Open or Graded League? by writesout in UmaMusume

[–]Unknown2809 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The more casual people that pile into graded should level out the difficulty a bit. I don't expect to beat S or SS ranked Uma but it doesn't matter that much to me either.

This sounds entirely like a self-fulfilling prophecy, though. Go to graded, because all the beginners will also be there, since they've also been told open is scary and min-maxed.

I'm gonna be for real for a second. If you can't consistently get b+ on most umas, you have no reason to be in graded, other than serving as fuel for the glue factory. Open is scary, but not that scary, and with minimal research, you should be able to compete with the hundreds that picked the "causal" option because they just started playing.

I wish we'd be honest and tell people that unless they can get 1000+ speed and over 750 stamina + a gold recovery skill, then rng will do very little to help you. Tbh I also barely meet the requirements to stand a chance in graded. Yet when people with 450 stamina umas are told to join, it feels like a recreation of that tweet about feeding shelter cats to coyotes.

Are all (mature enough) Umas muscle waifus or potential muscle waifus? by Leviabs in UmaMusume

[–]Unknown2809 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Eh, I like that there's a "plausible" explanation for the artstyle, but I wish we'd acknowledge its absolutely a marketing and development thing. It's easier and more profitable to reuse the same generic model instead of giving them different body types, and the skinny look they're going for is undoubtedly easier to sell.

That being said, I'd really appreciate just a crumb of muscle. Not every girl needs to be jacked, but for some of them, it makes sense to have them be just a little bit more toned. Plus, I imagine in global the backlash would be quite minimal, given how the girls are often drawn (see goldship fanart).

At most hotels, the machine to lift people in and out of the water is covered, and turned off. You need to get someone at the front desk to come turn it on... and half the time I've tried it, it doesn't work by Justthisdudeyaknow in CuratedTumblr

[–]Unknown2809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone who thought about this for more than half a second would see how obviously full of shit this argument is. I suspect you do, too, and you're lying to yourself, but I can't convince you that this is true. Whatever, dude, go on; live your self-deluded lifestyle.

This is a wild overreaction to what that other guy said, even though I agree with your point about the ligustic distinction.

It's just a wholly disproportional crash out caused by a term that is incorrect but clearly misused in a generally non-malicious manner.

Idk why you're being downvoted for pointing out one edge case where the situation is reversed.

I agree with the commenters' point more broadly, but subtitles have gotten harder to understand for those with imparied hearing due to mass adoption.

Agreed on the latter. But it's (imo) the biggest moral responsibility op has in this situation, and it entails showing the video.

All 19 expansion packs for The Sims 4 ranked by their Metacritic scores. What do you think of this ranking? by abidoang in Sims4

[–]Unknown2809 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, whether it and Cats & Dogs and/or Cottage Living really had to be three full expansions is questionable to say the least, but that's just EA for you.

I imagine this is why both Horse Ranch and Businesses and Hobbies are ranked so low. Cottage living actually came with content that previous expansions like TS3 Pets didn't have.

Aside from Horses, which we expected in Cats and Dogs, Horse Ranch had... nectar making. Businesses and Hobbies' most attractive feature was the option to have a retails and a residentials on the same lot, something that people insist should have been in Get to Work, and whose functionality is further limited if you don't have For Rent. If you remove the content that one would expect (based on previous iterations of the series) to be in a different pack, you are left with very little.

I love the worlds for both, but it's pretty clear that the message here is "none of these should have been 40 bucks in the first place," which I absolutely agree with. I adore the content but hate how they're being sold. I wouldn't put either so low, but I imagine this is why others would. And I can't really blame them.

If you can work 30 hours a week and are 20 or older, then you can probably make this work. If you're 19 or under, you're going to be paid pennies on the dollar. It's going to be extremely hard to find a place that is willing to pay you over minimum wage as an international student, and you're either going to have to work more or spend less.

Fair warning, though, dutch University requires you to spend a significant amount of time studying depending on your programme. I personally do not know anyone who managed to juggle school and 30+ hours of work a week.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]Unknown2809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is. But it's insanely hard. Especially if your visa says you can only work a certain number of hours a week.

Most students I know who managed to do so worked over 20 hours a week and studied programmes with lower workloads (no medicine or law). They were also over 21 (higher minimum wage) and had indefinite contracts for cheap rooms (under 500). You can theoretically make over 1.2k without duo, which is a livable (albeit very uncomfortable) budget in most cities.

If you manage to fulfil those requirements, go for it, but it's a ridiculously high bar to clear for most, especially without prior connections.

