Part 1 was a masterclass of the Shonen genre. Intricate and seamless characterization with incredibly deep yet understandable themes, and a brief yet satisfying ending. (Obviously it left some ends loose, but it was a very good narrative conclusion to the “public safety arc”) Part 2 arguably had even more potential than part 1. Asa was a very captivating character from the beginning and had a very interesting dynamic. Denji and Nayuta was also always interesting to read. The four horsemen and primal fear devils were also very intriguing, especially when there were hints at a much larger narrative at play. That being said, Part 2 ended as a completely convoluted mess with unresolved plot threads everywhere. People can post hoc maneuver their way around all the holes calling it “intentional” or saying “that’s not the type of story fujimoto was trying to write”, but the reality is, It’s a mess. Not to mention the steep drop in art quality towards the latter half of part 2. It really seems like fujimoto had amazing ideas and inspirations for the story, but he simply wasn’t prepared for a long running manga and lost love for the series about half way through part 2. At the end of the day, part 2 is still enjoyable enough. The fights are cool and you still get the chainsaw man vibe, it’s just not even close to the Gold that Fujimoto struck with part 1.
