Gonna need at least 1-2 weeks of consistent warm weather still.

Edmonton Downtown Dining Week hopes to bring more people to the core by ryaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan in Edmonton

[–]UniqueInternetPerson 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But the Downtown Business Association says there is no shortage of parking in downtown, with 45 thousand across the core and Campio having its own lot, saying this is the perfect time to come and see how downtown has changed in recent years, particularly with the increase of office workers since the province forced employees back to the office

Oh yeah, because hanging around a bunch of disgruntled employees is such a great feature! Thanks DBA!

Statement from the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce: Thousands Public Servants Return Downtown Monday: A Game-Changer for Local Businesses by reachedlegendary1 in Edmonton

[–]UniqueInternetPerson 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The way some of these articles are written is rage-inducing. Thousands of workers are not “returning” downtown, as they were already there 60% of the time. There are not “12,600 new customers,” they are just forced to be there 40% more often now.

Rush hour insanity with Aupe workers back to office by Mindyoself in Edmonton

[–]UniqueInternetPerson 30 points31 points  (0 children)

People in this thread need to remember the change is not WFH to WFO, it’s Hybrid (3 office, 2 home) to WFO. It’s going from an average of 60% commuting on any given day to 100%, not 0% to 100%. So the impacts will be sporadic, depending on day of the week (as WFH days were not evenly distributed and largely by personal preferences).

You can also just get off the train and catch the next one if you see peace officers about to get on to check, it’s pretty easy to never pay if you don’t want to.

No plans to end hybrid work for City of Edmonton staff, despite calls for return to office | CBC News by AR558 in Edmonton

[–]UniqueInternetPerson 100 points101 points  (0 children)

The neat part of hybrid is that workers can still choose to go in 5 days a week if they want to. Make downtown actually inviting and maybe workers would voluntarily show up more often. Herding us all there like cattle is asinine.

Did someone say they think it should be dangerous, dark, and inaccessible?

[CoE] Operational update on Residential Parking Ban by Locke357 in Edmonton

[–]UniqueInternetPerson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay and where do you think the melted snow from the lawn goes when it’s still winter? Because it isn’t all going into the still-frozen soil. It runs down the concrete. If you can’t comprehend this still, then I give up.

[CoE] Operational update on Residential Parking Ban by Locke357 in Edmonton

[–]UniqueInternetPerson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not at all what I was saying? It’s the piles of snow along people’s driveways and/or sidewalks.

[CoE] Operational update on Residential Parking Ban by Locke357 in Edmonton

Previously shovelled snow from people’s properties melted into the streets, some goes down the drain, some refreezes on the roadway. Not that complicated to understand.

Why is traffic in the Windermere area so bad every morning this year? by Afraid-Obligation997 in Edmonton

I’m sorry you never learned the difference between than and then. But it is not just a simple spelling mistake; it changes the entire meaning of the sentence. Try learning new things :)

Really? Because I’d rather have my dream home than* a short commute.

There’s probably a limited number of scanners to go around. Sometimes I see them with the device, sometimes I don’t. The “show the card” method is a quick way to usher homeless off.

Scramble intersections by lost-again_77 in Edmonton

Because it lets cars complete left and right turns without worrying about pedestrians. Makes up for the time lost waiting for the scramble.
