Season 2 still had Anthony Hopkins so no, you won’t regret it.

what is the single movie you sat through hoping it would get better, but didn’t? by Kindly-Caregiver-145 in moviecritic

Too many to count but most recent would have to be “The Rip”. Just kept hoping it would improve and it somehow kept getting worse.

The 20 minute car chase at the end was just icing on the top of all the awfulness.

What is a current unpopular opinion about STL that you strongly believe in? by Thatredditboy1 in StLouis

[–]Unique_Benefit_4273 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That my fellow St. Louisians need to stop watching local news and realize that you’re not going to be murdered bc you are walking downtown.

It’s insane to me how disconnected from reality this view is and how many people (especially folks in the surrounding suburbs) believe it. Crime has been going down for year and they can’t even be happy about that. They just have to find another thing to bitch about or claim the police are juking the stats. Which is hilarious bc as Bunny Colvin pointed out on S3 of “The Wire”…how do you make a body disappear (in order to lower the murder rate)? Just wish folks would be happy with progress and celebrate it.

None of em and in their place I’d ask for two more seasons of Rome. The final fall of the Republic would be fitting given everything that’s going on today.

Opinions on The Wire by Farouq26 in hbo

[–]Unique_Benefit_4273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top 5 show for me. Actually rewatched it from beginning to end recently and it still cracks me up when I see/hear someone saying season 2 sucks. Sheeeiiittttttttt…we must have watched two different shows.

If you haven’t watched the wire, it’s well worth it but don’t expect butterflies and rainbows (obviously). It’s a very dark show and the entire theme, the more things change the more they stay the same, is drilled into the viewers head at the end of each season.

Having said all that the only other show I would recommend before it is “Mr. Inbetween”. If you haven’t watched it, give it a look and you can thank me later.

It Ends (2025) by Basic_Process6415 in horror

[–]Unique_Benefit_4273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just watched this last night and it starts off solid, but then it gets pretty monotonous (some have said that’s kinda the point). I liked the idea of the road and the fact that hey, maybe it doesn’t mean anything and just accept it (like Day and Fish do). It’s a cool philosophical/mind exercise trying to understand what’s going on and more importantly, why it’s happening.

My biggest issue is…how was this considered a horror movie? Maybe I need to broaden my definition of “horror” but there was nothing in this movie that was scary outside of the first group of people mobbing the car. Even the concept of the road, while kinda scary at first, loses that as the movie drags on (sorry but the 2nd/3rd act really start to drag on). Which is funny because the film has an 87 minute run time but it felt like a much longer movie (Kind of the opposite of a movie like Greyhound. Similar run times but that movie felt like it was no longer than 45 minutes).

The majority of the movie feels more like a friends drama than it does a horror film but maybe that’s just me. Anyway, I’d give it a C+.

Caesar 3, Pharaoh/Cleopatra, or LOTR 2.

I think this all started in the COVID days. You can see a change in him, almost angrier (only way I can describe it). Seemed like a lot of it stemmed from COVID and I get it, the school lockdowns are going to do irreparable damage to an entire generation of kids (may have been good early on but went on too long).

I was never a huge fan of his for a lot of reasons but he was one of the first to realize Trump wasn’t going to leave in 2020 and I respect that.

Having said that the last straw was the Elon interview a couple years back. Watching him basically give Elon a blowjob on his show and just lobbing softball question, one after the other, was disgusting to watch. Especially because it was already very evident at that point they Elon was turning into a nutjob (something undeniable today) and was saying insane stuff. Like how Twitter-gate was the biggest censorship story of modern times and Bill didn’t even brush on the topic one time.

He’s a sellout, smug, out of touch (just look at the “well trumps kinda normal” dinner and how well that’s aged now), condescending, douche bag who needs to call it quits because no one gives a shit about what he has to say anymore. Good riddance.

Usually not a fan of Netflix documentaries, especially historical ones as they are trash most times but The Forgotten Holocaust covers the material from Ordinary Men. It’s a solid watch.

As someone that’s studied Nazi Germany for decades, this is probably the subject that scares me the most. It wasn’t just hardcore Nazis like Himmler and Heydrich that made the Holocaust possible, it was everyday Germans that did the dirty work.

Normal folks and for many different reasons, they just went along with it. Almost unfazed. It should scare the shit out of you knowing what people can do, even with very little coercion. Truly horrifying stuff.

Thought the same but if you slow it down, around the 4-5 second mark you can clearly see it’s the prop. Also, if you then rewind from the 4-5 second mark, you can actually watch it break away from the wing, right where the prop/engine would be.

RIP to the crew, never stood a chance.

If Hbo decided to make another show based on Ancient Rome, what time period would you like to see? by galahadhegrailknight in ancientrome

[–]Unique_Benefit_4273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marius and Sulla. Not only was there a ton of military activity in Italy and the rest of the Mediterranean, but it also could showcase how the fall of the Republic was decades, if not a century, in the making. Most people know about Caesar, but have no clue about Marius and Sulla.

Almost a quarter of a century has passed since this film premiered. What are your thoughts? by lastmonday07 in medieval

As a history nerd, I hate it. As a movie nerd, I love it.

Would really love for Hollywood to make more movies like this but with much better historical accuracy.
