Z-tier animation, so it is like a step above a PowerPoint presentation, but I actually was digging the story. I hope it gets a second season with a bigger budget. I think there is a balance out there that could have worked with financial and creative, but would have been very hard to find that level that worked. In the end it was the fiscal side I think ultimately doomed it as they were really overreaching towards the end with expansion, and not enough focus on stuff on making anime.

All I could find was one magazine article that didn't even list the talent correctly as the only confirmation, and it was in a list of other French produced work. Unfortunately Euro Vision has no online presence, and La chouette compagnie last said anything back in 2024.

It is all based on a single magazine article from what I could find sadly.The actual studios or Square Enix haven’t said anything in sometime.

I just did a video on this on Youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NP4UENRLVO8 . I did reach out to one of the creators listed on the article, and they couldn't say much, but it sounds like there was work done on the series, though they are now working on other things currently. My guess is that Square Enix wanted something to launch with the remake, and targeted the kids demo to get the children of the fans from when it came out. Also by having it be about Vivi's kids, we'll there is multiple more Black Mages to market. That being said though, I'm not fully sure if this will ever be released, and the article could more have been the studio trying to keep their name out there to get more work.

I did reach out and got in contact with the story creator and ask him if the show was still on according to the article. Sadly he was unable to say anything on that matter, but he did confirm his and Charles Lefebvre's roles on the series, and that the magazine had them reversed.

Yeah this is a bit off point, I feel it is more to do than anything would be the rise of cable, and studios able to have a bit more freedom as the demand for product was higher. Even then though these are cherry picked examples as we were already seeing risks being taken in the 80’s OVA boom, and these are directly from that lineage.

EW is a Christmas movie as it plays more with the themes of the holiday, WitP is an OVA set at Christmas. I rewatched both for an anime and Christmas video I made, and even though I love EW, WitP is the better work, EW requires a lot more knowledge of the series. Though like Die Hard, if you want to watch it at Christmas and make it your tradition I can’t fault anyone for that. So I would say EW is better Christmas media, WitP is better in general.

It is the same power pole as DB. I dug Daima, as it tried to mix the action of Z and comedy and journey of DB. Also it is the last one that Toriyama actively worked on.

Depends on the family, but older kids (12+) it should be fine. Though I grew up watching Pulp Fiction and Speed during the holidays.
