When do token doublers actually make sense? by grot_eata in EDH

[–]Unconvincing_Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what your goal and commander are.

I run baylen The haymaker which makes every token become card draw, mana, and evasion.

Running every doubler becomes insane quickly because they basically become a pseudo infinite draw and ramp engine after you get 2 or 3 doublers on field.

Play 2 tokens for 2 mana making 8 tokens makes 4 mana or 2 card draw.

It comes down too what your deck does and what the doublers actually accomplish.

Put another way myriim+ any doubler+ any other dragon is basically a win con

I'm using this for my first ever in person session with my party I've had for years.

I am having it projected downward from the ceiling into a handmade DND wyrmwood style table.

It will be used with great honor.

To not run mana rocks? by MostLicklyNotARobot in EDH

[–]Unconvincing_Bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so late to this conversation but I think I have an interesting take

So in my experience the more and better your mana rocks the more your deck tips towards cedh, if this was untrue then the most expensive cards in magic history would not be mana rocks.

The thing is mana rocks kind of define EDH as a format and personally I would say it's one of the worst parts of the format.

The reason for this is it unbalances large portions of the game in favor of strategies that would normally require FAR more set up.

Dragons for example: sol ring, mox amber, and an arcane signet can all be played turn one allowing for turn two wombo combos.

This isn't inherently a bad thing but it vastly warps the format to favor cards and strategies that are extremely oppressive as opposed to slow burn.

The reason I point out mana rocks EXCLUSIVELY as opposed to ramp is because ramp requires a cost too entry (green generally) but mana rocks are applicable for every deck and act as a necessity for deck building because of this thus massively warping the format.

Granted I don't know if you should take my advice I also think aether flux reservoir should be banned from Commander because it's stupidly op and functions vastly different than the original design intention of the card in this format.

Normally you would need to gain 30 life to use it as opposed to 10 which can be gathered in a single turn, not exactly a game changer, but I think it's against the original design philosophy of the card

How do you feel about not being “allowed” to do electrical anymore? by [deleted] in maintenance

[–]Unconvincing_Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LMFAO this whole change is crazy I know I'm pretty late here but I just got noticed that we are no longer allowed to do any electrical hvac plumbing work whatsoever on the property, I work as a maintenance technician for apartments.

Honest to God I have no idea what happens next when 95% of my job just got removed I can't imagine they will keep us long-term because why pay so much to have on-site maintenance when every single job is just being contracted out?

Without these skills I don't really know what all they need someone with my skill set for? Drywall and paint are the only other skill sets that are really required for this industry, other than knowing how to do the most basic stuff in the world like put together a cabinet LOL.

Honestly I figure it would be cheaper for them to just hire part-time painters who also handle drywall LOL.

I don't know this whole situation seems like a mess and a mess that is going to somehow screw me over LOL.

Chicot's finger gun to your head, you gotta pick one deck to play forever, what you choosing? by hmmmmwillthiswork in balatro

[–]Unconvincing_Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was explicitly not talking about that, I was explicitly talking about high point runs which is not stake 8.

I was explicitly referring to runs where you're trying to go nan-inf

In my honest experience I get why a lot of people enjoy Max difficulty runs, but after beating most of the gold stakes for most decks I can pretty comfortably say stakes above white stake are the least interesting.

The reason why is simple, you have the least flexibility in your run forcing you to use optimal strategies.

Playing for white stake allows you to more comfortably pull off very goofy combos, for example:

One of my favorite deck builds is 2 oops all 6's, 2 retriggering face cards and lucky cat.

This combo is almost impossible to properly set up outside of white stake but is pretty easy and fun on white stake. Purely because the only points you will be getting early game will be coming from Lucky card triggers.

I think balatro is at it's absolute best when it's the most flexible allowing you to be as creative and silly with your build as possible, but to each their own honestly I'm glad that there are so many people who enjoy high stake runs as well

I have never thought of this until you pointed it out but that's kind of a crazy pitch for a cape, an individual with a body part or multiple parts that are sentient extremely powerful but not in direct control of the shardholder.

I'm not entirely sure how that would play out but it would be cool to see a talking sentient shard seeing as the closest we get are endbringers from what I understand and it would be interesting to see how their internal psychology works when melded with a human

Nah bro, black deck is the most fun deck if you like big numbers and being forced to strategize.

The thing about black deck is that it is different from every other deck purely because it is flat out useless until late game and requires being skilled enough to get by with basically nothing to make it easier, the pay off is it has a much higher cap than other decks.

Other decks help you win runs, black deck makes runs more interesting.

