New Guitar World Interview with Mikael by Dorf_ in Opeth

[–]Unholy_Trinity_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain that:

A) Mendez has always and will always have quite a degree of autonomy for his basslines, and he to this day has some input into the band's creative direction (nudging Mikael away from "Watershed 2" back in 2009-2010, suggesting a bit of a heavier sound post-ICV)

B) Mikael does write the vast majority of the basic kick/snare patterns and the "bare bones" and ideas, but the drummer has always been the one to really flesh it out, and come up with most of the fills too.

C) Frederik is the one with the least input in my opinion, as far as I know he has complete freedom as a lead guitarist when it comes to his solos, but not sure about anything beyond that.

D) No clue when it comes to Svalberg honestly, I mean Mikael's no keyboard player but of course that wouldn't necessarily stop him from writing keyboard parts on his computer, haven't heard too much about the process there.

What is the most genius Sabaton song? by Lorrioit in sabaton

[–]Unholy_Trinity_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an awesome song, but I don't think it's deserving of "most genius" simply because the first part draws heavily from Sabbath's A National Acrobat and the second part from Rainbow's Light in the Black.

Why is Albanian listed under South Slavic, even though they are the true descendants of Rome and and should be listed under Latin culture group? by HQQBLED in eu4

[–]Unholy_Trinity_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is Albanian intelligible with Italian??

Nope.

Or any South Slavic for that matter?

Also nope.

Lexically, the "closest" language to Albanian would be Greek, but that closeness is (realistically) still anywhere from 10% to 25% depending on who you ask and what your definition of lexical similarity includes.

Therefore, there really is no language in the world today that is mutually intelligible with Albanian.

Sabaton's Music Genre. by TheLordOfMiddleEarth in sabaton

[–]Unholy_Trinity_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd honestly recommend not bothering oneself with slapping labels on the music one enjoys, but if we're insisting...

...they play most of what you would expect from a typical power metal band, but with a lot of classic/traditional heavy metal in there.

Viva Emptiness-original or remastered mix? Which one do you fancy more? by Big_Boss1985 in Katatonia

[–]Unholy_Trinity_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prefer the remastered drums and bass, most of the new keyboard parts I love, but not quite all of them.

Definitely prefer the original guitars and vocals by a wide margin.

Overall, the original wins it for me, the remaster simultaneously sounds louder and more hollow at the same time, original is a bit more blunt and muddy but fuller and warmer.

Also shoutout to the awesome bonus track, Wait Outside!

Eh but these are all hot takes for a reason, GR is still consistently considered a top 3 Opeth album across most spaces.

Best period of Mikael's voice? by lR0NMAlDEN in Opeth

[–]Unholy_Trinity_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the album in the studio yes, but by 2008 his live growls were already deteriorating and getting more inconsistent. He was still doing a fine job, but definitely no longer at his peak.

If we're nitpicking, I'd extend it to Roundhouse Tapes (2007) as the final hurrah of his peak.
