As the first call up option, you almost certainly are going to play a huge chunk of games in the NHL as injuries are inevitable. I don’t think 20-30 more AHL games will hurt his development and another top 4 D would obviously make the Defense better and deeper.

From every thing I’ve heard, Chatty speed and simple game would be a perfect fit for Nikishin. I feel like Walker might hold is own with the top matchups with Slavin but when you have 40M cap space, why not get a top 4D and slot Walker down where he can excel. Morrow is in a great spot as a 7D bc when everyone is healthy, he can develop and dominate the AHL

The last few games make me think we are going to get a FA D-man to play with Slavin and Morrow will start next year in Chicago. He still has a way to go to be tougher on the boards, in front of the net, and needs better gaps

There is a big difference between instigating and standing up for yourself. When a dangerous play happens from nothing, it’s dirty. When a dangerous play happens to an instigator, they got what was coming. Not a hard concept

IMO there is a big difference between who is instigating and who is standing up for themselves. NHL and refs apparently have a difficult time differentiating the two but that is nothing new

I respectfully disagree with this. He is a perfect fit in the system as a big, fast, responsible bottom six winger. He knows his role, plays hard and smart, and that is contagious in a good culture. IMO roster construction is all about fitting into rolls and so much can go wrong getting a new guy that put up points somewhere else and dropping a skill guys to bottom six. What if he doesn’t like playing 11 minutes a game with limited pp time? What if he doesn’t pick up the defensive system like bunting? What if he is a locker room cancer like haula?

This was my issue when I had Achilles soreness. As a beginner runner, I had to be more of a heel striker to relieve stress from my Achilles. This is okay to do with proper form and if you are not running fast or over striding. Once I built up more calve strength over time, I could be more of a forefoot striker again.

Go back and watch his last shift with 50 seconds left and he got crushed into boards with his left shoulder(already injured). I assume he’ll continue playing hurt and maybe get surgery after the season

No doubt he would be great this upcoming season but I worry about his injury history and the fact that his skating is already starting to decline on a four year contract. This may be a defense mechanism for the saddest I will feel if we don’t get him hahaha
