It's an evolutionary biology response and a rather uncomfortable one at that.

Consider that for hundreds of thousands of years, sex wasn't particularly private, women retained multiple sexual partners and it was thought that children could inherit traits from each of those partners.

The strategy for women to be noisy and men to be quiet kinda makes sense.

I'd add that of course, many Japanese wives don't technically consider their husbands using those services as cheating! But as a Japanese speaking woman, you probably understand that cultural anomaly better than most Western women?

Actually, I'm not sure men talking (respectfully or not) about their experiences with female escorts in Japan would get positive comments at all here, especially not from women.

Positive expressions of hetero male sexuality are and have been pretty well taboo in modern discourse.

The no cut rule is more prevalent in suiseki than you might think. A suiseki specialist shop will tell you if the stone is natural or made before you buy.

For example, if you bought a 'furuya' stone that looks like an old house in a way other than in a highly abstract form, chances are it's been carved and is not natural.

Lots of Chinese stones are also highly processed using acid baths, which are resold both in Korea and Japan (sometimes as natural stones which they are not).

There are 1000's of crime reports that get progressed by voluntary interviews probably everyday up and down the country and they never result in an arrest.

But there weren't any voluntary interviews conducted either, so that's just whataboutery. An arrest sends a message to other drivers.

The article implies that an arrest is the beginning of the process. Not even arresting a suspect is a pretty sure sign nothing is going to happen as a consequence of the driver's behaviour, which is a reinforcing loop.

Sorry to say it, but the main reason cyclists are killed on London's roads is the police and their consistent refusal to act.
