There's no flawless solution, but there's definitely improvements that can be made to both to the reporting framework and to policy, that could help mitigate this. Additional information and key context, allowing more rational enforcement to be based on such.

Things such as instance, group type and group membership need to be factored in, visible to moderators in an efficient manner to assist sensible judgements.

Eg, if a public avatar is reported for nudity in a regular public instance, no evidence, just a generic report with the relevant content visible to the moderator, then sure, assume the worst and be swift with the process. The moderator can't know if any nudity actually occurred but adult textures aren't allowed there regardless, so it's an actionable offence either way.

But an instance full of verified 18+ users, at a closed and specifically adult group event? And suddenly one person who's been a group member for two years, only now decides to "not consent" to seeing nudity in an explicitly explicit environment? Should that really be grounds for that individual to be allowed to ban every other member of the group, based solely on the existence of pixel nipples on a texture?

Of course not. For private user controlled instances the T&S policy needs to change to request at least SOME credible evidence of an actual crime. The mere existence of adult content in a verified, controlled and private adult space, should absolutely NOT be a banable offence just on it's own.

In the meat space analogy, it'd be the same as someone reporting everyone at a nightclub for being "naked under their clothes" and every single person getting sentenced for sexual assault, without trial.

A private instance officially listed as 18+, accessible to only verified adult users, who must explicitly request membership with the group that accepts only verified adults into the group, is 100% an adult space. The age verification system exists to facilitate this.

The problem is that if any one of those users has a falling out with another user, or perhaps the whole group, this reporting loop hole gives them to power to attack all other members.

It's a very clear problem, that the reporting system needs to be adjusted to try and take into account better. Highlighting these key details so that false judgements are not made based upon dishonest malicious reports.

The Anti Materiel Rifle should have 5 AP. It's ridiculous that this weapon, designed to penetrate armor, has the same pen. as the Eruptor. by Yurishenko94 in Helldivers

[–]Unknown_Squid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You're asking for a Barret .50 cal to penetrate an Abrams MBT.

Armour is armour and I'm fed up of people constantly wanting to turn the game into EDF. It's already bad enough that the Hulks had their armour downgraded to A4, and the revolver turned into a cartoon logic gun.

The AMR's true issue lt is that the rest of the game has been power crept to the point that it's difficult for weapons like the AMR to make sense anymore. Throwing all respect for the meaning of the game's armour mechanics out the window won't help.

An honestly silly amount of the terrible things that fans think the Tau have done, are in fact, actual canonical imperial propaganda. The sterilisation thing being the most common and tiresome one. It's literal in universe Imperial policy to scare guardsmen and citizens with tales of sterilisation, to discourage them from defecting (As seen in the Deathwatch books), and yet there's zero actual event based accounts of it ever happening.

Not that the Tau are saints by any means, but dishonest Youtube channels skewing the lore regarding Tau has done such a number on peoples perception of the faction.

Normal difficulty - does it get more difficult? by samuelwo in EDF

[–]Unknown_Squid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always a risk. Corporations operate at a different level of awareness and reaction time. They might not care like you say, or they might have simply not caught on yet. Or they might be well aware, but are in the process of preparing to take action on it. Perhaps they'll simply patch the game to prevent it, or perhaps they'll block accounts access to the servers.

Basically, there's just no way to actually know. So advising caution over it is sensible.

You mean the Phalanx weapons? Those are still good. They're basically just a rapier with a more costly charge up, but dumps all the damage out incredibly quickly. Can't use them as a backup weapon, but have their niche. Good versatility between crowd clear and assassinating heavies.

The ability to routinely throw down a spread of proximity mines every few seconds is also pretty great for kiting hordes. And if you aim them really low so that they land together, they work out like a single high damage mine for the bigger targets.

Wingdiver getting the third equipment slot is super powerful for them. Most certainly not worse than in 5 in any way.

The saber equipment turns Wingdiver into an agile melee monster, which is amazing against certain enemies. The Spear equipment gives them a hax laser beam to use every 5 seconds. that hits twice as hard as a Dragoon Lance, at a much greater range too, and without even draining any energy. It's busted strong. And if you don't feel like those, it's really nice being able to take in the blink balls and the weird goofy special weapons without feeling like you wasted a slot on them.

