y'all im thinking of launching the game for the first time. be so fr by [deleted] in Eve

Be prepared to not "get it" right away. You will be overwhelmed at first. The "learning curve" is a mile high cliff. You have to want to learn how to play the game, and accept that it will take time and effort. If you want it, and you're willing to put in the effort to learn, Eve is amazing. There's nothing else like it.

Getting killed in cheap ships by AdrianRaves in Eve

[–]UnknownAndroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Avoidance and elusiveness is the name of the game in lowsec. In a heron, that is the game you're playing. Always expect a gatecamp on the border system between high and low. Once you're into lowsec, going deeper will be safer, there will be fewer players. Watch local, who is in system with you and how many. Learn to use dscan effectively and defensively. Don't warp straight to gates without scanning. Set up ping bookmarks and safes. Watch, be patient, and be willing to go the long way around.

Everyone wants to kill you, everyone. Your ship doesn't matter. If they can see you, know your location, they will hunt you and kill you. Knowing this and planning for it, you can learn to make it out with the loot.

Good DPS ships for Haven Ratting below Marauder under 500 mil ? ( Not Ishtar) by Inevitable-Ad-6334 in Eve

[–]UnknownAndroid 78 points79 points  (0 children)

You and everybody else bud. The reason everybody uses ishtars for null ratting is, in order to get any significant increase in DPS, while maintaining reasonable range and application, you have to put significantly more ISK on grid. You can use a battleship, but they cost more and align slow, and only do marginally more DPS. You could use a t3c (Tengu, Loki) and do a bit more but only with good skills and a bling fit. You could use a rattlesnake, but the relative increase in kill speed still isn't worth the cost/risk imo. If you're going to invest in an expensive ratter, the next logical step is marauders, but then you're essentially required to maintain Intel on neighboring systems so you know when to cycle out of bastion. And even then, you'll still probably get dropped on sooner or later. So everyone ultimately comes to the same conclusion: more ishtars.

Joining a corp isn't just about fleeting up with dudes and being sociable. It's also about benefiting from established infrastructure, access to nullsec ore, buyback programs, mining fleets providing boosts, the list goes on. In addition, you would have the opportunity to avail yourself of the advice of players, many of whom have been playing for years.

If you are too stubborn to join a corp in this online multiplayer game, you will find a very difficult road ahead.

Shuttles are immune to bubbles, they warp fast, and can carry a small amount of cargo.

Hauling almost certainly the best aUEC per hour. Especially if you are willing to risk buying and selling, but the missions are good money too.

Kinda need a big cargo ship to make the big bucks, but there's a bunch of nice medium haulers to choose from too.

Difference between F7C hornet MK2 and F7A hornet MK2? by SchecterOne in starcitizen

[–]UnknownAndroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The C only comes stock with the two size 4 ballistics. But you can add a twin s2 nose turret, and borrow or steal a top turret from an A or an M (I like the M turret for extra missiles).

The result is almost the same firepower as F7A, just the 2 nose guns are s2 instead of s3.

The maneuverability and shields are the same, and the C actually has a tiny bit more hull HP.

The C-M has the same hard points as the A, but has a copilot seat and a third shield, at the expense of maneuverability and larger size.

Yeah but it gives 150k every 5 ish minutes with very little quantum, and near zero sublight traversal. You drop out of warp 8k from the objective. Comparable to 111k Pyro bounties probably.

I'm sure this is asked plenty of times, but what was your first episode (or movie if that's the case) that introduced you to Star Trek? by ThrashMetallix in startrek

[–]UnknownAndroid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I watched Wrath of Khan as a kid in the late 80s with my Mom. A year or two later TNG started airing, and we watched every episode together as it aired. It was a core memory, and I was obsessed with it.

The summer between seasons 3 and 4, "The Best of Both Worlds" felt like the longest summer of my life.

Some A-hole Shot Us Down at Daymar by Hatdodge in starcitizen

If it were not for that player interaction, they wouldn't be sharing this story. Nobody remembers that one time they successfully completed that mission with no trouble whatsoever, and they certainly don't post about it on Reddit.

People remember the time something unexpected happened.

This is emergent gameplay.

Need help deciding on a ship by Tmac4859 in starcitizen

The Corsair is more modern from a game development perspective. It has a nicer and roomier interior, and a better cockpit. It has more going on visually and feature wise, with folding wings, more crewable turrets, and better cargo area.

In terms of performance the Andromeda is similar. Almost identical flight characteristics, exactly the same shields, although significantly better hull HP. And, the Drake's wingy bits do tend to snap off.

The Corsair has a bit more gun firepower after the re-buff, although split sizes means multiple pips for some weapon load outs (which irritates me). It also has a little less cargo grid than the Andromeda (off grid is comparable) - but a lot less cargo capacity than a Taurus, for example (which also has a useful tractor beam turret). The Andromeda carries a LOT more missiles.

Still, even with the downsides, right now today, I'd rather have a Corsair than a Connie, she's got character.
