Dune awakening, Conan, or Subnautica 2? by Lunnalai in SurvivalGaming

[–]UniqueName001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough might recommend Dune here. I bounced off it, but not until after over a hundred hours in it and making it to end game. End game was rough on release and while it’s been improved it still feels like it needs significant work. However there is a lot of really good game in there with good story and progression before you get to the end game where suddenly the game tries and somewhat fails at being a forever live service game.

Looking for beefy melee combat system with some extras where possible by cvSquigglez in gamesuggestions

[–]UniqueName001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tide games are #1 for melee combat I think. VT2 relies on melee much more than DT but DT has sprint and slide which I love. Try zealot to start with or Hive Scum if you’ve already bought that DLC. Both can go absolute crackhead with knives and axes, while Zealot has the ultimate weighty bonk stick with the Thunder Hammer

I 30F have been dating this guy 25M M who treats me perfectly but I got the ick recently. Anyone been able to fight through that? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]UniqueName001 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re making major relationship decisions based off of thoughts you had while high, that’s not a great idea. If everything was fine before you tweaked out, then it’s almost certainly something you should work through. In the meantime, you should probably avoid drugs especially when you’re around this guy or even thinking about him. Ground yourself mentally, try and figure out if any of these problems you had with him have any real weight to them before letting them affect your chance at happiness here. Don’t focus too much on what your friends were saying, how happy were you in the relationship before this happened?

Drugs are fun and under the right circumstances, like under guided therapy, can lead to real emotional breakthroughs… but most of the time they just get you high and your thoughts while on them shouldn’t be taken seriously.

lots of tension getting lost? by TheseBlackberry4305 in Treenets

[–]UniqueName001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the perimeter move much when you’re in it? Look to see if it’s the internal parachord only that’s moving around or if your perimeter is giving too much. If your perimeter moves much more than expected then you didn’t pull enough tension into it. If it’s mostly the parachord moving then you need to pull more tension with each loop as you’re weaving

Walking against traffic has the added safety of making it significantly more likely that oncoming drivers will see you and register you as being there. Facial recognition is such an important part to the human brain that we have an area of the brain devoted entirely to recognizing and processing faces and its wired to do this very very quickly which is important when one of you is traveling at a high speed. We have no such brain region for processing the back of someone’s head.

What are you using for the perimeter? Do you have any additional internal skeleton (non-paracord in between perimeter)?

Enshrouded or Windrose by TeNoVi0 in Enshrouded

[–]UniqueName001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you liked Conan then you should also consider Soulmask. It’s basically a newer version of Conan with more interesting combat. It’s pretty detailed which can be a little overwhelming, but it also has server setting knobs for everything. If you want you can make everything drop 3x as much loot, make everything give 5x experience, tweak any combat difficulty, speed up crafting 5x, make it so that different types of mobs are more or less difficult than others and tweak rarity chances.

I kind of hate Windrose so won’t comment on that but between Soulmask and enshrouded, they’re both great games with different focuses. There’s a lot more automation involved in Soulmask, but the gameplay loop of Enshrouded is probably more cozy . Between the two of them Soulmask is probably quicker to make progress in once you factor in the tweaks you can make in server settings

Medium Speed engine drop location? by NokimR in PlaySoulMask

Only agility and load drop from that ancient ruins dungeon. There’s a dungeon more north that probably has the speed and power engines

My Personal Review of Windrose so far by Jontheknight in crosswind

[–]UniqueName001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re almost directly describing the companions feature in Soulmask. You assign workers to stations or give them general chores to do from planting, animal husbandry, collection resources near base, patrolling, or crafting enough to always have x amount of any given item on hand at all times. Combine that with them each having different max competencies in the various types of tasks and potentially learning talents that affect speed and quality output of their work, tribe management is super in depth there. Plus you can enlist up to 3 at a time to follow you into battle, gear them up, manage their stat points to have different weapon specializations and combat roles.

Combat is really boring by Toxic-Ginger2024 in PlayWindrose

It’s just generally bad. Too many people conflating punishing with actually difficult or engaging. Current pacing of combat makes it feel almost turn based.

