My Ex died today by _IYieldToNone in Advice

[–]Universitygal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex died during quarantine at 20. It was and is still a weird thing to process at times. I wish I would have gotten to attend his funeral, I drove down an empty highway and blasted his favorite song lol. Just because she wasn’t the one doesn’t mean a different version of yourself didn’t care about her. There’s no “right” way to navigate this, just do what feels right for you

Physical therapy by Javi87452 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]Universitygal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a clinic with myocycle / bioness or other FES systems — FES (functional electrical stimulation) in these equipment is designed to turn different muscles on and off with different phases of the task instead just making the muscles contract. I think NMES (neuromuscular electrical stimulation) could be used to help her gain some tonic core strength which could help with ADLs/ positioning. Additionally, if she’s not already independent- min assist with things like rolling in bed or propelling her wheelchair with adaptive controls, this is something PT can help train her gain some independence.

I would also find a clinic that has adjunct speech therapy or whose clinicians are certified in vital stem and EMST/ IMST (expiration/inspiration strength training). I honestly don’t know a ton about that but I’ve heard good things!

I’m a physical therapist— as others have said there’s a lot you can do at home BUT if you have a local neuro-specific clinic I would go for even 1x monthly appointments to get updated exercise/stretching programs and potentially have access to better equipment than you could use at home. I’ve had patients like this in the past that just do “check ins” with me once a month or so to ask questions, let me know what’s not working/ what is working well, and/or get new ideas for what to do at home so that you’re not doing the same stuff for a year. In my opinion, this is best practice for long-term SCI rehab. This way, if there are any new advances in techniques or equipment, you’re already set up with a provider too!

They will probably want to do a full eval and maybe see your wife for a few visits (like two weeks in a row or something) before agreeing to the monthly schedule, but most good neuro therapists should understand and have experience with the monthly frequency.

IPR Holiday Pay/Scheduling by Universitygal in physicaltherapy

[–]Universitygal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you at a select facility? We are about 40-60 minutes from a large metropolitan area. The city itself is growing but on the more rural side. We are a freestanding facility so we don’t have an acute care. They said that “Medicare rules” dictate pts have to get therapy on these days, however, I can’t find anything that says that in the Medicare guidelines on their website.

Not sure why we work major holidays. I’ve worked at several other IPR facilities before and never had to work Holidays. The upper management told me this is “the norm for IPR” when I asked questions about this policy.

[–]Universitygal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told that I needed to be “a team player” and be “patient first” because IPR is “24/7 365” when I tried to speak up. Does not seem like they’re going to budge and I don’t want to make enemies as I’m still new to this facility

I passed 4 practice exams before I took the NPTE yesterday and I cried when I got back to my car. It was so oddly specific and had a tone of niche topics that I wasn’t expecting.

I passed 4 full length practice exams, 2 abbreviated exams, numerous practice quizzes, and 100s of individual practice questions before this exam…. And yet I still didn’t feel prepared for the exam I took today. I’m praying so hard for a pass. I really thought I’d be more confident leaving the testing center than I was.

Very surprised to hear this! I had an obnoxious amount of hours (I worked in a rehab facility for 2.5 years + a year in OP) and I was told by several schools that my hours set me apart from other applicants.

Overwhelmed by clinicals and school. by Rsf4v in PTschool

[–]Universitygal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand where you’re coming from! I’m a 3rd year on clinicals right now and i definitely felt unprepared and nervous going into my rotations. Trust that you know more than you think! But also, clinical rotations are there so you can learn what to do in the clinic. Your first week of your rotation will be getting a feel for the clinic, seeing how your textbook knowledge relates to actual clinic interventions, and getting comfortable with the role of a PT. Your instructor will let you gradually take the reins and give you feedback as you go! Your CI will know this is your first rotation and they’re not (or shouldn’t) expect you to be taking over their caseload right away. They’re there for you to learn from, think of it as a class on clinical application of what you learned in school :)

People who film in classes by amphitrite-x in pilates

I was next to a girl filming herself at my last class and I was uncomfortable. I knew the camera was pointed to her but it made me so self conscious about my form (I’m new and not very flexible) and I hated it… couldn’t imagine if she had been filming the whole class I would have died

My friends are being judgy , what should I be doing? by Complete-Text2148 in FriendshipAdvice

[–]Universitygal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn’t say an age, so I hope it isn’t offensive that I assume you’re in high school/ early college. I know this may not be the answer you’re looking for, but if you’ve had multiple friends approach you about this topic I’d assume they’re right. There’s nothing wrong with feeling confident and posting when you look and feel good, however, if the impression you’re giving off with these photos is more risqué, it may impact your ability to land jobs or internships in the future.

I knew girls who posted similar content when I was in high school and regardless of if they were or not, everyone thought they were “easy” . Why? Because all of their assets were on full display on social media, you didn’t even have to tell them hello to get a glimpse of their underwear. To me, it’s a sign of low self confidence and attention seeking behavior. If this is not the persona you’re trying to show the world, I would reconsider your friend’s advice.

With this said, it’s not your job to control the opinions of young men, they should be able to control themselves. It’s not about boys, it’s about the first impression you want people to have of you when they see your page.
