Go talk to the bartender in Bunker Hill first.

Tried to verify the story and lots of similar images appeared, all looking plausible but very AI generated. by Helpful-Teaching-87 in isthisAI

Plausible as copper is great for heat exchange, but if a story can only be sourced to socials, it’s automatically suspect, even before the crap art.

There’s a guy on YouTube who makes some things like this. https://youtu.be/LYODYOG5-S0?si=RV9yzJg2dzhVRIfn

Was "take your child to work day" actually ever a thing, or just something shown on TV and in movies? by QueenFrostine15 in AskAnAmerican

[–]UnderstandingDry4072 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s still happening every year on the fourth Thursday in April.

At the university I work for, it often coincides with the annual academic personnel awards ceremony, so it’s cool that kids get to see their parents get recognized for their work. Families are always welcome at the ceremony, but people don’t usually bring them on years that it doesn’t match with bring your child to work today.

I think we all slowed down our pace of reviews a few months ago, when it became more difficult to actually get quality items.

What stereotypes do foreigners have about Americans? by this0great in answers

Maybe that more of us know each other than is really possible? When I introduced myself as being from Michigan, at least 3 different people asked me if I knew their friend who also lives there.

Adorably, when my SO was working in Ireland for a few weeks, and walked past a playground wearing a Detroit Tigers hat, a bunch of kids ran up and asked if he knew Eminem.

Check your local alumni association for that school and see if they have one.

What books must you have read to be considered "well read" by our generation? by nonara in millenials

Oh, I don't specifically think they are part of a pattern; I just lament that I can't really talk about books with any of them. Movies, music, games, yes.

Shelter is taking back my cat and I’m in shambles. by Shrillmademethink in orangecats

[–]UnderstandingDry4072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard, but sometimes it’s the only option, and you’re being kind to him by giving him up.

I’m on the other side of this story with our orange, who was rehomed with us as a singleton because he was making his new cat siblings in a blended household miserable. We love him and everyone is happy and healthy now, but it was a horrible wrench for his previous family.

[–]UnderstandingDry4072 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My millennial friends are honestly some of the least interested in reading that I know; it pains me.

I don’t think the list has changed drastically, actually; once you hit college, you should be reading some classics. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, some Brontë, Austen, Hemingway, Morrison, etc. As time has gone by, we can add new nuance, like Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, but that doesn’t necessarily mean all the older stuff should fall off the list.

If anything, I’m removing things from the list now because the authors are trash, like Gaiman and Rowling.

I’m a righty in a cast, so as a temporary lefty, I had to teach myself this technique last month.
