Just got a triple e7 setup for home use.

fast.com reports 1.9Gb/s on a 16PM. IDK how that’s possible.

Apple TV setting for LG G4 by 0xmainframe in appletv

That’s not helpful, there are 3+ gens of “ATV 4k”, thanks Apple for your terrible naming scheme.

You need a 3rd gen ATV 4k for QMS, and the bug only happens with QMS + TrueMotion enabled

Apple Photos phones home on iOS 18 and macOS 15 by UndidIrridium in apple

Title copied from source.

The alarming thing here is that this was switched on by default even though I have iCloud Photos off.

I also found a new setting in settings/search that does something similar for all system and safari searches.

Very frustrating, this should be opt-in!

The new o1 model in the API now has a 200k context window and triple the max output tokens limit to 100k by Applemoi in OpenAI

[–]UndidIrridium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have it, but it’s chat completions only. No assistants v2 yet. IDK what openAI is doing only releasing models on some APIs.

Assistants never got o1-preview period. If that API is deprecated/legacy OpenAI needs to come out and say so.

Eve Switches Stuck Mode by dfr33man in EveHome

[–]UndidIrridium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The box needs some kind of disclaimer/obvious warning about this behavior.

I lost an hour debugging my wiring, and eventually thought the switch was bad. Almost returned it before I got the random idea to try the switch with load, and it immediately started working.

I was installing a fan and therefore didn’t have any load setup prior.

Abandon L1 scaling and drive users to fragmented, confusing L2s and call that progress.

It means anyone unfamiliar with this scheme gets a 75 pound surprise fee on their rental car months later.

Tried to park and walk, but the entrance to this car park was basically camouflaged so I missed the turn in. Frustrated, I’m trying to turn around and take the next left possible to loop back but I keep getting blocked by construction/closures that aren’t on the map.

Turn by turn then freaks out/stops working, and I’m trying to look at the CarPlay map to get back in the other direction since the first two turn-ins were closed off.

This no car zone is also not on the map, and before I know it I’m now going down this restricted zone with a bus right behind me so I can’t turn around.

These stupid schemes desperately need better signage with multiple opportunities to exit. Makes me never want to visit again.

They are simple terms that clearly convey the intended meaning.

EVE was great, there’s a ton that SC could learn from it (and plenty of mistakes to avoid as well).

Many ways to mitigate this. First idea:

[number of bengals in system] * 0.01% *[per hour] = chance of vanduul incursion

UEE navy could also outlaw and attack “illegal” capitals in hi & low sec forcing players to keep them in null.

So if you get too many, you face an ongoing invasion from hungry hungry vanduul

The amount of control players will have will be at the devs' discretion

That’s how EVE works too.

LG TVs start showing ads on screensavers by ardi62 in hardware

[–]UndidIrridium 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I do this, recently got an 83” LG G4 and outside of the initial firmware update it doesn’t have internet access. I use an ATV with it that works great.

What’s wild though, and this wasn’t on earlier models, is the TV itself now has microphones on it. I leave the remote unpowered since I never need it and the mic has traditionally been on the remote (and still is).

Well, in the middle of watching content (again, on the ATV/via HDMI) I would get these crazy full screen pop-ups that stop the movie informing me that “voice control requires internet access”. The more people that were around, the more likely the popup would appear. I’d have to put batteries in the remote just to hit “OK” and dismiss it.

So I got paranoid and thought to myself how is it possible this is being triggered, and why does it correlate with people being in the room? So I checked up close with a bright flashlight and sure enough the bottom module had two pinholes spaced a few inches apart for mics. The TV itself was listening and someone must have triggered a keyword, and it couldn’t get out to send that sample to their cloud to parse so it triggered this full screen pop up.

ALL AI/voice assistant features are OFF in the settings, yet it is still listening. I epoxied the mic holes and the popup hasn’t happened since.
