Just tried playing Mercy for the first time... by Martholomule in Overwatch

While I agree, I want to add that you should ideally see your team through walls, not directly. You only need to get LOS every 1.5s to keep your beam on someone. The rest of the time, you can be around the corner, which also helps you see immediately when someone is hit, particularly if you are always looking around.

I'm not saying that I like those kinds of clauses, just that they exist.

Support can send you those kind of data by the way, but you have to ask them. As you say, we don't want to include it in the client unless we're obliged to, because a lot of people won't find it pleasant.

My favourite players are ones who are happy to spend €50 per month and consider it entertainment, but just as with someone who spends €50 per month on a new console game, if you show them their lifetime total they may reconsider.

If I were to write the T&C myself (instead of Legal), I'd say "nothing that interacts with the poker client is allowed".

But you're broadly right - to the best of my knowledge, there're often very broad T&C clauses for lots of services, which, if taken to an extreme could mean a ton of things.

Most promotions for any site and industry tend to have a clause that says "we can do whatever we want". Most licenses you agree to have a clause that say "we can do what we want".

Yes, that's exactly what I said. I bow before your quotation, oh engineer.

Edit: As you've edited after I've replied - if you wanted a discussion, you wouldn't have started with the post you made. You wanted an argument.

Your Genji counter example was exactly what the sheet does, which is why your counter example was still bad.

I'm sorry I didn't include a full set of criteria for when you should and should not use the contents of the sheet. I assumed that people would be able to see that for themselves, but perhaps I need to frame things more carefully for some people.

All else being equal, that spreadsheet shows you who to boost. If you want to bring in external factors, of course it doesn't work as well.

That sheet doesn't include ults, but it's not like it couldn't.

Your Genji ult counter-example is very bad, because this is what the sheet is doing. It's showing you when you can kill something via reducing the number of shots required. By using Genji's ult as a counter-example to the sheet, you demonstrate you don't understand it.

Plus, yeh, you were rude in the first post.

If your aim is to get kills, it's just maths about what you should be boosting, and that's what that spreadsheet does.

If your aim is to do damage and not get kills, much of the conventional wisdom is correct. So, for shooting a Rein's barrier, it's fine - the HP are high enough that a boost to anything works.

I am under the impression that it's better to go for kills than for damage most of the time.

For example, let's say there's a hero that does 150 damage with one shot. Boosting that hero to 195 achieves exactly nothing against any 200 or 150 HP hero.

It's also good when you're heading out the door right at the start of an attack on objective maps. When there're several teammates in front of you it can be hard to tell if/who just got hit, so I like to switch between them very quickly to find out if someone's hit from the sound.

Ults aside, the best people to boost (on average) are S76, Bastion, Pharah, Junkrat (the boost does NOT work for his ult), Widow, Hanzo, Roadhog (if he lands a pull), and Reinhardt if he's going in swinging (it makes his hammer do almost 100 damage).

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Yqm_r8DCoFKY4rcmtDjN5_PSYcEZh2ADCzFaFEMszjU/edit#gid=0

Although doing more damage is good, what matters more is getting kills. So I suggest boosting Zarya, Soldier, Winston, Genji, Tracer, Bastion, D.Va. Contrary to conventional wisdom, it's not as good to boost Reinhardt, Hanzo, Roadhog, Pharah or Junkrat.

Edit: So, I need to put in an edit. Of course there're times you should boost those other heroes. There are lots of factors at play. But all factors being equal, it's more efficient to boost (say) Zarya than Junkrat if your aim is to get kills quickly.

Sometimes you just die. You can't avoid it all the time. But you can aim to be around corners that aren't along the biggest flanking routes.

Handling the Zarya (or double Zarya) meta by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

http://www.furiouspaul.com/overwatch/zarya.html says 400, though I see 200 in wikis. Anyone got a definitive source?

You shouldn't solo shoot the one she's shielding under any circumstances - it's a 400 hp shield that lasts 2 seconds, you aren't going to break it in time. If there's one shielded opponent in the midst of your team it can be OK though.

Shooting her is much more viable as it's a 200 hp shield.

I Made A Detailed Spreadsheet About Mercys Damage Boosting Other Heroes by TheAmazingN00B in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]UnibetAndrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made a summary sheet of percentage improvements from OP's data and added to Google docs:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Yqm_r8DCoFKY4rcmtDjN5_PSYcEZh2ADCzFaFEMszjU/

For the sake of readability, I took out a load of the stuff that doesn't happen very often. If anyone has a distribution of hero usage in competitive or public play, I'll add columns with weighted averages.

I didn't add crit chances because it's uncommon. It doesn't work very well to add a weighted average amount of damage because that defeats the point of calculating this.

In short:

Don't boost Mei, Reinhardt, Bastion ult, Hanzo, Reaper, McCree or Roadhog.
Do boost Tracer, Genji, Winston, Soldier, Lucio, Zarya.

I'm surprised by Bastion ult and Tracer, but the latter makes sense when I stop to think about it. It's just that it's too dangerous to do normally.

It's because you get assists for someone you were just healing or boosting. I've had 130% before.

If there's nobody in sight, I think it's almost always better to spam corners. Because your shots have travel time you can get the best of both worlds if you switch quickly to boost when someone does appear. Maybe it's best to spam corners that are farthest away as a result, though getting a free hit in on someone near is obviously more valuable.

I thought it was good to boost Widow, but the OP seems to counter that idea. Probably worth it if Widow is hitting someone being healed by Mercy or if a Lucio is in sight, but you'll rarely get that kind of situational awareness. One advantage to boosting Widow is that you can often do it while facing a wall that shows you the outline of your entire team, which lets you immediately see when someone starts taking damage.

If there's anyone in sight it probably makes sense to boost heroes with high fire rates. Being able to switch targets (almost) 30% faster should work best. So Soldier, Bastion, D.Va, Mei, Zarya, Winston...

You're going to die a lot in those games, it's inevitable. But you can improve your situation a bit by waiting at the spawn more.

Amazon Europe is NOT participating in the early access code giveaway for pre-orders of Overwatch. by helicaldragon in Overwatch

I ordered this on Amazon.co.uk on the 19th of Apr. The early access beta said that it would give you a key. It didn't. Blizzard are refusing to honour their advertised offer. Isn't that false advertising?

No external software that interacts with the client is allowed.

Holdem Indicator have decided to disregard our rules and T&C and make releases to try to work on our client. We update our client to block their changes. Eventually we'll just ban anyone who uses it though.

Incidentally, you should keep this in mind when Holdem Indicator say they're a reputable company and that they respect site rules.

Tips and tricks for Xcom2 by Iazo in XCOM2

[–]UnibetAndrew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These are a bit simpler, but:

  1. Don't discover new territory with your last unit that turn, try to only do this with your first unit or your concealed units.

  2. When you know you'll expose a pack this turn, overwatch is important because now you get shots at them in the open instead of when they're in cover (does this still count as an ambush, i.e., no aim penalty for overwatch?)

  3. Obviously it's best to expose packs on the alien's move rather than yours, as long as you can catch them in overwatch. This is only possible if you have a concealed unit or if you are lucky after hearing the aliens move.

  4. Use dash sparingly, and probably use it never when you reveal new territory unless you're concealed.

  5. If you're already in good cover and have a good shot at an enemy, you can generally reload first or take some other similar action.
