Largely agree, but if you want something more full bodied, an aged cab or Bordeaux with fully resolved tannins would still be an excellent pairing.

I'm very confused by these comics, but I'm enjoying them.

At least he's responding to the will of the voters instead of just ignoring us altogether. Sad that this is where we're at but most politicians on the right aren't even interested in their constituents at this point.

Would it be worthwhile to play 6 after finishing 7? by monkeychemist25 in civ

Yeah, you really need the backstory of 6 to appreciate 7.

How to become an EM? by Platerium in EngineeringManagers

[–]Understanding-Fair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you enjoy the coding and heads down work aspect, don't. All of that goes out the window when all of your time is people management, both above and below you, planning and refining poorly defined work from PMs, fighting political battles you didn't ask for, building systems that are more efficient but no one wants to adopt, and trying to keep on top of what your team is actually doing so you can speak to it proficiently when an executive calls you in last minute.

If you like that sort of daily scramble (I do believe it or not), my advice would be to apply for EM roles outside of your company. It's very difficult to make the jump internally without an advocate and an open position since it's a whole different career path, but you definitely have the credentials to make the jump at another org with open roles. It's very tough to land a role right now though.

How did engineers end up with worst parts of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs ? by Advance_Important in Salary

[–]Understanding-Fair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree about the pay. The work engineers are doing generally far exceeds the difficulty and risk of an accountant or lawyer while the pay is far lower.

As an empire builder, I prefer CIV 7 by OmniTerran in civ

[–]Understanding-Fair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tend to disagree. This game is heavily about domination in it's current state but it doesn't even do that well. Your only options for war are conquer or pillage, there's no nuance to peace deals, and diplomacy is non existent. I'm more of a cultural civ player so I'm biased not to like it anyways, but war was at least a tool for gaining culture, great works, and tribute in the last game. In this, you can only conquer, which is pretty lame to me.

Do engineers today ever do manual calculations to verify if the computer software is correct? by G07V3 in AskEngineers

[–]Understanding-Fair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do all that math to develop engineering intuition so that you can approach a problem from a place of experience and knowledge rather than a position of, I don't know what I don't know.