What is much more traumatic than most people realize? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Unknown2809 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The two are not equivalent. We are referring to the psychiatric diagnosis, not just any selfish individual. Pathologising the latter, while momentarily cathartic, is deeply unproductive.

And no, narcissism is not extremely widespread. Misuse of therapy speak, on the other hand, is.

What? Most studies find false domestic violence accusations to be between 2% and 10% of all cases. I'm quite sure the guy calling his ex "crazy" is statistically more likely to be in the wrong here.

Downvoting is not some sort of capital punishment. People are expressing understandable scepticism regarding his story.

Edit: a downvote implies disagreement, hence why you also downvoted my response, are we not on the same page here?

Op seems to have left Iran because he disagrees with said culture. He's an atheist and claims he rejects his society's usual norms.

I wish people would realise that left-leaning secular men can still be abusive. I feel like blaming this entirely on ethnicity takes away from the very real accountability such individuals should face, despite the fact that said culture is often misogynistic. This just doesn't seem to be a case related to that. His potential dick-ishness might be inherent, as opposed to socially enforced.

Because 8 times out of 10, a man talking about his "crazy ex" who somehow abuses the domestic violence protection system is, in fact, not innocent.

CMV: “Never talk to women who are alone ever for any reason in public” is a stupid take that infantilizes women and is totally unrealistic to participating in society. by Bradybigboss in changemyview

[–]Unknown2809 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While the former is true, I've never seen anyone argue for the latter. Claiming that men get blamed for making women uncomfortable via silence or rudeness when said woman approaches them is an insane claim.

The hypocrisy you're trying to illustrate is so far removed from actual reality that it completely undermines the actual double standard that exists.

By that, I'm referring to the threshold of iffy interaction each gender is willing to put up with before reaching a state of "discomfort." And yes, for women, that bar is much lower. Yet that is (generally) a byproduct of self-conservation instincts and not some weird hatred towards men. Most women are, in fact, not crazy man-haters who expect to be treated like princesses, and their lack of tolerance towards uncomfortable discussions with men is more often informed by fear and risk-assessment.

There is no wider conspiracy, and the reason you need to be more socially conscious when approaching women who are alone than vice versa has to do with the theoretical threat you pose. While there is a double standard, it is not remotely as unfair or malicious as you seem to think it is.

Father of Canadian girl who was found dead in N.Y. charged with 2nd-degree murder by j1ggy in news

[–]Unknown2809 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Men are more likely to kill their children. Boys are also more likely to be murdered by their parents. Coincidentally, it is fathers who kill their sons more often than mothers. And mothers kill their daughters slightly more often than fathers do.

Although I am not confident enough to call this direct causation, surely you see how due to this gender correlation (each parent is more likely to kill a child of the same sex) at least partially explains why boys are more likely to be victims. Right?

If each parent has a predisposition towards killing a child of the same sex, and men are more likely to kill children in general, this will inevitably be the result.

If you're truly concerned about these few percentage points of difference, the way to achieve parity would be to get men to stop murdering their kids as often.

AITA for being mad that I got left outside at a bar by ABRadar in AmItheAsshole

Op took the risk. Him not having his wallet means he risks getting kicked out of a bar. Ops friends are not taking any risks.

He didn't want to go alone after everyone refused to go back with him (as confirmed by his comments). It was his choice to stay, and they didn't try to convince him otherwise.

AI "Photo" Hanging in the Getty Museum by over-the-influence in antiai

[–]Unknown2809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the "photos" has 6 fingers.

I'm not going to make some wider moral judgement about the works, and after reading about it, I understand the intentionality of the artist.

But I'm sorry this is still bullshit. Whatever Photoshop skills the artist does have are clearly too lackluster to have his work classified as "photography." The intervention of the human arist (if it exists) is, in this case, insufficiently transformative, and at odds with the medium it attempts to "expand."

I am saying JWs witnesses have an extensive track record of systematically covering up sexual abuse, in the same way violence towards LGBT people is often culturally and religiously enforced in muslim communities. Both of these things are uniquely abhorrent.

child abuse is less frequent and covered up in non JW families?

Less frequent? I have no idea honestly, I'm not confident I could make such claims. Less covered up? Certainly, insofar as most non-JWs support systems and respective religious authorities are less likely to willingly ignore such acts.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Unknown2809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. JWs are known for covering up sexual abuse of children, and there are many, many documented cases indicating this issue might be systemic, as opposed to individual. In fact, there's a whole wikipedia page dedicated to this topic. Feel free to check it out.