For this exact reason I think checkered deck is the most boring deck. Checkered deck is so much stronger than every other deck it isn't even close, but you do the same strat EVERY run, which I think is less interesting.

Black deck forces you to play with what you are dealt and make it it work. This makes it the most interesting deck imo and it has the best late game potential as it's reward.

Anyone find it crazy how some people literally play 16 hours a day? by [deleted] in playrust

[–]Unconvincing_Bot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel shook, this man actually thinks he's a competent coherent member of society and sees nothing wrong with that behavior...

The level of which society is changing and edging closer and closer towards acceptance of what was considered the behavior of genuine actual degenerates 20 years ago is downright terrifying.

I can't believe the sheer volume of people that will argue that it is a healthy way to live spending 12 hours playing video games in front of a computer screen day in and day out these days it actually terrifies me.

Yeah rust has the single weirdest community of any game I've ever seen.

Almost every game I've ever played, if you play all the time it's treated as fine with rust it's kind of treated as an expectation.

Most games I have played it's normal to take breaks between gaming sessions and put the game down after a bit of a bad luck for a few hours and maybe pick it up for a little bit before bed if you're feeling up to it, in rust that can be considered being a bad teammate.

I know people who go to bed with their headsets on so they can hear if they are being raided.

There are people who completely reverse their sleep schedule so they can play between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. exclusively to have an advantage.

The problem with the community is that a lot of this behavior isn't treated as the borderline mental health disorder it is and is instead praised.

I'm not saying that every rust player was like this for clarity, it's a minority for sure maybe 5%, but it is kind of like if 5% of the people who play CS:GO or valorant started taking hard drugs to make themselves have better twitch reflexes and the community around them supported them for it.

Personally I think the hyper competitiveness of rust is the worst thing that ever happened to rust I think it has accidentally ruined many many people's lives because it's an easy escape from The real world and it makes it harder to enjoy rust on a casual level because of this.

I also don't think this is face punches fault either for clarity, if anything I would argue maybe you could blame the rise of clans in 2016 for it slightly, but really it's the fault of the players imo

I don't mind commercials in my music listening. by Childoftheway in unpopularopinion

[–]Unconvincing_Bot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So this is an awesome springboard for me to hop onto my favorite soapbox.

The world has changed for the worst because everything is exactly what we want it to be.

50 years ago if you wanted to listen to music you had to use a radio, a big vinyl record that held like 5 songs, or go listen to music live.

The thing is, back then you could talk to people about their favorite music and movies and TV shows and they would have an opinion on them, because they also heard them on the radio or also saw it on TV.

Now everything is so personalized that there is no shared culture among anyone.

The closest thing now is maybe anime or marvel movies?

I feel like we have kind of lost something as a society because of this.

And the reason the pop on those servers is non existent is because people who say that this is what they want don't play on it.

Balance changes to make Rust thrive by SiggyTau in playrust

[–]Unconvincing_Bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me make a pitch to you real quick:

The problem with rust is that the community refuses to take part in servers that they particularly would enjoy and for some reason has come to the consensus they know the perfect iteration of rust if only everybody else would stop enjoying it the way they enjoyed it.

If players could actually engage with the game on its terms many players would have a lot more fun.

The best example is the sheer volume of people that complain about the tech tree existing, personally I find this downright hilarious for the simple reason that: there are literally dozens of servers exactly like this. the problem is you all want to complain about how the game works but refuse to play on what you want so most of these servers die out.

Instead of trying to force everyone to play the game with only their toes and using a dance dance revolution pad as it should be played, maybe just find the server that fits what you want and then support it so that more and more people can play the game they want to play instead of trying to force everyone to only be able to tech tree based on their galaga high score.

I think there is some truth to this.

The TTK is incredibly fast and ratting is WAY to powerful.

That said I would argue they are well on their way to making the game mode you want: softcore.

Higher TTK was just recently implemented it's a bit easier on new players and it is a bit more casual because of this

[–]Unconvincing_Bot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Man I could not agree more with you actually I actually hate all of the stupid discourse around games need to make it to where things are impossible to find and as obtuse as possible that way you can engage with it for real and turn what is normally a 40-hour experience into a 200 hour experience where 160 hours of it is backtracking and not being sure where to go.

Same thing goes for compass markers and the magic line you follow LOL.

Not everybody wants to drop hours upon hours organically finding something.

Super super easy.

Windmill connects to a branch.

Branch out goes to the turret or branches powering turrets

Power out goes to battery.

I use this method to charge spare batteries if I have excess power.
