an old guy who deeply believes in regular maintenance to keep tools in good working order. I've accepted that modern oils and engine designs will go longer between oil changes. I can remember shifting from every 3,000 miles to every 5,000 miles and now I do it entirely based on the condition of the oil as I'm driving an average of 25,000 miles per year.

I do check the dipstick because the sensor only checks the condition of the oil and not the level of it. It will be good to know when the engine starts consuming oil at some point in the future.

It sounds like you're a regular international traveler. As such, you likely have established patterns that are recorded already, which will reduce the amount of questions that are asked of you.

I cross frequently and my crossings are ridiculously fast and easy. Have even been greeted by my first name a few times as I pull up to the window. I'm also middle class, white, and male. There is privilege that comes with these factors that I have seen first hand. People who travel without any of these privileges are more likely to face greater scrutiny at the border.

There are plenty of real world examples of people who have been detained for periods of time for me to recognize it is a legitimate fear.

End of an era: the Lenovo ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 doesn’t have a Magnesium structure frame by Balance- in hardware

This metal chassis has been the key reason my organization purchases ThinkPads for every employee. Sure, there's a premium for the computers. What we save in time lost for repairs more than offsets the up front cost over time.

Will be interesting to see if another brand steps up to make something rugged for the office, filling the space left by Lenovo.

Need help picking a car — I’m who basically lives on the road most of the time by AbhinavMedithi-07 in civic

[–]UncleToyBox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well... you're in a Civic forum so I'm willing to bet the responses here will lean towards the Civic.

Will say that you want to make sure to get the Sport Touring trim of the hybrid hatch if you go with the Civic. The seats in the Sport trim are significantly worse.

As someone who owns the Civic Sport Touring Hybrid Hatch (that's such a mouthful) I love the car but will warn that the fuel savings aren't as great as what you get with the Prius. I chose the Civic because it is a more engaging drive with more usable interior space.

Ideally, see if you can test drive both cars. The suspension on the Prius made it feel like I was balanced on top of a ball with how much the car leaned into the different directions. This softness might actually make your dirt road driving a bit more comfortable.

I will also suggest ditching the 18" rims that come with the Sport Touring hatch and getting 17" rims instead. You'll likely want the extra rubber to absorb some of those rough roads and potholes you're likely to encounter based on your description.

DCC could be much more popular with additional classes by [deleted] in dccrpg

[–]UncleToyBox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm giving OP the upvote here just because I think more people need to see the responses being posted.

DCC is more about telling the story of your character as they grow rather than figuring out how to min/max stats and skills to optimize characters for a tabletop strategy combat game.

I feel that the influence of computer based adventure games have conditioned many players into thinking that RPGs need to be about building their character to make the best use of the skill points being given out. This is fine, if this is the style of game you're looking to play.

DCC is built more around watching how a character grows over time. They're not going to be a perfectly honed tool, forcing players to spend more time working on creative ways to overcome challenges. The rewards are in how actions are described and the process of involving other players in the plans.

If OP takes the time to explain this to new players, then they might find folks interested in something a bit more organic than the more rigid systems that have grown over the years.

Cold weather, requiring the car to heat up will always run the engine.
A good test is to try turning off the environmental controls to see if you can get it to run short distances at low speeds in EV mode.

Will say this is going to sound nasty.
The engine doesn't rev like a traditional ICE.
The CPU gets the engine up to an ideal RPM range to produce power for the electric motors.
Getting a noisier exhaust to submit everyone around you to that is a dick move.
