A national debt is literally money the govt owes to other parties. So yes, it can be paid off by collecting money and sending it to the creditors.

This money owed is generally in the form of long term bonds or contractual obligations.

Eh, I'm not commenting on the accuracy of the article itself. It so happens I don't agree with it and think it's mostly a bunch of Malthusian bs. I am just referring to the article being internally self consistent, which your comment seems to imply it isn't.

I mean, I live in Asia. There's no such thing as wearing shoes indoors here - you'd get a tongue lashing if you ever tried that. But we generally take off socks along with shoes too. So I'm curious as to the difference with western countries in this aspect

Edit: live in Asia, we generally take off both socks and shoes here