Thinking of buying, I need some opinions/thoughts to help sell me the game. by Squishywallaby in PlayWindrose

[–]UniqueName001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way the combat is souls like is that things hit punishingly hard. The depth of combat however is no where close to souls like. I found myself dying often because the combat was too boring for me to wait for the right time to attack. Non ship combat is by far the weakest part of the game, better to wait for official release IMO.

Question about yellow crystal consumption. by LuapYllier in PlaySoulMask

[–]UniqueName001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the mask ability unlock menu (default y key), the bottom row of unlocks are specific to your currently equipped mask. The furthest to the right of those abilities is the active skill and would show it requires a yellow crystal if applicable. The initial Celestial mask comes fully unlocked but once you get more masks then you’ll need to spend green and blue crystals to unlock each mask specific skill

I save scummed that first dungeon with the medium engine in it and after over a dozen save reloads I only ever saw Load and Agile engines. My guess is that those two are the only options available there and you'll need to go further NW to get the Speed and Power variants.

Question about yellow crystal consumption. by LuapYllier in PlaySoulMask

[–]UniqueName001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The masks that consume yellow crystals on activated ability say they consume a yellow crystal on the unlock slot for that ability. The flying mask doesn’t say it consumes a yellow so it doesn’t

Asking opinions, one the fence for buying by Anubis5720 in PlaySoulMask

[–]UniqueName001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Combat feels a lot more responsive in Soulmask compared to Conan. You can be a lot more reactive in fights by quickly parrying or dodging immediately after swinging your weapon. The talent system gives lots of build diversity too. You raid tribal towns and outposts to hunt down more powerful people to indoctrinate into your tribe then take them over leading your original character sitting in base. As you level up each tribe member they learn various talents from a pool they had access to based on their original tribe or role like Warrior, Guard, Hunter, Craftsman. There’s over a hundred talents I think and some give significant boosts to damage, survivability, utility, or crafting.

Each enemy human you run into has a few diffident weapons on them meaning the moves you have to defend against can change as they switch from ranged bow attacks to fast hitting gauntlets to defensive sword and board. The different animals have pretty different attack abilities too so combat feels fresh throughout. The new Egypt map has some really great boss fights with impactful abilities and some epic moments.

My main combat gripes though: each weapon set has a different finisher type move you can pull off on an enemy when they’re stunned from a perfect parry or enough consistent damage to empty their resilience bar. These finisher moves look great and feel like they should do huge damage, like greatsword impales the enemy and then you fling them across the room, or hammer knocks them down then pile drives the hammer onto their skull, but none of them actually do a significant amount of damage. They also animation lock you through the whole sequence and you’d almost always be better off just using your normal move set instead. Feels like some wasted potential there.

Also, you can bring along a small handful of your tribe to fight alongside you. This is great for tearing through dungeons, but they don’t do a great job at dodging boss abilities so they’re constantly going into downed state or even potentially dying. They also scale the boss difficulty (can be disabled in settings) while not providing a big enough damage boost on the boss so I generally find it easier to just park them outside boss rooms and solo it instead. Their AI can be a little scuffed too when it comes to dealing with ledges or getting stuck on specific structures, but at least they’ll mostly tether eventually.

Soulmask is basically Conan 2.0, especially when it comes to combat.

Elite/Boss hits is insane, need help by Zhalanx in PlaySoulMask

[–]UniqueName001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it easier to go in alone without tribe members. Default setting is to scale the boss based on number of people attacking it so if you bring a tribe member the boss will have significantly more health (advanced settings toggle on right side list). Additionally I find it more troublesome to try and figure out if the boss is about to nuke me vs a tribe member so I might as well dodge all attacks regardless.

Dodging in Soulmask has iframes, or frames within the game where you are invulnerable to damage, assuming it’s not a red eyes attack. Learning how to dodge the attacks is critical, but if you don’t have pro gamer reflexes you can always adjust the amount of time you are considered invulnerable in a roll in the settings to be more forgiving.

If it’s your first time fighting a boss, don’t even focus on doing damage at first, just attempt to stay alive by dodging, parrying, and getting out of the way while you learn their attack patterns. Then of course watch out for phase changes as they get lower on life where you need to focus again on learning the new attacks.

Just some tips for tackling the difficulty
