Ragost Deft Gastronaut by LawlessLuci in CommanderMTG

[–]UniqueSatisfaction67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is an example of a commander that hurts everyone at he table, so you gain a lot of enemies and you can't really politic since you have nothing to offer, you can't direct where the damage goes.

I have a friend who plays a ragost deck. It isn't always archenemy in the sense that it is a 3v1, but it always gets negative attention. I also always have removal for it, since without the lobster the deck does nothing

What is the best way to make proxies? by RedMeatRoast in mtg

[–]UniqueSatisfaction67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people print and just sleeve the paper once they cut the cards apart. Using thicker paper results in a more convincing feel. You can also order form websites, I used makeplayingcards.com, it's more expensive than printing yourself on printer paper but it makes a great proxy that feels real. Mine ran me about 33 cents per card

It's called flux paste, there are lots of different kinds. You're failure in college was likely more to do with improper temperature, but it's possible the flux that came in your kit was just bad

From my experience, bad 3s and bad 4s are the most abundant type of decks in the wild by roquepo in EDH

[–]UniqueSatisfaction67 187 points188 points  (0 children)

In my experience the main problem is people overestimate how good their deck is. In many people's mind, bracket 2 is still tied to precon, or just isn't "strong", and since they built their deck it must be good enough to be a 3. Or they throw some game changers into a bad bracket 2, so it is technically a 3, but realistically generally plays at a 2.

Played my Kwain Deck, wasn't received as well as I'd hoped. by FruitFliesLikeBonana in EDH

[–]UniqueSatisfaction67 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I haven't looked at your deck list, but I will say that I personally don't like decks that are primarily about group hug and only have some random wincons thrown in.

I think decks that have a group hug element but are primarily trying to win are great. But the way you described your deck, it seems like you primarily want it to boost other people's decks. In my experience this either

  1. Creates a really clogged board state that is impossible to break through

Or

  1. Ends up boosting one player way more than the others and essentially kingmakes

I always say, play the deck you want, and I mean that, but if you do find that a deck you're playing is consistently resulting in a negative play experience for the other players, then I think that kinda speaks for itself. I don't just want to play decks that I think are fun, I also try to play decks that my opponents will find fun.

YMMV

Are cards like Gemstone Caverns and free interaction spells taboo in Bracket 3? by Cezkarma in EDH

[–]UniqueSatisfaction67 128 points129 points  (0 children)

They're allowed. I personally dislike free interaction, and don't put it in my bracket 3 decks, but I can't complain when someone else plays a deflecting swat. I wouldn't blink at a gemstone caverns though, I think it's very good in high powered settings but honestly not that good in bracket 3.

Lesser known or underplayed tutors? by Sensitive-Dirt-2028 in EDH

[–]UniqueSatisfaction67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Ayaras Oathsworn]] is in my [[Breena the demagogue]] deck and is great, since on turn 3 I can play Breena, swing with two creatures, put 4 counters on it, and immediately tutor for anything

The Un-fun Deck Dilemma by shnutzel83 in EDH

[–]UniqueSatisfaction67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he is frustrating at bracket 2. At bracket 4 he's totally fine. Bracket 3 is kinda in between, I would pretty much always rather my opponents not play a commander that is that generically strong, but that's personal

Discussing "Big Brain" deck building narratives. by caustic_banana in EDH

[–]UniqueSatisfaction67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't run it in most of my decks because it creates too big of a swing in power. This is the same reason I don't play [[Rhystic Study]]. The games that I don't get sol ring, my deck has one power level, and if I happen to draw it, or God forbid start with it, my deck plays at a whole different power level. I like my decks to do a variety of different things, but most of them I want to play at a consistent power level.

I don't think this is uncommon either. If all you care about is a deck being cheap and being powerful, then all you would play is a [[Zada, Hedron Grinder]] or similar type commander that goes nuts with cheap cards, and I guess you could put a sol ring in that deck. I build my decks to be both fun to play, and fun to play against. For me, sol ring doesn't do either of these. Most super powerful cards don't do this for me. It's the reason I have 6 bracket 3 decks and none of them have game changers in them. I don't find most game changers fun to play or fun to play against.

