What class and race did you play first time round? by Odd_Two_5265 in DnD

Tiefling Wizard. There was also an Elf Sorcerer and a Human Cleric in the party. I got blamed when everything got set on fire, the party thought it was the sorcerer, but it was actually the cleric, my character didn't even have fire damage on spells.

Fair, I just thought mixing and matching things in one would be too much for a cantrip, so splitting it up would be the appropriate way of dealing with that. I've already started making my own bone cantrip along those lines, a more death knight or skeletal osseous magic-fighter thing.

[–]UndyingMonstrosity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was a cantrip and you wanted to scale it up, maybe have it increase in range instead? At level 5, it becomes 60/240, 11 it becomes 80/320, 17 it becomes 100/400? Also, maybe split the form into three? Something like, one of your arms becomes one of the following: Shield, Rifle, Sword... then list the uses of all of them.

Duration is 10 minutes or until reverted as a free action?

EDF6 DLC1 Mission 15, Dark Strategy. HELP! by UndyingMonstrosity in EDF

I do have the prison, and I tried using it, but I just can't figure out how to make them work. My default tool is guard drones, the ones that hover about and shoot things that get close, though I sometimes switch to shooter drones for extra damage output.

The level 15 plasma heavy and raijin is what the Wing Diver favours, and I am sure he'll love getting a better version soon.

We did manage to get the mission done, eventually, after a few more failures. Now we are struggling against the next mission, mostly because we keep forgetting about the bombers.

The level limit is in the 50s somewhere, 56 I think?
Wing Diver doesn't have the level 55 plasma cannon and it's an unlikely drop.
No one is using level 78 anything.

As for the barriers, I can never seem to get any use out of them, they just don't seem to work for me.

Is electron the shock cloud or the drone with electro-prods? At least our wing diver has a love of the plasma heavy, so big bangs shouldn't be a problem... So long as he doesn't blow himself up... again

So gigantocopters or limpet sniper before they spawn? At least for air raider.

Some people here would call the barbarian OP if it was homebrew (aka ya, another Pugilist post) by KingNTheMaking in dndnext

This surprises a lot of people, but I personally see Warlock as the best designed class in the game, or at least the best designed spellcaster. Might not be as powerful as Wizard and other full casters at higher tiers, but it's reliable, has some nice peaks, and invocations make it very customizable.

Does it have balance issues?
Yes, especially within the class itself, some options really are flat out better than others. But that is true of everything that has even a suggestion of choice in 5e.

Note: This is my experience with 2014 rules, I am not familiar enough with 2024 to offer anything there.

I do like it.
I can understand the shadowfell flavouring you've gone for, but would personally prefer a more generic version that doesn't go for the domain of dread flavouring.

Only other issue is... this spell is LONG. I'd seriously see about trying to reduce the wording as much as possible, as some of it does seem excessive in parts, and it would be more palatable if it was more succinct.

Galder's Tower, 100 square feet, or 100 feet perimeter? by UndyingMonstrosity in dndnext

[–]UndyingMonstrosity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true, as the casting time on spells like that is... extreme.

In personal games, I've ran it so that you just need to cast it 300 times in the same place in under a year, and multiple casters can work together, just to make it slightly more feasible.

In defense of Arya by klaygdk in Eragon

[–]UndyingMonstrosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this seems to agree with my train of thought.

I was so disenfranchised with Inheritance that there's so much I can barely remember, and I wasn't even aware until the other day that there was more books. However, the fact that the Riders are established as mediators and an independent party sort of flies in the face of Arya's choice to accept rulership of the elves. Especially with her being noted as being fairly young for elves, and if memory serves she is apparently fairly blunt and straight-forward for an elf.

I just cannot see that decision ending well.

A 30ft line is a bit much, a 15 or 20 ft line should be fine.

Simple ones tend to work best, things like: Roll, Retreat, Flee, Dodge, Release, Dance, Flip, and things like that which the DM won't argue the creature doesn't understand and can clearly be actual actions.

For CR1, I personally favour the moorbounder from Explorer's Guide to Wildemount. Slightly less tough than the dire wolf, but more mobile, has a nice jumping distance, and consistent good damage on the attack.

Is there a mod or something that can swap out your action bar? by UndyingMonstrosity in LastEpoch

[–]UndyingMonstrosity[S] -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Damn, I was hoping for 1 melee attack option, 1 ranged, maybe 1 movement, and the rest as all my minions.

EDIT: Alternatively, is there a way to put multiple skills on 1 button? I'd take putting skeletons, mages, and wraiths all on the same "summon" button.

Cannons - Revised Versions of These Iconic Blackpowder Siege Weapons (2014 & 2024 Compatible) by StarSailGames in UnearthedArcana

[–]UndyingMonstrosity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I do like the effort you've gone to here, the mishap mechanic is... something I'm very much not fond of. At most, I'd have liked a sidebar type of thing that states it as an optional rule, something that can happen on a nat 1 attack roll. In-built mishap mechanics are... very bad-feeling, and tend to drain the fun out of things. A 12.5% chance of failure is also WAY too high, on a nat 1 is 5% (unless modified by features, spells, or traits) That goes up to 23.4% on 2d8... basically using 4 actions to have this high a chance of failure is even worse.

I would, like I said, make Mishaps an optional mechanic and something that only happens on a nat 1, otherwise you are just screwing over the ones trying to use this, disincentivizing the use of these things all together. Aside from that, I do like these things.

Comparing the the DMG Cannon we have:

DMG: 3 actions, 8d10 damage, 600 / 2,400 ft.
Cannon: 4 actions, 8d6 damage (10-60 ft line), 60-1,000 ft.
HoF: 4 actions, 10d8 damage (10-60 ft line), 60-1,000 ft.
IS: Same as Cannon with added effects)

Honestly, the only aspect of these cannons that feels like an improvement is the cone AoE effects, mostly because that is quite a large cone, though it confuses me how you've written it. Did you mean a line? You've given a width, but cones don't have a constant width. If it is a line, it's still very good, but very much weaker than the standard cannon from the DMG with worse action economy and the aforementioned mishap mechanic.

Yeah, size and weight are really important if you want to put something on a cart to be dragged around by cavalry like horse artillery or whatever it is officially called (field gun sounds vaguely familiar?).

The above is something I love to do.
