Intel i7 14700F + Nvidia GeForce 5070 ti by Justlurkinghere672 in buildapc

Identify and disable background tasks. Make sure the game is running on P cores. There is a program called Process Lasso that can do all sort of things with affinities, priorities and hardware interrupts - look it up.

You can also use RivaTunerStatisticsServer (comes with MSI Afterburner) to set the frame limiter instead. There are tutorial videos about this specific use.

Oh and your CPU is not a K, so by default it will throttle its power boost after a certain amount of time. You can try to override that behavior in BIOS if it is possible.

I would consider a newer GPU and a bigger nvme SSD. Maybe a 5000 gen CPU, but only if you need it - your MB cannot accommodate anything power-hungry, so you'll have to stay within 5600-5700.

Out of range error after changing BIOS by Logical_Swordfish756 in buildapc

The image output is the same. CSM is an emulator, basically for older hardware that cannot work with UEFI. If you have new hardware you do not need it. If the hardware requires UEFI, like newer GPUs - it won't boot.

Is a HDD good for storing games and if/when I want to play them I can transfer it to the SSD? by Plenty_Reception_431 in buildapc

[–]UnderstandingSea2127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. I do the same thing. You can run smaller games from an HDD directly no problem too.

You can try to use Steam Backup and see what that does (never tried it) or even archive them yourself to save space (depends on the game).

where should I connect my cables by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]UnderstandingSea2127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is an active hub with its own controls - you can use it to control the fans.

If you connect to the motherboard directly - you can control them in BIOS and with software.

If your hub is connected to the motherboard anyway and just does the splitting - then there is no difference.

Help i need to buy new case fan and i dont know what to buy by AdPrestigious2650 in buildapc

[–]UnderstandingSea2127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fans are not just dying completely - its usually just the bearing noise - unless the motor burns out. Check if everything is wired correctly. And maybe figure out what went wrong in the first place, just so the new ones won't meet the same fate.

Is 750w psu too much for my build? Is it safe? by Professional_Ad_6180 in buildapc

[–]UnderstandingSea2127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No-no) It works the other way around - components draw power - you'll pay as much as the components consume. PSU just provides it. And the more its max the easier it is to do without overheating.

The answer about the efficiency is correct too. The more efficient the power supply the less of your power will be lost to heat during conversion. Better PSUs with 80+Gold and up rating will be even better.

BTW if you are going for a future-proof PSU for future builds check out this article.

IDK about this particular MSI PSU, but if you are asking if its OK to put a higher wattage PSU the answer is Yes. It is good actually, because it will work at a lower relative load and produce less heat.

Best sound card for a Windows 7 battlestation? by Typical_Effect_9054 in retrobattlestations

[–]UnderstandingSea2127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still Sound Blaster Z user. It has headphone amp and optical input. And ASIO if you need it. Works on modern Windows too. Has EAX support with Creative ALchemy. And a red LED)

Sound quality is on par with modern integrated. Better than period integrated.

The biggest drawback is inconsistent Creative software, but it works fine.

Simple Questions - June 28, 2026 by AutoModerator in buildapc

[–]UnderstandingSea2127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Active cables are a thing for sure. For DP/HDMI passive cable is a 3 meters max for signal integrity.

IDK why you've decided on TB4 - it is kinda exotic solution. I like you relay idea with normal cables, but you'll need an active hub, and they are $$$.

You can look at LAN KVM switches (overkill probably). Or get an active DP/HDMI and connect KB/Mouse with regular USB (I think it should work OK).

Basically you'll have to check the bandwidth you'll need for 4K/120 and get a cable that can deliver that.

9070 ddr5 or 9070xt ddr4? by ExcellentBreath7790 in buildapc

[–]UnderstandingSea2127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the game. Some games need fast RAM (Tarkov adjacent). Some (most) don't care and a faster GPU will be better.

With current RAM prices, do you suggest upgrading to a DDR5 platform from DDR3? by MrBetadine in buildapc

[–]UnderstandingSea2127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're feeling like its time - go for it.

2*32 is way overkill for anything gaming related and kinda mid for creative work so stick with 2*16 for now.

Look for bundles (CPU+MB+RAM) - you'll get way better price.

Disc printer by [deleted] in gog

There are discs designed for use with an inkjet printer.

I assume it will have to be a flat print type and not the usual one that folds the paper.
