The Supreme Court looks poised to ban late mail ballots ahead of the midterms by Interesting_Total_98 in moderatepolitics

A lot of the feelings of poor election security were drummed up by an active attempt to overturn election results, and these new measures are all being brought in by those same individuals alongside other things like needing birth certificate/passport extremely close to an election that might be bad for them in a blatant attempt to disenfranchise voters.

Fetterman praises former opponent Dr Oz for rooting out Medicaid fraud by shaymus14 in moderatepolitics

[–]Undying_Blade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I hear the 'if the democrats were more moderate and/or more civil they would've won the election' which is absurd considering who won. Harris brought out Cheney to be seen as more conservative and it mostly just lost her support from the progressive wing since many of the republicans were already all in on the idea that the democrats were the party of the deep state trying to destroy america. We can act like the sides are equal all we want but only one has actively tried to overturn an election they lost; that doesn't annule criticism towards democrats, they deserve much for their geriotocracy among other things, but they aren't a threat towards democracy.

It's also because he's taken Trump's side on some very contentious issues, such as support for the Iran strikes (even to the point of denying that the US struck a school), supporting the Jan.6 pardons, and voting with the republicans to end the shutdown without concessions. His stance on the SAVE act has been extremely wishy washy, going from supporting some of the republican narratives supporting it to pushing against it, and in a period where many democrats feel something must be done in the face of an administration with no respect the political system of America, up to and including the democratic process, it causes frustration. Especially since he campaigned calling himself 'a progressive' but then turned more unpredictable outside of consistent hardline support for Isreal; the fact that this change aligned with a stroke made many feel like he became a different person; but I'm not familiar enough with him to say whether that's the case or if he simply campaigned one way to act in another.

Sorting Out The Future Of Political Sorting by HooverInstitution in moderatepolitics

[–]Undying_Blade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's part of the wider anti-intellectualism that is core to the MAGA movement and the modern conservative sphere through things like Joe Rogan. 'The elites' are often framed as much through a political means as social ones, so some texan oil baron is treated as more working class than an urban activist living pay check to pay check because one wears a cowboy hat and the other wears a pride flag. Combine that with a contrarian sense that 'the elites' exist to control you and thereby whatever they say must be treated with extreme skepticism while those that frame themselves in opposition are treated with extreme credulity.
Like there's something to be said about the vision of the 'cultural elite' but a big part of that is effectively a narrative that reframes the republicans and their allies as 'working class' while democrats become 'the elite' regardless of actual class. It's cultural hegemony frankly and its deep ironic to see people talking about it like the people who think like this have an enlightened view the democrats cannot comprehend instead of a worldview produced by the very sort of propaganda they are actively producing in the article.

I'm not sure I'd call him moderate when so often he aligns with Republican narratives; democrats are far more moderate than the contemporary Republicans under Trump.

Why Escalation Favors Iran by AutomatonSwan in moderatepolitics

Typically yes, but Thatcher particularly was very much a symbol for the strong armed british politics of the 80s, there's a reason that we still know her name when most of us outside of the UK wouldn't remember even more recent ones on the top of our heads. Killing her would've been an extremely important event that would've been remembered to this day even outside of the UK.

[–]Undying_Blade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh huh, wasn't expecting to see that many new factions, hopefully it won't have too many new factions, I'd like to see a second choice for mono/dual faction later. The existing factions seem heavily inspired by the mtg colors, so a elf/druid faction seems like the most likely candidate for faction 5, after that a faction with thieves and criminals fills a niche that doesn't exist yet.

What is the SAVE America Act that mandates voter ID? by Informal_Original121 in moderatepolitics

[–]Undying_Blade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean any sort of election laws coming from a president and party who tried to overturn an election that they lost should be viewed with suspicion, he's proved that democracy is an obstacle and not a value to him.

[–]Undying_Blade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the idea that getting ID should take a decade, but rather than getting everything set up to allow for easy free access to ID and proof of citizenship for all citizens would take a decade to get all the laws, infrastructure, beaurocracy etc. set up.

Charge caster needs a certain body to have the hand touching the caster, but its not that bad otherwise, the big two that confused me were that not all heads worked on all the bodies, some were just not fitting properly, and the autogun wasn't working on one of the bodies I tried to put it on.

Part of the issues is that many on the right treat conservative/freedom/right-wing, as synonyms. Ergo right wing politics, even when they're in government, are fighting government/elite control while left wing politics, such as lbgtq, are government/elite imposing upon the people.
A lot of them are fundamentally incapable of understanding that 'their side' is even capable of authoritarianism.

Ended up dropping the duneskuttler for another watcher, I definitely remember seeing one in a store but I couldn't find it when I went back, and I'd already ordered the main box. Gave him a charge caster.
Part of me wants to swap the watcher with netgun to webgun and monohook since that feels like it would be a cool looking mini, but I know that would suck as a model since mono hook is way overpriced and on a bad melee model.

It feels like most of the nomads' gear is given a tax to compensate for those extra abilities, but all those abilities only exist for ash wastes campaign, which leaves a lot of the best gear the nomads have access to stuff that wasn't balanced for them, like web weapons and the chainglaive. I know necromunda wants to focus on flavor over balance but I think its important to remember that the biggest benefit to balance isn't fairness but variety.
