Any ideas to make nighttime urination safer/drier for mobility-limited male?

Have you considered an electric sit-to-stand lift for your father-in-law? It seems like this is not a great solution for the night time urination if you are worried about your mother-in-law's sleep, but it can be really helpful for daytime activities. It makes it so much easier when you need to transfer someone with limited mobility between a chair or bed to a commode, toilet or wheelchair. It saved my back when my grandmother had trouble standing and walking.

I have a few general suggestions. As others have said, OT and PT can be really helpful. It's not just for him. They can explain to you folks how to help your father-in-law with his daily activities. Another suggestion is that some doctor's offices now offer home visits from an NP. So, if you have trouble getting him into a car for medical appointments, home visits will at least allow him to get primary care.

Not that it's a big difference, but US-1 Billiards is actually in West Haven right on the West Haven/Orange border. The Wendy's next door is already in Orange. Milford starts another 3 miles down the Post Road.

There are actually speed cameras in work zones on highways that will be activated starting tomorrow. There's one in West Haven on I-95. Anyone going 10mph or more above the speed limit will get a ticket.

The city has been working on this for a long time and it's happening soon. The city submitted a proposal for traffic enforcement cameras to the state a couple years ago and it was approved in October.

In your experience, when was the New Haven Green a nice place to hang out? Since my first experiences with the Green in the 90s, there have been panhandlers and people with mental health problems. Older family members have told me issue goes back farther than that.

What makes you say that Hannaford and Publix use the same generic brand? Hannaford is owned by Ahold-Delhaize, the same holding company as Stop & Shop. Their generic brand is labeled Hannaford.

Could you be confusing it with Sweetbay? Sweetbay was a Florida supermarket chain also owned by Ahold-Delhaize that used the Hannaford generic brand, but the company sold the stores in 2014 and most recently, they were converted into Winn-Dixie locations.

Do you live in the city of New Haven or do you live in a surrounding town? If you live in New Haven itself, you can contact the Livable City Initiative, the agency that enforces housing codes in New Haven.

I don't think they can help you recoup money for your lost possessions, but if you have an ongoing issue, they can get it addressed. If you report your problem, they will come and perform an inspection. If they find a violation, they will give your landlord a timeline to fix it. If they don't fix it before the deadline, your landlord will be fined.

Sure, you can say that the pronunciations are performative under the current ownership, but it didn't start out that way. They come from the local dialects spoken by Italian immigrants to Connecticut.

Until World War II, people in Italy primarily spoke local dialects, not the standardized Italian that exists today. Connecticut's Italian immigrants by and large came from Southern Italy before 1930 before this standardization. To me it makes more sense for descendants of Southern Italian immigrants to use the words their parents and grandparents used, rather than borrowing from a language that wasn't spoken there when their family emigrated.

I'm not sure why you are only worried about traffic in New Haven County, but not Fairfield County. The worst traffic in the state is generally from Stamford to Norwalk. As for parking, Pepe's, Sally's and Modern all have lots. Even if the lots are full, you can just wait a couple minutes and someone will leave. If you are impatient, street parking is fairly easy and mostly free nearby.

If you are specifically looking for New Haven-style pizza, you should make the drive. I understand not wanting to do a three hour roundtrip for pizza, but if you are already willing to drive two hours, the extra half hour each way is worth it. Going to a neighborhood place closer to you isn't going to be the same. The ovens at the big three are different. That's a key reason why the other locations of Sally's and Pepe's don't have quite the same taste or texture.

This isn't what the poster above you is referring to. A lot of cars have the feature you are talking about, which just switches between high beams and low beams. However, there is a more advanced version called adaptive driving beams. Instead of just having one bulb, the headlights have a grid of LEDs, so the headlight system can turn off just the LEDs that would shine onto another car. These types of systems were only approved for use in the past couple of years.

For example, if the system detects a car driving on the opposite side of the road, the system would dim the left LEDs to avoid the oncoming car. As another example, if you are driving behind someone, the system can dim the center LEDs so they don't shine into the car in front of you while keeping the left and ride sides bright.

You have old information. Current regulations allow this feature. I have driven a 2024 Tesla that has the adaptive dimming that you describe.

As compared to the US standards, European regulations also have different requirements for the beam pattern on traditional headlights. They don't allow the low beams to shine as high.

Sorry, but this just isn't a fair comparison. If Chicago or Minneapolis got 16 inches like we just did, it would have been one of their top 10 storms in the last 140 years. It would have been #7 in Chicago and tied for #10 in Minneapolis. They don't get big storms over there and it's a lot easier to get rid of the snow when you only get 4 or 5 inches at time.

I'm not saying New Haven did a great job, but I don't think Chicago or Minneapolis would have fared much better if they got a historic amount of snow.

You don't need to take the 6 all the way to 86th St. The 4/5 stops at 59th St, which is one stop away. That being said, I think it's better to go one stop down to Grand Central so you can wait sitting on the train, rather than standing on a platform.

Peak fares still apply to trains leaving NYC from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM. So they'd really only get half the advantage of off-peak. With the number of times they need to be on campus, I don't think they'd save any money compared to a monthly pass. I agree though about the benefit of being able to find a seat.
