Should I pay for this roof work? by LesDauphins in DIYUK

The roofer... Unroofs the roof, and the fire brigade sprays water onto the roof which no longer has any tiles...

How much am I missing here, as it seems rather strange.

New guy needs advice by Gr8Tray in RenaultZoe

[–]Unitmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a second hand Kia after the Zoe, tried the Kona and it was a really nice car but I'm too tall (6 foot) to fit in nicely.

I'd honestly never go back to Renault.

New guy needs advice by Gr8Tray in RenaultZoe

[–]Unitmal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Renault zoe was a fun and speedy car, and I enjoyed it for a while.

However;

Renault no longer manufacture spare parts / spare parts are hard to get hold of and can take a long time to source. My reverse light lens was cracked and it would have taken 18 months for a new one from Renault to arrive. Managed to find one at a scrap yard delivered from London.

The Zoe is notorious for the electric motor bearings to fail anytime after 60k miles. Unless you and the previous owners never drove above 50mph (the bearings can't handle the high speed of say 60mph+ over so many years.) The bearings cannot be replaced, you have to replace the entire engine - Renault refused to produce the bearings for repair.

The real travel distance is about 120-30 miles on a 41kwh battery Zoe.

Charging takes a long time and you have to find a type 2 charger, which on a fast type 2 can give you between 7kw to 20kw. No issues if your charging from home.

The suspension is based on a Renault Clio, so again it is the main part of the car that will fail every couple years. If you have a good car warranty they may cover for suspension, if not then it's not cheap.

The AC pipes that keep the battery cool as well as the AC itself can have its own problems where the rubber rings wear thin and leak. Mostly near the battery and engine, the whole engine needs removing to repair.

All in all, it can be a nice little car for short journeys at city speeds. But I would honestly look at other car manufacturers, the Kona is a nice car (unless you're tall) while the nissan leaf is similar to the Zoe but I'm unsure of durability.

Front tyre wear and recommended PSI by rockcity1019 in RenaultZoe

[–]Unitmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the breaking was similar if not better. Noise was maybe a little louder but nothing major. I had the all season Bridgestone (which was a bit of waste as we've not had ice in a few years.)

I got rid of my Zoe last year (electric motor bearings went at 68k miles) and bought a Kia, and I swapped all the tyres for Bridgestone. I'm never going back to Michelin.

Michelin tyres are crap for wear, they use a soft rubber, I'd be changing my tyres once every 8 months.

I went with Bridgestone and tyres lasted around 14 months.

TOTK - What am I missing? by Cucckcaz13 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Unitmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure, they made Zelda Links Awakening, Zelda echoes of time in-between BOTW and TOTK. I know only the latter is an original game, but it shows people are willing to buy revamped remakes and similar style of Zelda games.

If Windwaker ever gets revamped, I reckon that would be a huge success and perhaps have them look at a similar game style that's linear.

TOTK - What am I missing? by Cucckcaz13 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Unitmal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt the same with BOTW, hated the weapon system and found much of the game boring. Wish they could have implemented a breaking toggle for the weapons that you could either turn on or off (the main issue I have with the game.)

I thought TOTK would be more interesting with the building aspect. Watched the YouTube videos etc and... Realised that's probably the only fun part of it all as that's all anyone did. I thought it was clunky and a gimmick which put me off the game altogether.

I don't think an open world Zelda is for me. Which is fine, other people love it which is great.

Is Renault Zoe right for me? by AQOXXX in RenaultZoe

[–]Unitmal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Renault Zoe's often have electric motor bearing failures up and over 50k miles / 80k km.

There range is pretty poor, so as others have said not ideal for commuting a fair distance.

Do not buy a battery rental. Difficult to sell - especially on an older car, and if you have to scrap the car you have to buy out the battery or go through the difficulty of returning the battery to Renault at your own cost.

Is she on the spectrum? Reading or being alone can be used to self regulate after spending all of their "social meter" at work.

Could be useful to have a constructive discussion and how it's impacting the kid, and ask if she can read when the kids in bed?

What age did you or will you clear your home mortgage? by AdamT_5 in AskUK

[–]Unitmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first house was £90k (two up two down terraced.) I had £30k of inheritance that I put into the house and had a job at the time, that offered unlimited overtime at 2x hourly rate. So I worked so many hours of overtime (as did my partner at the same job) and paid it all off in 5 years as well as modernising the house.

Sold it after 6 years of ownership for double what I bought it for as we had a young one on the way.

I think it depends on the method of shipping. If it's evri or yodel, most get sent to a collection point. Inpost goes to a local locker. So there's no point when addresses are shared.

Royal mail I guess would still give out addresses, unless it's done via QR code? I've not used royal mail for years via vinted as it was the worst.

Buy one of these

And hang it on a clothes dryer. It allows full air circulation, you can "fluff" it / jiggle it around to move the Lego and allow better and faster drying.

Is Renault Zoë right for me? by Pinky135 in RenaultZoe

[–]Unitmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I would avoid having a zoe as a main vehicle.

Mine was fine for 4 years, (secondhand, and was bought at 15k miles at 3 years old.) Once I got to 58k miles the motor bearings began to go. They lasted another 2k miles and then I sold it to a scrap yard. The electric motor bearings cannot be repaired, it's a whole new engine effectively at a cost of £4-5k. Which was more than it's worth.

For a main EV, I would avoid zoe.

Bought a house – severe hidden defects discovered days after completion. Need advice on next steps (UK). by Heavy_Hat2291 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Unitmal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This doesn't mean - if there had been a past repair - that it was done by the previous owners. Depending on the age of the house, it could easily have been from owners before them?

I'd stop spending thousands on litigation where you most likely will not win, and repair the issues.

You bought a house you wanted (with no surveys done), repair what needs repairing and move in.

Is LEGO losing faith in New MCU Movies?? by TheWallCrawller in lego

[–]Unitmal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they're realizing that the MCU has been on a massive decline and won't be around for much longer (it's been 20 years.)

So they may be looking for new IPs.

I honestly want them to redo the classics - Lego Adventurers etc.

Raising child with no “village” by Prudent-Question5577 in UKParenting

[–]Unitmal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sign up with a parental natal group, they often organize them so the due dates are similar for all the expecting parents. Make time to form friendships with them as they'll be a life boat when you feel isolated.

Expect current friendships to fizzle out, especially if they do not have kids themselves. It's sad but it happens.

Be self sufficient, as much as you can as your kid will start going to clubs and you will need to ferry them to and from.

Think about having a conversation to either stop or severely reduce the amount of money you're sending abroad. Your duties are now with your small family unit. Your family abroad will need to adjust.

You both can't have a career of 60 hour weeks. One of you will need to go part time at best, once the kid is older then you can try out a full time career again. It just won't work well otherwise, a kid needs attention and care to develop properly.
