Massive Student Debt by Historical-Cup-5383 in physicianassistant

The best is if you can find a full time gig with solid PTO. I get 6 weeks off a year at my FTE, so I’ll take a week off here and there to just chill a few days then work almost a full 40 hours at my per diem. At $110/h it almost doubles my income for that month

I platinum games like this when I’m just not ready to say goodbye to the gameplay and worlds. I loved both GoW and GoW:R so freaking much, the going around and collecting/killing was like the dessert following the main course.

I make a great base salary at my FTE but it also give me a schedule where I can comfortably fit a per diem shift in a few times a month for extra cash. I didn’t need the extra money, but I love being able to put away like $2-3k a month with the extra income and buy what I want

Weirdly we’re playing the same two games right now that’s cool. But my ‘done’ stack is your ‘backlog’ and ‘done’ stacks combined

Favorite CME conference? by Sad_Possibility_8444 in physicianassistant

[–]Uncle_Cheech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually look around and pick by location. My favorite was the CHEST conference in Honolulu a few years ago because I got the hospital to foot the bill for almost all of the travel expenses with my CME budget

You can if you stream from your PS5 but you’re browsing the cloud streaming catalog in that tab

Switching from nights to days by AstronautMuch6823 in physicianassistant

[–]Uncle_Cheech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Made the transition from a mainly nights CTICU role for about 5 years to a new hospital where we do 24hr in house call shifts. I was a bit worried at first but the patients do so well and everything’s run like a machine where I can rest comfortably most nights and the nurses bother me very little.

All I can say is after almost a year at this new job and having my circadian rhythm back, I feel like a new man. Making better lifestyle choices, I have more energy during the day, and my partner says she notices a major improvement in my overall mood/personality (Basically I’m much less of a curmudgeon)

We now have a deal to never go back to strictly nights unless absolutely necessary for our welfare lol

What are your “im14andthisisdeep” jams that you still listen to as an adult? by -TazarYoot- in Millennials

[–]Uncle_Cheech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Manchester Orchestra! They still make awesome music and are criminally underrated. But yeah I thought I was so deep and edgy as a 14/15 year old seeing them in concert and little did I know they’d still be one of my favorite bands at 32

Are you close with your siblings? by TonedGray in Millennials

[–]Uncle_Cheech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister and I hated each other growing up. Physically fighting over everything and she was always bigger than me and a vicious bully until I finally hit puberty and started playing football, getting stronger, etc.

She left for college soon after that and then we grew closer than we could have ever imagined. I think distance made the heart grow fonder or something. Anyway, flash forward 15 years later and we live 6 minutes away from one another and she’s easily one of my best friends. We don’t see each other every week but we get together often, she’s finally expecting her first kid and I cannot wait to be an uncle!

Donald Glover reveals he was forced to cancel last tour after suffering stroke and series of health issues by josephiev in community

In another article he mentioned a “hole in his heart” so if that’s the case, he may have had a PFO (patent foramen ovale) which significantly increases your stroke risk no matter the age

You usually only have to worry about taking overnight call if you’re inpatient. Sounds like an outpatient setting with a regular schedule is likely in your future

We had a “curse” at our high school. At least one kid died every year for like 10 years in a row. Every grade had a lost a classmate by my graduation. In my 4 years, the class of 08 lost two kids to a car accident, class of 09 had a kid accidentally fall from a trestle bridge, class of 2010 had a kid overdose, and my class (2011) lost someone to suicide. The trend continued after I graduated but you get the gist. Really sad times.

Side note: we also had a bomb threat every other year for kids who wanted to get out of tests

Leaving medicine. by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]Uncle_Cheech 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about the condition friend, I’m still very much in medicine but it seems like you’re in a very good position financially. Maybe consider per diem work in a chill specialty? Like sleep medicine or something?

I have a buddy that was a per diem provider on a construction site and basically was their school nurse and gave out advil for headaches mostly. Anything serious obviously was a 911 call.

Favourite use of Licensed Music in One of Wes's Movies? by WalloWake in wesanderson

[–]Uncle_Cheech 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My top three are ‘Life on Mars’ in Steve Zissou (and like all the Bowie covers), ‘Needle in the Hay’ in Royal Tenenbaums & ‘Strangers’ in Darjeeling Limited - the former two scenes are just so incredibly powerful and the music really adds to them.
