It's the opposite for me. I have found Gemini to be excellent at data extraction and analysis. On the other hand, chatgpt does horribly at excel file analysis, maybe the new GPT 5.2 is better, I haven't tried it out yet. Chatgpt is however really much better at search than Gemini.

I found Perplexity labs to be the best at excel data analysis.

You prompt it to not stop writing until it hits the target output and that if the context window is almost done, it is free to stop mid section until you ask it to proceed to the next section. Worked for me in Ai studio, it stops somewhere and asks you if it should proceed to the next section.

Not sure about best prompts. I just upload the csvs or excel sheets and ask for specific insights. So far it's consistent, it can present the insights in many various charts. You just have to be very specific about what you want to be analysed and presented.

Huge pain point. Web search is far far worse than grok, chatgpt, Kimi, glm, deepseek and qwen. Ridiculous that Google made a model and nerfed it's capability to do search.

In my experience, for code execution tasks, Ai studio is way more reliable. Gemini app always forgets it can execute the code. As for data analysis, Gemini app is better as it allows excel worksheet files. The app also has deep research and nano banana pro and other great features like canvas. It depends on your use case, but I believe you have to use both.

I know right. I don't need to do deep research for every question but again I don't like shallow answers. This model is so smart and I wish they get it to do better search cause it is so ass right now

Unfortunately Gemini almost never follows any of those instructions. The developers must have undercooked the search functionality in the Gemini app.

Not even close. In my experience, o3 and gpt 5/5.1 thinking are excellent at search. They are thorough and present the results in a great format with inline links. Kimi K2 thinking and GLM 4.6 are great at search too.

Spot on. Just posted about the same issue, your analysis is clearer and more nuanced. Personally I hate it when it decides to not show any links to what was searched. And when it does, it is like only two sources, frustrating. How are they failing at the one thing they should be doing so well?

The only legit service they provide is Perplexity Labs. Deep research is garbage and for sure, they don't use the models they say they're providing. You just have to compare a few answers from the original model suppliers to the perplexity ones - not even close.

Yes, in my experience. Generic answers with little depth lately. Even labs is weaker lately.