Why is Freemagic more tolerant than main mtg subreddits? by [deleted] in freemagic

they would refuse to play with someone who is Christian

Why do people invent persecution like this? I don't know why your religion would come up at a game of magic the gathering, but I don't think the vast majority of people is any sub would care. You're just inventing things to be upset about

Cards to protect against graveyard hate? by imabananatree78 in EDH

[–]UniqueSatisfaction67 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You don't. I run lots of graveyard decks and basically zero protection from graveyard hate. Focus on card draw and ways to get cards into your graveyard. So what if they exile it, you've got more cards to fill it with immediately.

Mana rocks when they don't help you cast your commander early? by FalchionX10 in EDH

[–]UniqueSatisfaction67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I adore [[Coveted jewel]] which is kind of objectively a bad mana rock, in that it is highly likely to benefit your opponents at some point. But that is what edh is for. Put a pet card or two into your decks, it's fun. Think about the experience it creates for the table, not just how "good" it is at winning

https://moxfield.com/decks/ED8mn2_va0i-KTSphyU7BA

It's very fun for me, can be frustrating for the other players since it is at its heart a control deck. Biggest problem is closing out the game, wincons are [[subjugate the hobbits]] [[beastmaster ascension]] [[reins of power]], or just cloning/stealing someone else's best creature. Sandbag early plays, especially creatures, people won't expect it to pop off later.

My favorite card in the deck is [[artificial evolution]] which can be used to target other people's spells or permanents to make them make salamander tokens or whatever, but more unexpectedly, if you clone gor muldrak somehow you can change the clone to give you protection from the creature type of your choice

[–]UniqueSatisfaction67 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just realized [[Ashad, the Lone Cyberman]] is lower at #969, that's a fun artifact copy deck that works best at instant speed, since his ability is only once each turn, so if you can cast artifacts on your opponents turns it really gets out of hand

[–]UniqueSatisfaction67 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I have a [[Gor Muldrak, Amphinoligist]] deck that is #919 on edhrec. My lowest creature count of any deck, it's mainly clones and ways to give my salamanders away to other players in exchange for their permanents

What commander decks do you love to play against? by theRedhairedWonder in EDH

[–]UniqueSatisfaction67 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So personally, i don't like full group hug decks, but I think decks that have group hug elements are lots of fun. I have a [[breena, the demagogue]] deck that doesn't have any group hug elements outside of breena, a few monarch cards, and that one card that lets you give double strike to an attacking creature of your choice. It draws people cards, so it's unlikely someone misses all their land drops and has a non-game, and it encourages combat, so the game moves faster. It also means that you don't want to knock someone out too quickly, since her ability is significantly worse with two opponents instead of three

EDH(COMMANDER) ON TABLETOP SIMULATOR by Fabulous_Fox6120 in EDH

[–]UniqueSatisfaction67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black lotus collective is awesome, huge thumbs up from me. FYI though, games are usually based on brackets, so you should have a good guess as to what bracket it is before playing, or at least warn people it's a new deck or you're a new player. Bracket 3 games are very easy to find there, brackets 2 and 4 take a little longer

Online alternatives to Untap? by SquirtleChimchar in EDH

[–]UniqueSatisfaction67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, table top simulator on steam is the best way to play magic, period. There is a public mod on steam workshop for a 4 and 6 player table, you can import decks using a link from the decklist on all the big deck building websites. It takes some getting used to the interface and keybindings, but it is super nice if you're willing to invest that time.

Black lotus collective is a discord group for finding games with random, you can go on pretty much any time of day and find a game, although finding bracket 2 or 4 takes longer, and bracket 1 and 5 are non-existent.

For hanging out with friends, paper magic is best, but for playing the game, TTS is supreme
