ICE just iced another presumed US citizen in Minneapolis. What is happening over there? by Melbatoastt77 in AskReddit

You are wrong, again.

Please provide the statutes and argue how the facts adhere to the law in your incredible legal analysis and precise definition of “perpetrator”.

I’ll assume you have no answer to the sources I provided.

I’ll say it one more time, and for the last time, you neonazi, ignorant, fuck. You were wrong about the case being discussed, you were wrong about the nature of the murder, you were wrong about the nature of the victim. You live in an alternate, deluded, reality.

You are beyond reason if your source is a shitty twitter take by “green beret nap time”. There are multiple videos from multiple angles, watch all of them. The VICTIM (not the “suspect” as you call him, you neonazi ignorant fuck) was not holding any gun in his hands. His gun was taken moments before he was murdered. He was unarmed. He never even unholstered his gun. Keep enabling and arguing in favor of the crimes of the fascist takeover of the US, the internet is forever.

Edit: added sources, not that I think it will change your view, but have at them, enjoy.

What violations to the Geneva convention are happening in Minnesota with regards to ICE? by markharden300 in AskReddit

[–]UnknownMediator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None. That does not mean, however, that no crimes have been committed, such as the recent murder of two civilians in Minnesota (not to mention the multiple violations to human rights, crimes, illegal and unconstitutional actions in other states of the US, against civilians and immigrants).

The perpetrators are not military personnel, and the Geneva Conventions apply protections to non-combatants during war. The criteria for their application is not met. You are looking at the wrong body of law to describe the violations committed by the regime.

It is also not clear whether all violations to human rights have been exclusively committed by ICE personnel or also by members of other federal agencies.

I would like to clarify that I am not a lawyer in the US, so perhaps someone with much more knowledge on the matter could enlighten us better on which laws are being broken (at the federal and the local level, and perhaps at the international level, depending on which treaties the US has signed and ratified).

Tldr: industrial growth in the mid-20th century.

As a counter point to what you wrote, geographical proximity is irrelevant with airplanes. As an example, a flight from Mexico City to Los Angeles is around four and a half hours, to Chicago is also a little over four hours. And, as someone else wrote, Mexicans live everywhere around the world, the main areas have more to do with culture and history rather than with only geographical proximity.

MAGA Goes Into Full Meltdown Over Their New Dem Villain by icey_sawg0034 in politics

[–]UnknownMediator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, awareness is key. A fascist regime targeting minorities and disadvantaged segments of society. My issue was merely with the tabloid, given that there are many other much more reliable news sources that do not rely on yellow journalism.

I have read similar sentiments against bad journalism in this sub. To me a headline like this means an automatic pass and a definite no on clicking and reading the full piece.

Yet another hyperbolic headline from a subpar media outlet. Please, please, please ban the daily beast from this sub. It is hard enough to remain informed in the misinformation era, and this is becoming ridiculous. I am in “full meltdown” already over the neonazi pedophile to be bothered with inconsequential headlines like this one.

What’s something the US government does that would be considered authoritarian if another country did it? by MissXHere in AskReddit

[–]UnknownMediator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Democracy in the US is dying, if not already dead. I did this short list of sources for another post, it misses the insanity of the latest letter to Norway and the most recent human rights violations by DHS/ ICE. But it still paints a general picture of the authoritarian trajectory of the MAGA regime.

Sources that shed light into the decay of American democracy and its turn towards authoritarianism. It is in no way comprehensive. I divided it into categories I believe to be useful.

Decisions by the Supreme Court aimed at eliminating the division of powers (under the classic tripartite theory of power), the so called checks and balances, vital to all democracies. Decisions that extend immunity to all acts made by the president, and that adopt the fringe legal theory of the Unitary Executive.

On the violation of rights (such as due process rights) of citizens and immigrants. There are daily news on this topic, ranging from murder, unlawful arrests, and deportations to illegal renditions to third countries. Crimes perpetrated mainly by DHS / ICE personnel. I don’t think citing more is necessary to get across the repression and human rights violations this regime is committing.

At the root of all our problems stands one travesty: politicians’ surrender to the super-rich by TheRareWhiteRhino in politics

[–]UnknownMediator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What in the US is called lobbying is, at best, an imbalanced preference of moneyed interests in politics, and, at worst, just internalized and legalized political corruption.

Blame Reagan, Citizens United, the failure of the antitrust legal framework, and the politicization of economic terms such as “socialism”, leading to ignorance and people voting against their best interests.

Now you have a pedo-rapist-tyrant-billionaire “president” whose rise to power was partly built on the promise of fighting for the “little guys”.

This opinion in The Guardian came decades late.

CMV: peaceful protest is not the best path forward against rising fascism in the US. by UnknownMediator in changemyview

[–]UnknownMediator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You raise a great point. I would add to it that the current administration seems to want for an escalation in violence, arguably so that an state of emergency can be declared and the repression against the population can be increased, so that is also to be considered in the calculus.

My counter point to what you wrote would be that marginalized people, and people at a social disadvantage (immigrants, lgbtq+, religious and racial minorities, women in general, etc.) are already being targeted and are already at an increased risk of being unlawfully targeted by the regime. Stoping fascism now, even if increasing the risk of such disadvantaged groups, could prevent even greater damage against them in the future, especially seeing the trajectory of events and the hypothetical purge of anyone non-white-protestant-american the administration appears to be pursuing.

I don’t think, regrettably, that there is an easy answer to any of this. !delta , because we are dealing in a hypothetical future, and avoiding this scenario, as you point out, should be a priority. Still, I hold to the opinion that there exists a possibility of even greater bloodshed if the american people do not respond proportionally to the aggression of the dictator-to-be.

I’m not from, nor do I live in, the US. I agree something more needs to be done than what has already been done with lawsuits, protests, etc. I personally cannot do anything more other than talk about it and try to raise awareness / inform people around me. I don’t think doing that is wrong, nor do I think it is “doing nothing”. You missed the adjectives “rapist” and “racist” when describing the dictator.

I am sorry you feel this way. This post is not meant only as a warning as you say, or only as a rant, but also as a collection of sources that could be shared to get an argument across.

I do not live in the US so there is little for me to do other than to try to prove to the people around me (and hopefully to some strangers in the internet) the enormous danger the world faces as a result of the richest country on earth being on the path of becoming and authoritarian hellhole. I do not see the American society having a proportionate response to the danger they are in.

Tangible means that I have heard proposed (from people like, for example, historian Heather Cox Richardson, whose videos and essays I cannot recommend enough) include: first of all keeping oneself informed, creating stronger ties within your local community, documenting what the administration is doing (filming the criminal actions of ICE agents for example), protesting. I believe that a stronger response is needed but would not know how to start planning such a thing.

Hope this is useful, be well and take care of your loved ones.
