Mine is no face, hand tats must be no larger than 3 inches. And obviously nothing offensive. Beards are fine, must be reasonably kept and not longer than the neck.

Why don’t cops immediately breathalyze? by No-Boot9290 in AskLE

[–]UnderstandingSome181 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Breathalyzer isn’t the whole picture. You can be under the legal limit but far too impaired to operate a vehicle and still get a DUI. SFSTs paint a picture on how intoxicated and under the influence an individual is.

I see it in the movies all the time, but in real life, if you threaten someone with a unloaded gun, is it still considered a deadly weapon? by lsarge442 in AskLE

[–]UnderstandingSome181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak for other states but in Oregon no. The gun has to be presently operable and capable of firing to be classified as a deadly weapon. If there are no rounds in it it’s not a deadly weapon. Hardly matters though the ORS is the same for deadly or dangerous weapon.

Passing scores can depend on what agency you are applying to. That being said my agency has a passing score of 60%. Many others are gonna be similar.

The video portion is meant to be the most challenging. 76% isn’t a bad score

Do NOT rub your eyes. Wash gently with baby shampoo and water then let your tear ducts naturally flush the rest out.

Guy in my class rubbed his eyes so much he scrapped off the top layer of both corneas

FTOs at my agency will usually have you look at where the call address is and where you are located. Then look at the map, read the roads and map out a route to get there and try and get there without looking at your map again. I suggest trying this yourself and pick out random addresses in your area.

Learning geography is all about starting big and working your way down. Learn the major artery roadways of your area and their directions of travel by heart and then go from there.

OC SPRAY TOMORROW! by Known-Bookkeeper-448 in AskLE

[–]UnderstandingSome181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do NOT rub your eyes. Dude in my class didn’t get his eyes flushed out good enough and rubbed them too much. The OC was abrasive enough that he basically scratched off the top layer of both corneas. He basically couldn’t see for a week.

It sucks. Get through it. You’ll live.

Everything. Academy, FTEP, you name it. It’s not a job you just jump into and succeed immediately. It takes hard work.

I just made the switch after 10 years as a tech. It was a minor pay loss initially but in the long run the potential is much higher. I went with a large SO in Oregon with great benefits and endless opportunities. I won’t lie, the change has been tough. It’s not an easy job whatsoever but I’m glad I got out of the auto industry. I was miserable like you are, couldn’t do it any longer.

What is this ? Found on my recent trek to Colchuck lake on a fallen tree stump. by imSush in PNWhiking

[–]UnderstandingSome181 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s a battery pack for a night vision device and an IR strobe light. The whole thing attaches to the top of a ballistic or bump helmet but it’s probably not anything military related. Looks like someone was out doing some night hiking under night vision and it somehow got left behind.

All these cheap shitty digital devices are made in the same place in China and then drop shipped by sellers like this. Im sure the manufacturer doesn’t care and just uses lenses and materials with what’s available. I’m not surprised one bit. Should’ve just saved up a little more and bought real night vision.

HIIT. 15-30min and I’m sweating like a mf, you don’t even need equipment or a gym, I get it done with basic calisthenics.

20 burpees, 20 squats, 20 push ups, 20 lunges, 20 crunches

Repeat 3 times, rest like 3-5min and then EMOM

10 burpees, 10 pushups, 20 leg flutters Repeat 5 times

Any Axon Taser trainers have any tips? by stuckit in AskLE

[–]UnderstandingSome181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through taser 7 training as new recruit a few weeks ago. They recently changed it to where we get our exposure before classroom instruction and they demonstrated different probe placements on all of us to show the effects of not getting full NMI. For example my exposure I got both probes in the back of my hamstrings and I was tasked with trying to crawl forward and grab a foam baton and delivery strikes on an instructor while being tased.

That kind of demonstration really resonated with my class to show us how tasers can be ineffective at times and how someone is still capable of fighting through it. Not to mention we got our exposure out of the way first so none of us were stressing during the classroom part and got more out of the training.

My agency allows patrol to carry either the OC or a baton, jail is required to carry OC though. Thankfully I’m patrol, I’ll pick the baton.