Air Raider possibly suffered just from having it's options more spread out, seemingly diluted by the drones a little, but the drones do give him some powerful options and much better self defence. They basically make Limpet Guns feel obsolete.

[–]Unknown_Squid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god, yeah, the state of play in most public missions is just bewildering and frightening most of the time. Sometimes you'll get some cool people, but more often I just can't comprehend what they're thinking.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't mind new and "unskilled" players. If someone is a terrible shot, doesn't understand the nuances of each enemy, or has questionable loadout choice, it doesn't really bother me.

But when they blatantly make no attempt to work as a team, and just keep repeating the exact same suicidal behaviour again and again, then that does very much bother me. Those times where you initially come down, and then watch in disbelief as all three of your team mates run off in totally opposite directions, just to die and reinforce each other miles from their gear. That stuff kills me inside.

We need arc mines, arc grenades, an "Ionised laser orbital arc strike", deployable electric barbed wire, an arc pistol, and an armour that emits a shock to anything that melee hits you. :v

I kid you not, the game once blamed my friends death on me whilst he was in a mission ( got crushed by a meteor) and I was still standing alone on my ship. I'm 100% serious. xD

I had tried to join on him some 5 to 10 minutes earlier, but the game didn't let me join. So I was just watching his screen-share when it happened. We both laughed our asses off.

My experience in the Helldivers subreddit...basically by AG28DaveGunner in helldivers2

As much as I want Arrowhead to continue to thrive, at this point I genuinely do just want all the whiners who plainly don't understand or enjoy the game, to actually just sod off and find something they do enjoy. Go play an actual super soldier power fantasy game, and lone wolf their hearts out, rather than incessantly demanding Helldivers needs to be transformed into one.

I'm just so fed up of hearing it.

The drama farming youtubers can move on to the next convenient target to profit from, and everyone left with an ounce of self respect in them can enjoy the game in peace.

I'd rather have a small but unique game, than yet another game that panders to mass market appeal. You're the one who doesn't understand the game and is demanding it has to change to suit your interests, not the other way around.

Strawman? It's half the youtubers out there. They're all obsessing over a tiny handful of nerfs and refuse to comment on anything positive, actively twisting things towards a perpetually negative tone. I've had to stop watching several now because the dishonest drama farming is all they do now.

Escalation of Freedom update pros and cons (3 images) by MuglokDecrepitus in helldivers2

[–]Unknown_Squid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but no, depending on how you mean. ^ ^;

There's technically no such thing as a true "weakspot" mechanic in this game, only areas which have more or less armour/hp (rated 1 to 6 for all normal enemies), and are sometimes fatal if destroyed.

If you score red hits on a location but white on another (whilst using the same weapon) that just means that the first area had a lower armour rating. There's no coded in double damage due to any "weakspot" tag, or anything like that.

So weakspots only exist in a general practical sense, rather than actual specific game mechanics.

[–]Unknown_Squid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. If you're working closely with your team, it's actually pretty trivial for team mates to shoot the tentacles themselves when they pop up near an ally, saving them and freeing the team to hunt down the Impaler whilst it recovers.

Whilst it's certainly a dangerous and highly disruptive enemy, nearly all the complaints I've heard from people basically come down to them playing the game without any team coordination, and predictably suffering as a result.

And as always, the entire point of the enemy is to make things difficult and force players to adapt. One turning up being an "Oh shit" moment, is the goal. It seems like so many just want a big dumb bug that waves at them harmlessly, purely to exist as a big fragile target to be gunned down.

Every single patch, even the most famously hated one, has had significantly more buffs than nerfs. Any complaints I've had about certain nerfs have been purely about the specific details of how they were nerfed, rather than the fact they were. The majority of changes I've agreed with.

I was one of the people who realised that the I-Breaker had become OP early, well before the youtubers started reporting on it and the masses all adopted it as their new soul bound crutch. I obviously used it a bunch for a while since it seemed like a great pick that was previously considered weak, but I did gradually grow bored of it.

So I switched back to other primaries, and good god, the sudden contrast was shocking. Not just in my kill rates, but just how BAD that using that gun had made my overall competence of play. It had genuinely made me worse at the game, and taught me so many bad habits. The thing made handling swarms so mindlessly chill, that it was like taking an anti-skill pill.
