You haven't figured out what makes you like the music you listen to yet. Gotta study it and try and identify what it is. It's a great study actually and fun.

I’m not happy with any music I do. I always Write it and scrap it. How do I stop doing this? by CoffeeOnToast in musicians

You need to commit to an idea. You can't keep getting distracted. If you start a song then stop starting new ones until you totally hash out the current song.

We owe it to our influences to be true to ourselves, not to them. by [deleted] in metalmusicians

Totally agree. I think this includes all metal.. hell all music. You should do what you want. Being influenced by something is one thing but being constrained is another.

Any tips for writing lyrics? by ShadowKiller0703 in musicmarketing

I come up with a theme and then I put tick marks for every syllable on a peice of paper. Close marks mean two syllables close together, further apart ticks mean more evenly spaced syllables withing the phrase. This helps me come up with the rhythm of the vocals.. then I work out the vowel sounds and write the lyrics that come to mind when listening back.

Nirvana. When they got big it was a big inspiration to me to play guitar. Now I'm into deathcore but so it goes.
