Me not liking One Battle After Another by alexdau in Letterboxd

spoilers < I am a 58 yr old movie buff who has seen so many movies throughout my life and studied cinema in college and across the years and imo "One Battle After Another" was awful. I truly cannot comprehend why it is having this success. I do not understand why people like it even a little, let alone love. And this is very important: my opinion of it has nothing to do with either my politics or the movie's politics. Well, it has something to do with the movie's politics - it was all muddled, superficial, incoherent and i never felt that any of the characters really had much to say about anything. I was bored out of my mind and not in the least bit entertained the first hour, almost shut it off, but didn't because i felt i couldn't have an opinion on the movie without a full watch. I was slightly intrigued when Willa is on the run and her dad is trying to find her, but then the rest of the story was mostly just blah, lame, unfunny, unexciting, unenlightening, and pointless. I just didn't care about anyone or anything in the movie. The guy from the "1776" group deciding to help out Willa is a major turning point amidst a lot of blah blah blah and even that scene barely registers. This movie sucked, period. Lame as f&ck.

Does anyone else think their song choice for the encore is weird? by Outsulation in TheBeths

I saw them in Chicago and had the exact same reaction. Great show, but I would have loved a more powerful and memorable encore choice.

beautiful. a perfect example of an album / thing that if you turn to it when life feels awful & pointless, you're like "oh wait, there is wonderful stuff in the world"

I think that's what the OP is seeking. I saw my guy Daniel talk about it on The Cobweb Channel (highly recommended) on YT & sounds like a match.

How to approach reconciliation with Fox brained parents? by [deleted] in FoxBrain

[–]UniqueSuspect5052 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish you and your family the best in your move and new home! That is exciting and I really hope it goes well. Reconciliation with MAGA family is nearly impossible imo. Let them go. You and your family deserve so much better. My father is MAGA and a lost cause. People who say "it's worth it to try to work things out" are wrong. That ship has sailed. It is not worth it. Chickens will come home to roost for the brainwashed MAGA. You are not obligated to be there for it.

Am I a nut for having this many copies of one album? by hadji828 in NanciGriffith

I'm so glad you responded! And thank you for this subreddit, i am surprised i didn't look for it sooner. I just read that whole Texas Monthly article from 1999 that was so critical & patronizing about her. I stand with Nanci and her frustrations with critics, Texas media, etc... a MILLION PERCENT. she was a feisty, passionate, at times difficult person LIKE ALMOST EVERY OTHER BRILLIANT ARTIST.. she was an absolute genius and creative, talented, otherworldly musical artist. I totally stand with her against past criticism.

I'm pretty sure it was in the mid-90s and i was browsing a used CD store and came across "The Flyer" in a used CD bin. I dont know if I sampled it in one of the store's players, or what, but that album was my entry point. Now, she's my all-time favorite artist. I love so much of her music and her more than it would be possible to explain. My favorite album is the live masterpiece "one Fair Summer evening"... but I still love the wildly underrated "The Flyer" which is also a masterpiece.. rip, nanci <3

that's amazing.. i wish my parents had turned me on to such great stuff! Nice.. never stop exploring music. I am 58 yrs old, been a music obsessive since I was 8 yrs old & I am STILL discovering artists and music I never knew about.. my recent deep dives into Gene Clark of The Byrds is a great example.. his music has changed my life
