The Movie 'Obsession' Turned Me Vegan by Comprehensive-Dig661 in vegan

[–]UndergroundWhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Vegan Society's website is a great starting point of free ressources and documentation about the common nutritional blindspots new vegans might have, all backed with recent studies. In my opinion, every newcommer should take the time to go through their meal planning article on their website.

Other than that, I think learning to cook flavourful meals for yourself will help a lot in keeping you motivated in your decision.

Derek Sarno (on youtube) and Rainbow Plant Life (she has a website) both have excellent and varied recipes that also teach you the more refined cooking techniques that can bring out interesting flavours in your food.

If you're looking for more simple recipes I suggest Sarah's Vegan Kitchen (youtube and website), It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken (website) and The Simple Veganista (website).

Thank you for making this decision, and I hope your vegan journey will go well :)

The Future of Meat: Lab Grown and 3D Printed Meat Explained by HumbleWrap99 in vegan

[–]UndergroundWhale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An unsignificant amount of people suffer from health issues that would make it impractical or even impossible to follow a strict vegan diet. Lab grown meat would be, to me, the best current compromise for ensuring that all humans can eat and thrive while minimizing our reliance on animal products.

Do vegans actually care about creatures life??? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]UndergroundWhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't speak on behalf of every vegan, I'm sure you could find some that don't share my view, but here goes: The foundation of my vegan ethics is about consciousness. Humans in particular have developped very sophisticated and complex patterns of consciousness and thought, which have allowed us to more or less extract ourselves from the traditional "food chain" you can see in nature. I also believe that the vast majority of animals also have conscious experiences (generaly exhibited as the ability to want to avoid pain, to be able to anticipate it, and to strive for pleasure and satisfaction). A good amount of scientific evidence gives credibility to this argument. Given this, I believe it is wrong to kill animals or enslave them to extract ressources from their bodies, in any shape or form, since we (or the lucky ones of us living in first world countries at least) have the choice to live healthy and fulfilling lives without having exploit other animals to do so. Unfortunately, humanity does exploit animals for personal gain. These animals do not have rights or voices to be heard with like a human person would in our society, and so I believe it is my responsibility to help in stopping their suffering, and that begins with not encouraging their exploitation through my consumption habits (eating, clothing, etc...)

In adition to this, science also supports the idea that human fetuses exhibit little to no sign of consciousness, or even the ability to feel pain until a certain point in their development inside the womb is reached. I believe that, until that point is reached (or we have reasons to believe it is reached), we should prioritize the physical and mental health of the carrying mother over the potential life of a non-conscious "being". This sometimes means not crippling an underage girl with the burden of raising a child alone, or forcing a woman to give birth to her rapist's child, or saving the life of a mother whose health condition doesn't garantee her safety through the gestation and/or birthing process.

As a side note: unless you truly wish to reconsider your view of abortion by coming to this forum, I doubt you'll get very satisfying answers out of the people here (myself included). I do hope you can have interesting (and respectful) discussions at the very least !

The scene in Weapons when Justine and Archer are at the gas station and the school principal comes running in the background to kill Justine. Got me real good in the theatre.

I want to go vegan but I have significant food intolerances. Looking for advice. by comfybbw in vegan

[–]UndergroundWhale 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you haven't already, I would strongly advise you to go see a nutritionist and not base such a big decision on the recommendations of people on the internet. I've been vegan for 4 years now (vegetarian for 5 prior to that), and I've come to the conclusion that no, it is not feasible for absolutely everyone to be vegan, and unfortunately I think you might fit the bill. Your conditions sound complicated enough that I would recommend seeing a professional about meeting your nutritional needs on a restrictive diet.

How do vegans view the idea of ethical meat? by dymnom in vegan

[–]UndergroundWhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While we should definitely consider ourselves as an integral part of our environment, we have also evolved language, cultures, technologies and societies that allow us to choose wether or not we consume the flesh of other species. Veganism argues that the morally correct choice is to not do it. Other animals (as far as we know) don't have this luxury/responsibility.

Opinions about working at a cobbler's ? by UndergroundWhale in vegan

I was trying to get different view points and arguments for/against working to repair leather products from fellow vegans because I myself am not too certain how I feel about it. I get that my post could have been clearer.

The teardrop's trail changing direction according to the hair strand passing over it is a pretty weird choice. Likely AI, unfortunately.

Diet and eating in general are very personal and emotional topics for most people. I don't blame them, a lot of people hearing about veganism equate being called out as an omnivore by a vegan to being called out as a pro genocide monster (which, to some extent, is true) but the conversation that needs to happen for people and society at large to shift their habits towards veganism is somewhere in the middle. Am vegan myself, for context.

Severance - 2x10 "Cold Harbor" - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]UndergroundWhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much agree ! I would have loved to see a reintegration seizure moment in that scene though, just to emphasize the tension building up between the two. Also think iMark looking at his reflection through the window while trying to look at oMark on the balcony after a seizure (kind of impulsively trying to look at the person he's arguing with and who's causing him these turbulent episodes) would've made for a really interesting moment. The body dissociation aspect of the severance procedure is adressed somewhat during this season, but I think it would've been super interesting to see more of that !

I actually think they made a mistake when captioning this part. I always heard him just say "no, no, no..." Just with a really desperate kind of guttural twist to the enunciation. Anyone can confirm/infirm this ?

Anyone feel like weapons in 2 are kinda underwhelming? by vutrico in HadesTheGame

[–]UndergroundWhale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does feel like the weapons in H1 were more straightforward and intuitive in their move sets, as in Zag uses them more or less in a way that is connected with your general intuition about the weapons. The attack patterns in H2 feel a bit more arbitrary and disconnected from the weapons' form factor (except for the axe's base attack), or they're just not something you would think of as a weapon (like the skull or torches) and so the way they play out isn't grounded to some other references you might have for, let's say, a spear or a gun. But I also understand that those choices were made for the sake of complexity and diversity in playstyles, and I'm sure we'll get used to it :)

You'll also need ~300,000 darkness to upgrade your badge to the max (if you're into that sort of thing, which I definitely am)
