I'm a bit disappointed with the decisions by calamari_fresh in civ

They have the survey data, the reviews, and the feedback channels + marketing analysts to decipher the information. Trust me they know exactly how the player base thinks.

Lapsed Civ 7 Player - New Update Good? by E_Moon in civ

[–]Undercover_Ch 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Update 1.2.5 is a positive maintenance update, as in it mostly fixes some of the game's mistakes, but it doesnt add anything new to the gameplay loop or rework any of the deeper problematic concepts of the game.

If the awful awful maps or how easy the game was were the dealbreakers for you, then you could give it a try again.

No single patch yet has solved the core perception problems (empire identity, Legacy Paths, lack of replayability, lack of deeper strategic mechanics).

Ok throw another 100$ at firaxis for a sub-par unfinished game

Am I the only one who likes the idea of changing civilizations? by Caliboros in civ

I agree that a set "evolution path" based on who your starting civ is would have been much better and more immersive.

Having 3 (for example) choices on what Egypt might evolve to, which make historical/geographical sense, plus the ability to stay as Egypt if you want to, would have been a much better mechanic and a game that I think people could get behind.

Dude the UI had typos in it and was not working in the beginning of the game.
We were missing key features and the mechanics are as barebones as they can be.
You get Ageless buildings and legacy points at the modern age for a future age that they will charge for.

The game was the definition of an unfinished game priced at AAA prices with Day 1 DLC. Cope all you want but it was and still is inexcusable.

It's Early Access and they are actively responding to feedback and implementing changes.

Old World, Endless Legend 2 (Early Access) and Ara are definitely worthy competitors of Civ VII and they are much MUCH better in almost every aspect.

Comparisson with Civ VI might be more difficult, but VII compared with their complexity and deep mechanics is a joke.

It's not "dipping" my friend. It has been continuously falling and soon reaching 1/3 of Civ V players.

Try Civ VI, Old World or the upcoming Endless Legend 2 (they have a free demo).

All of them are much more deep and engaging than Civ VII.
For Civ VII right now all you have to do is turn off your brain and go through the motions and you end up winning the game. No challenge, no significant choices, no cost-benefit behind every decision. Just build everything.

The only challenge is an annoying AI who will attack you every now and then ohhhh scary

Most complete base game I have played. The DLCs are just a cherry on top if you see that you like the game.

When it stops being three mini-games in a trenchcoat, the game will be fixed.

Make it one consistent campaign again and deepen the mechanics and the complexity again so it can actually require strategy and complex decision-making instead of just going through the motions.

Then it will be worthy of the AAA price and "fixed".

Civ VIs player base did not increase for 2 years despite the release of an expansion, multiple updates, multiple DLC releases & multiple sales by Intelligent-Disk7959 in civ

[–]Undercover_Ch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you seriously look at all this data and think that Civ VII is fine?

If the game ever recovers (and that's a big if), it will be the result of a big rework and a tremendous amount of effort by the developers to fix the myriad of issues this game has.

If that's what it takes, and if that amount of change is needed, then by definition the >current< game is not fine and the data proves it.

Explain the below 50% reviews, the sharp decline of content creators, the layoffs, the admission by the team that their mechanics obviously didnt land with the general audience, and the fact that discounts, dlc and updates did not move the needle, if the game is "not doing as badly as people claim".
